Holy hell I was in a weird state of enjoying the movie itself for it's own merits and in a desperate mental search for where I felt this aura of nostalgia from because I wasn't sure if I even did see this back in the day. I was almost sure that I was mistaking this king for another one I saw in a different film by the same studio. Turns out, by the time I saw Marigold about to be turned to gold, I realized I had saw both of these! I wish I kept whatever VHS these stop motions were on because I don't have it now. I can totally understand how people might see these models as pretty creepy nowadays(I think I was sometimes chilled as a kid looking at their faces), but I am way more enthralled by how fluid and seamless the animation is. I mean, these things have hair strands and flowing clothes and interchanging faces, and don't get me started on the little stacks of coins! How much of a nightmare must it have been to change the heads on every model without wrinkling any spot of clothing or shifting hair follicles wrong or knocking over pieces of the scenery? I have now seen modern detailed CGI models on kids shows that actually have worse designs and movements than these puppets. That's utterly nuts. Makes me glad this was part of my childhood.
I love Ray Harryhausen's work...you know, in Pixar's Monsters, Inc, there's a sushi restaurant named after him. :) And at 3:41, the genie guy kinda reminds me of Megamind. :)
Could anybody please help me find the title of a stop-motion short film from the 90s? It was about a man who had to undergo eye surgery. During his recovery, his vision was not very good. There was a nurse who helped him complete his recovery, but due to his still weak vision, he perceived her as a fairy. Once he fully recovered, he could not recognize the nurse who had helped him before, but he missed the fairy he believed had helped him. At the end of the short, the man realizes that the fairy was actually the nurse, and they fall in love. There is a scene where the man walks by the park and sees a couple of lovers kissing, which makes him feel sad an lonely.
I remember watching this when i was about..3-4 years old. I had a bunch of nightmares afterwards and ever since clay-animation has freaked me out. that creepy bitch that appears in the room...yigh
I lost all my vhs movies growing up. my sister taped over them with music videos and hanson :( ...ahck...what is the name of the company that put these out on VHS? Thank you for uploading!!

I hated this movie, that demon terrified me when I was little.
how long did it take you to make this because I have tried stop animation and it takes forever to get a minute of footage!
