    The Iron Warriors were some of the best warriors within the Imperium for their sheer uncompromising nature to never break in any battle or siege, and it was the perception of machines that led to be seen as tools for mindless warfare that led them to the embrace of the Warmaster Horus side of the Heresy. In truth the Iron Warriors could have been seen as a dangerous part of the Traitors forces because they were competent and not driven to insanity by the Ruinous Powers by the time of the Siege of Terra.

      Fr even after getting backhanded by the H’rud and for the time now having some of the oldest serving Astartes on record (Dantioch and his men had aged to around 3000 years old. No marine had ever been that old as I know of) and their will to keep serving just shows that if pert had stayed loyal, Horus’ plan would’ve been shattered from Istvaan 5

      The only uncompromising and unbendable legion is the iron X. Perturabo swore to serve no matter what and then later went back on his oath because it seemed too hard or not appreciated, contrast that to the Iron hands and then you see the real uncompromising stubbornness. But yes, Iron warriors were awesome :)

      @@meeloshm9973 on top of what Warsmith Alaric said, the slaughter of Olympia is what pushed him. He finally snapped at the disgrace of being the only primarch to have his home rebel, and slaughtered them. When he came to his senses, he felt he had already betrayed, as he viewed the Emperor as perfect. To him, the Emperor could never forgive this action done out of emotion rather than reason, as the emperor himself was the perfect logical being. At least, that is my reading of his reasoning for viewing Olympia as unforgivable.

      You can see character traits and mindsets of the emperor embodied in each of his children. In Perturabo there's definitely pragmatism, inventiveness and curiosity, but I believe that before all of that there's duty. Perturabo always worked to fulfil what he saw as his duty, his oaths, to never compromise his mission. He did things no other primarch would have done because it would stain their pride or their honor simply because it fulfilled his duty most effectively or efficiently. And when all it got him was scorn, mockery, and once again deprived him of the simple joy of inventing and tinkering outside of warfare, is it any surprise he latched on to a chance to rebel?

    Man, imagine if Perty had a loving adoptive mom like Guilliman, he literally would have been the most capable military commander of the Imperium if he had remained loyal. Couple it with Bobby G's skills in organization and logistics the Iron Warriors and Ultramarines would have been a force to reckoned with.

      Bit late, but a loyal Perty would mean death for the traitor forces. Whether the Iron warriors choose to defend or go on the attack the traitors are screwed. Not only do they lose a legion on their side, but Perty was one of the few that had their shit together in the traitor forces.

    • @inwit594
      @inwit594 4 месяца назад +1

      His adoptive father wasn't THAT terrible though. While he did use Perturabo, he did on some level attempt to bond with him. Perturabo refused to bond with him because of the initial utilitarian nature of their relationship, and refused to realize that it could change into more.
      This is also why he killed Calliphone. He doesn't know what actual love is. Love is critical, but for Perturabo it had to be unconditional to be at all.

  • @HellFox83
    @HellFox83 Год назад +117

    The 4th Legion's tale is a sad one. Perhaps if they had received more recognition and appreciation for their deeds their fall could have been prevented. But their taciturn nature along with their paranoid Primarch would cement them as aloof and with their Primarch's mercurial temperament would further distance them from their brother legions. Gulliman's protest at Perturabo's decimation of his legion showed that even he respected the fourth legion. Indeed had the Iron Warriors remained loyal the traitor's rebellion would never have been able to get off the ground.
    It wasn't covered in the video but the loyalist elements within the legion took some time to be rooted out, for the Iron Warriors had many garrisons and bases across the Imperium. Loyalist Iron Warriors such as Barabas Dantioch were among the few who stood against their Primarch and the Warmaster. Sadly their fate was sealed, trapped behind now enemy lines and with no hope of relief, especially in the early days of the heresy when no one knew who was on who's side. But each of these loyalists made the traitors pay in blood for their victories as their strongholds fell...a testament to the true strength of the iron will of the fourth. They were the true Iron Warriors...their loyalty remaining strong in spite of the corrosion of bitterness.

    I've heard it said that, next to the Black Legion, the Iron Warriors are the most hated and feared of all the Traitor Legions for their sheer brutality in combat, use of corrupted technology and pragmatic, if ruthless approach to warfare.
    The 4th Legion make use of heavy artillery, fortifications, armored units and orbital bombardments to crush opposition. Rightly said to be experts in the art of military engineering, every Iron Warrior is trained to be devoid of anything approaching mercy and view casualties as utterly irrelevant as long as victory is achieved.

Isn't there a possibility he never actually ascended at all? I mean just perty, not the legion. It always felt out of character for him to become a daemon prince and accept and embrace chaos. Traitor sure, but perterabo hated chaos and thought it was weakness. I always thought it could be a lie and his armor was keeping him alive. That said if vashtor becomes a chaos God, I think perterabo would be an insanely perfect daemon prince to him because perty is an engineering savant which I'd vashtors thing. I'm sorry, but I have to step in. There is zero ambiguity about what was happening at the Iron Cage. The imperial fists were getting absolutely decimated. They lost 78% of their chapter. They were getting handily beaten by the Iron Warriors. Only the Ultramarines stepping in kept their chapter from being wiped out. They weren't at proper fighting strength for decades after that. Then what happened? The iron Warriors just left. There was no mutual destruction, there was no ambiguity. The iron warriors absolutely smashed the imperial fists.

    No it isn’t. An Iron Warriors victory was all but inevitable until Guilliman showed up. If there’s any debate to be had, it’s whether the Imperial Fists would’ve survived as a legion without his interference.

    • @adrienwatson2179
      @adrienwatson2179 Год назад +3

      Yes
      Dorn actually personally threw back several waves of Iron Warrior counter attacks that would have over run and ended the Imperial Fists.
      Even when Guilliman arrived, it wasnt a simple win
      Perturabo had void superiority (Due to his earlier ambush and victory in the void battle) and still had excellent emplacement
      It took a combined orbital bombardment and massed Ultramarine ground attack to rescue the beleaguered Imperial Fists.
      EVEN THEN
      The Iron Warriors went on to be one of the largest of the traitor legions, being able to stand against Abbadon as the Black Legions most dangerous and powerful enemy.
      So yeah, not even remotely close to a draw
      However, our friend the remembrancer probably did some reading up on thr Wiki before the video
      Hence the mistake

      They failed to break the defenses of the imperial palace and retired with peturabo when he decided to bow out. The continued dogged defense and remaining defenses of the imperial palace bought the time needed for reinforcements to approach, forcing Horus hand.
      As for the iron cage, we may never know for sure. We have multiple versions of the story. The iw version of the story says they would have won. The ultra and/or fist version basically says the fists simply wouldn't give up and that Dorns final act would be peturabos death (or that peturabo was unwilling to pay the price necessary to finish them). Maybe we will get more detail in post heresy novels?

    "The Emperor of Mankind, in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, did not necessarily prefer the Imperial Fists over the Iron Warriors; rather, he had different roles and expectations for these two Space Marine Legions.
    While the Iron warriors were highly effective in breaking enemy fortifications, their temperament and methods made them less suitable for roles requiring unwavering loyalty."
    What roles would those be?
    I am trying to find out if the Emperor did ignore them but it seems Perturabo just exaggerated the neglect and disrespect the emperor supposedly had for his IV legion?
    Was Perturabo a drama queen or his grievances were legitimate?

    • @cdev2117
      @cdev2117 Год назад

      Drama queen, if you ask me. I think his step-sister put it pretty correct during their final encounter on Olympia. Perturabo seems to love to pity himself, the most Legions fought hard campaigns during the great crusade, but the Iron Warriors always made it extra hard on them self. You have this guy who always talks about iron will and iron strenght, always avoid of emotions beside frustration and dissapointment, uses his legion like a bulldozer. Decimates his legion right after reunion, throws temper tantrums at any given chance and then wonders "Why does nobody loves me?! Why Daddy never gives me a huggy?! It's not ME it's THEM!".

But in the begining he did act as iron within and he is right his legions were used on both sides without care, they were one of the only legions that were there just as a stepping stool, countless times were the Iron warriors matched with campaigns and battles that didnt suit their style at all which resulted in catastrophic loss of life and hardware. Imagine as an example, sending in the black templars for a stealth based mission. He put up with it for too long and saw his brothers commended but not him. In the end he did break, but lets face it Iron bends. I am just hoping he didnt break fully by turning daemon.
