I’m a beginner and went out with a group. Very intimidating. Tried it by myself and people kept coming over to see. It was embarrassing. You’ve given me the inspiration to give it another try. Thanks Sam.

Hey Kelly, I totally understand, I definitely found plein air painting intimidating the first few times I did it. I did find painting in a group helpful though. I would definitely give plein air painting a try again 😊

The group I signed up with was the Cowboy Artist of America. Some of the best artist in America. Oh I wasn’t intimidated at all. I couldn’t find a hole to crawl into soon enough. Note to self, read the fine print before you sign up. I did learn a great deal and they were wonderful to help me. It was worth every minute just to watch them paint. Incredible!

One thing that intimidates me about plein air is how to organize my equipment. I use paper towels when I paint, and I'm not sure how to organize stuff so I have a good place for used paper towels, etc. I live in a windy area, don't want my trash blowing away, lol. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 that’s just too funny ,, don’t worry I’m probably one of the most mediocre painters out there producing the same old bland stuff you can see on any FB paint site . It’s not really about producing a masterpiece it’s more about the sheer enjoyment of painting from life what’s in front of you ,, if it does turn up half decent then it’s a bonus if not it’s 3 hours out in the fresh air . My tip would be to do the opposite , but with the tip Sam gives of doing one in your backyard first ,, then find a place where you are going to interact with people , you will love it garaunteed , and don’t forget all those experts giving you tips you will never see out there painting 😂😂 . Where I live on the east coast in the Uk I did my first one on the large pathway that leads down to our beach here where literally hundreds of people walk , once you’ve gone through that you won’t worry about anywhere else . I have friends still who so want to paint here there and everywhere but never do as they just spend hours driving round finding somewhere to hide up 😂😂🎨🎨 get out there you’ll love it good luck

I couldn’t ‘see’ what you were looking at to paint, so I could watch relatively to what you were doing. Made it harder to focus on what you were doing while hearing what you were saying. Confused thoughts.
Yes, I want to start Plein Air, just purchased an ‘pochade box - easel - tripod’ I have been trying to start painting since I retired. Still working at it.
Sounds terrible, if it’s something I want to do, why am I having issues getting started?
I seem to have a lot of issues to overcome.
Tried to find a group to paint with, but nothing yet, that I don’t have to pay for a instructor.
Rather Use the money for other things I still need.
Equipment should be coming some time next week, and I’ll be able to use the equipment indoors and out. I have gone out in the car and tried a few notans, and scouted around but haven’t done any paintings. I do want to make some color charts with my new paints. But haven’t done that yet either. But that is all I do, almost every day, almost all day something to read, watch, listen about art, and painting.
