Young people are leaving because life is unaffordable. Property is now unattainable for most. The massive overvaluation of NZ property seems to have benefitted some, but massively disadvantaged the young. Bad for society
The RBNZ implemented the LVR right before the property prices shot up in double percentage levels. The effect of this policy was to block working age Kiwis from buying a first home. At the same time, the government set immigration fast-track policies of minimum investments that could be allocated to residential properties. That legislated a favoritism for foreigners over young kiwis. The only way to buy and ride the wealth creation rocket 🚀 in NZ real estate was to have parents willing to stump up the 20% deposit for their children.

I’ll never understand why, that in a housing crisis that has now been going on for years, and worsening every year, that we are allowing more people into the country when we struggle to house our own.
Rich business people prefer cheaper labour to make more money. From what's been on the news they get away with alot with migrants because they dont know there rights. Kiwis would never stand for the conditions theyve been put through
It is the only way that NZ can create " growth " in the economy . Without immigrants NZ would be in a recession . NZ is actually in a " per capita " recession and has been for many years .
Finally people are having a conversation on this..... It's ridiculous to do this with a housing shortage... I know alot of school leavers struggling to get jobs...
any there are so many people coming in that can work for less. It doesn't help that uni degree means nothing these days! trades are really the only option but I have heard of many who don't enjoy it1
Am a bit sick and tired of television economists advising on what we should do. Constantly bringing in people is not a solid way to grow the economy as eventually it will turn us top heavy. Probably the biggest issue I see with immigration is the way that someone comes in to the country then over the next decade the extended family arrives, often being a long term drain on the economy, creating a viscious circle. Going back a few decades when people came to these lands they came as a family, leaving the rest of their family back home. Sometimes family memebers came to visit and decided they would like to come here, so they applied and either got approved or not. Today it seems any relation is able to come in, which is I believe not good for the country as a whole. Back before the current trends I had many friends move back to their homelands to deal with family issues, or to care for parents etc - today we seem to bring them all in. Just as bad is the way we now accept all sorts of other cultures 'traditions' such as bringing in a bride or husband from the home country. We need to stop this as more foten than not, those people do not go through the same vetting process as the original immigrant.
Face it, employers in NZ generally dont want to pay a decent living wage and resist every attempt to make them. For example, my company management awarded themselves a 6% pay rise and are delaying our pay rise negotiations as long as they can. Just gave themselves new cars too. If we get a raise, it will only be 3%. If you are young and in a trade especially head of to Australia. I came back from Sydney 6 years ago, and not a day passes that I regret this choice. I might love NZ but this love is not reciprocated.
Pause it now for the next 5-10 years so we can retain our kiwi culture. Right now it’s being lost to this invasion we’re seeing. We don’t want to be the next Ireland or Britain.
It’s a deliberate policy brought in by the globalists for all western countries to destabilise our countries. The politicians are simply puppets with the think tanks WEF etc making policies.
We are loosing teachers, nurses and other skilled people but gaining excess low skilled workers and need to look at our unemployed/jobseeker people who don't take up this low skilled jobs as there are ways to work within the benefit system to be competitive with a low skilled workers wage. Lots to address. Re. Gaza Jack is ignorant of what Europe and the US are finding with high numbers of refugees who have no intention to assimilate with the cullture of their new home.
WELL SAID .... Health Minister Shane Reti Said on the nat radio that when it comes to health best to get Medical insurance so what's our Taxs paying for; them. I guess so they can buy the houses and rent them to us.
The houses 🏘 are owned by the mps and their families. They would rather go to prison for corruption than see their real estate portfolios go down in value.
New Zealand 🇳🇿 can't even finish building the Takanini Motorway, yet we let in hundreds of thousands of extra people to put even more pressure on infrastructure. Our roads are a long-term joke. Our housing crisis is a humanitarian disaster that not only puts our poor into homelessness but also causes generational division. The argument that businesses can't get skilled labor is a convenient but weak excuse, businesses need to invest in their people, stop importing people, and start training and promoting existing staff. It was once a practice for companies to contribute to the career development of its people. Nowadays, its common for people to have to skip between companies because they will never be promoted internally, and the businesses are always looking to boot you out for some fresh face from overseas. Wages don't go up because there is an endless supply of new humans outside of New Zealand.
We need to lower the numbers coming in, be more selective on who comes in, infrastructure Housing and getting our education systems right is a must to improve peoples outcomes.

Ironic that we now recognise the need for infrastructure planning, when the NZ Planning Council was abolished 40 year's ago. The "market" was meant to guide progress in the correct direction!
@@gb10110… and perhaps a housing corp to look after and build houses, and a State Advances Corp to give reasonably priced loans enabling young kiwis to get into homes. While we’re at it, perhaps get Railways moving to get some of the large trucks off the road and have a national Telecom company, we’ll call them Chorus and an Electricity company that will train kiwi builders, sparkies etc and provide some NZ owned infrastructure at reasonable cost. Or we could instead have a few large overseas interests together with their mates in powerful places owning everything and kiwis paying the price.
Well if all those countries you mentioned, did not receive constant migrants since 2015, by today (especially with the Ukraine war), they would have had an economic collapse due to not having a workforce to support the aging population.
@@richardscanlan3419 "same culture" so basically all western europe. Guess what buddy, they already have freedom of movement between each other and the numbers are declining. If you dont want "muslim" immigrants, do something about it.
The problem with considering people from Gaza is they will not be able to assimilate properly as their culture and values are not aligned with NZ, and that's before we even consider their skills set. It should be noted that not even the Middle East countries are willing to accept them, which probably tells us everything we need to know. The focus surely has to be on immigrants who add real value to the economy and can easily assimilate into our culture.
They will come here and resent our values. They will then commit attacks on us like they did to Israel. Imagine a bunch of them attacking the next Christmas in the park or Synthony. The civilians of Gaza are the mothers who took phone calls from their sons who described their murders and the mothers responded with Allahu Akbar.
100,000 Aremenia Chrisitans need relocating, 5000 Christians were killed in Nigeria just in 2023. Why should communities that fund and support terrorism (like Gaza) get preferential refugee status over communities that attacked noone? The simple answer is that Islamic countries use oil $$ to push their view and the Christians across Africa etc don't have the same support. Meanwhile research shows that well over half of the worlds genuine refugees are Christian.
I agree with you totally, Norway, Sweden and even Germany are not accepting any more refugees because they failed to integrate and are demanding and now these adopted countries are sending them back. Crimes have went up and the man loiter around schools and attack females students. The door of a country need to be open to only ppl who can assimilate to NZ culture, have education, willing to work and have the skillsets we need. I am sorry but I do not want any ppl from Gaza to be on NZ soil. No!
When you say we lost a record number of New Zealanders, fine they are New Zealanders - all good, BUT second level stats we need are how many of those leaving were born in NZ compared to migrated here, got NZ citizenship and then leave. Doesn't make much difference, but would be interesting to know. We should make sure all these immigrants are not just coming here to get a NZ passport. Secondly, New Zealand infrastructure is overloaded already and literally can not handle the current population, so why bring more people in? Sounds like govt (Labour and National) are just trying to import money?
@@lindachandler2247 Yep, we invest and then Australia takes because they have lower cost of living and higher wages. Until we fix that here, it's a revolving door with NZ as nursery for the world. Unsustainable.
The main concern here is why people are leaving regardless of their citizenship. No matter how nationalistic a citizen is, if you have this constant economic crisis, no one would like to stay. Not especially if you have neighbouring countries which offer them better.
Yes, also glad to hear they will not be making cuts to frontline immigration officers. These Officers have questioned the speed of vetting especially security checks. Also need to enforce people who over stay visa to leave.
As someone who made New Zealand home over the course of the past 7 years, I agree - as someone who as gone through the immigration and residency/citizenship process, i agree with the stance on skilled vs unskilled workers. Some of us worked hard and built careers and EARNED the nations permission to stay. But when labour granted residence to everyone regardless of what skills they were bringing in, that was a slap in the face for a lot of us.
How is the building industry going to survive without foreign labor? Why did I meet a Turkish Civil Engineer that came in on a skilled work visa, working at Dominos?
True, I am a NZ citizen for 2 decades now and never ask for benefits since I migrated here. Unfortunately, some locals do not want to work as labourer. I guess it is now time to move to Aussie
We are fleeing because of the low wage landlord economy and unaffordable housing. Migrant labour facilitates this, and the coalition are happy with this. We now have slave labour and migrant scams, slumlords etc etc. Great look NZ
For young people, the only viable option is to leave forever really. The OE is a thing of the past. Move before it is too late. There's no future for them here. Housing is an impossible mess. They will never salvage that situation. Health care, dental care and education is underfunded, overly expensive and getting worse. Rising costs, high inflation. Get out while you are young. You cannot afford a family here.
@sandraobrien8705 What I say to young people I meet. Australia is far more welcoming, and kinder, than NZ. I wasn't young when I made the move, almost 50. Took a couple of months before I found my feet. Did very well, bought a home within a couple of years etc. Decide to come back when Labour said they were going to be 'transformational'. Regret it every day. Too old and late now.
@@sandraobrien8705 The problem is really where to move to? It's just as bad in Australia, Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland and pretty much every other Western country. The cost of shelter (not housing because who can afford to buy these days?) has become astronomical. I am in Australia on a good salary and sharing a flat and can't get a unit of my own not because I can't pay the rent but because there's nothing available. I hate to say it, but leaving NZ you're not likely going to find things much better elsewhere.
When is NZ's population going to be the right size? We were at our highest ranking in the OECD when our pop. was under 3.5 million. It's not population size that matters in increasing productivity, it's per capita gdp. Our current pop. gives the enviable situation of being capable of having a large renewable energy base, which will give us a huge economic advantage. Flood the country with people, and you erode this per capita energy advantage.
Exactly. Everything has gone backwards with immigration population increases. There's such a thing as dis-economies of scale - due to excess complexity inefficiencies. Bigger is not necessarily better - ask over endowed blokes or girls.
This mass Migration has a directly negative effect on our housing affordability, It raises demand and with a low supply this pushes up Kiwis rents every single year at record levels, house ownership is publicly pronounced as unattainable and never to be in reach of the next generation of middle class kiwis. Roads are disgustingly backed up with traffic. This has been unsustainable for the last 10 years. This subject alone makes me very frustrated because people seem to want to completly ignore the very serious negative ramifications of this number of foreign people living in the country so suddenly. I see now why no one has any children, how could anyone possibly feel the need when there are hundreds of thousands of new people arriving in the country every year, who use the roads, licenseing offices, GPs and hospitals, many with children who use the day cares and schools. I won't mention any cultural issues with mass migration in fear of being labled anything by the brigade. Only by taking advantage of the very good nature of New Zealanders is this allowed to happen, this honestly feels llike an assault on the kiwi way of life. It only serves the few very very wealthy corporations and the government through the production of instant GDP increases.
Immigration is not having a negative impact on housing and she even said it. immigration is 1000% needed. The issue around housing is hands down farmers not selling land and councils taking to much time to approve housing construction.
We need probably about 20,000 per year, but we have 150,000 per year, the minister said that is unsustainable, and the journalist said as you obviously missed it that Immigration creates a 5% annual increase to rental and housing prices in NZ. Why do people who are pro mass immigration have zero explanation why mass immigration is a good thing, you just say its "1000%" necessary and another person said "we have not reached our immigration limit" like he knows the limit from his ivory auckland tower, untill i am convinced otherwise i presume you or those close to you are very privlidged and do not feel the immidiate affect of mass immigration like us common Kiwis, you may own homes so the housing crisis is actually to your benifit or maybe your part of a large corperation which employs many immigrants who accept lower wages than the average Kiwi. Theres no wonder why so many people are pro mass immigration, it doesn't surprise me at all. @@AustonD
In fact, the rise in immigration can result in more advantages than disadvantages. It is important to acknowledge that many New Zealanders are choosing to leave the country. When they do so, they take their jobs with them, leaving job vacancies here. If not for immigrants, who will fill these positions? It is unrealistic to expect New Zealanders to remain in the country when Australia offers higher pay and a lower cost of living, making it an appealing choice for relocation. The traffic congestion we are experiencing is not solely attributable to immigration. With or without the increasing number of immigrants, we were bound to face this issue eventually. As economic growth necessitates more workers and residential spaces, it also contributes to the increase in housing prices. The government's role should be focused on improving our infrastructure, such as enhancing road networks to address traffic congestion and increasing housing supply to meet the demand.😊😊
1. It is a fact Immigrants can have a positive benefit but not necessarily. In New Zealand’s case it is negative, and the issue is the number of immigrants. How do you expect the roads not to be extremely busy when we have hundreds of thousands of immigrants arrive every year using our roads? Immigration is the number one contributor to adult population growth and the number one contributor to more cars on the road every year, thus the main contributor to rising congestion on our roads. 2. There is a cultural shift away from raising families in New Zealand, that is the main reason for job vacancies and I believe it is a sign of a very serious underlining problem being swept under the rug. So much attention is given to minority issues, special interest groups, global organisations and the new incoming population while in the meantime the mental, financial and spiritual wellbeing of the Majority of Kiwis has been ignored by Government and Media. 3. How do we pay for more infrastructure? NZ is going broke and we are in serious debt. It seems to me the only reason we need more infrastructure and housing is to accommodate the incoming hundreds of thousands of Immigrants. We need to look after ourselves. @akbarmuhsin5257
i think we've lost a lot of our country already, through the lose of land businesses homes and jobs. A country must put its own civilians first. Do what we can to help beyond that THATS THEIR JOB We pay them through our taxes Our children must come first Im all for helping people lets start with our own
Maybe not quite lost yet, but certainly on the way. The years to come will make that opinion obvious. Many "kiwi" Aucklanders are leaving- some to other areas of NZ, some to other countries. Apartment (UGLY) buildings are popping up all over the place. Hong Kong style, these will become the future homes of the immigrants. I simply can't vote for any polly who thinks that's the way forward for NZ. It's shameful.
We need, like Erica said, very specific immigration targeting areas we are short in such as nurses and doctors, but also to re-start state housing. That should never have stopped. NZ had good housing prior to that being dumped.
I met several doctors who were told by Immigration officers not to keep their hopes up even if they took the exam because they might not get a job. It's on purpose. They were working in entry level admin jobs. The nerve of saying there was a big influx of "unskilled" migrants. She looks unskilled to me, tbh.
This is a typical politician, who shouts and opposes the government when they are in opposition, but after being elected, they end up saying the same things as the previous government.
I got here 27 years ago. It was very hard to get permission to stay, even as a qualified engineer. Nowadays, every Tom Dick and Harry are just walking in and get all the support they need. There is the problem….
every other country is doing this i cant go buy land and get involved many other countries politics including some who are complaining about this we are a small country and i do think we need to have tighter screening i think its worth considering
I went looking for a house to rent in Auckland Northshore. The rent was $700 for a small 3 bed house in a flood prone street. 30 families turned up to look at it. All were DESPERATE for a house, as myself. I have never in my rental experience seen this before. Breaks my heart that so many of us New Zealanders who are working our guts out to afford just the bare basics to survive are being left to fall further down the ladder due to an influx of migrants. I understand we need specialized migrants but we also need to look after our own first and get our country back in a stronger position. I think a stronger position on specialized migration needs to happen before we even contemplate offering visas to war torn countries. It is up to their leaders and their Governments to fix their countries issues and create a solution that works for both sides. Their are so many countries at war and opening our borders up even more to allow more in will only turn us into Ireland, Germany etc where the citizens of those countries have had enough of mass migration flowing into their countries. Our country is not the world's Emergency Housing Shelter.
It's already happened - at least 20% of NZers weren't born here. You are obviously ignorant re. Palestine - they have been occupied by Israel for 75 years (Gaza has been blockaded for 16 years - no autonimy/control) and they are being gen0cyded but hey, it's completely OK if you do know and are simply devoid of humanity/completely lacking compassion ...
This immigration minister speaks well and one of the few coalition ministers that doesn’t do my head in by talking in circles with no answers. Well done to both. Super easy to understand and interesting to hear.
A simple low cost low admin solution would be to restrict visas from say the top 5 nations contributing most to the high number of people coming into the country. Letting in over 200,000 people is completely unacceptable when we have a 50,000 house shortage, and inflation over 4%.
Not everyone has mass migration..try to migrate to Malaysia or Asian...thier policy if you can't support yourself or your criminal or bad character don't come...very fair...nz destroying itself from within..
Almost all the politicians do not want to reduce immigration figures because it is a cheap and easy way of keeping growth numbers up. The idea of constant economic ‘growth’ is very palatable to certain sections of the public, especially the economic elite who do not have to compete for jobs or accommodation. With regard to illegal immigration there is little willpower to address the issue with any real force and nobody wants to appear ‘racist’. This effectively means that our society has increasingly little real control of our borders. Our immigration policy is being determined by the aspirations and desires of folk from the “developing countries”.
Jake, we don’t need people that aren’t going to contribute to New Zealand’s productivity. We need to support citizens in need before opening the gates to those that cannot support our country. This is where the need for immigration comes from, refreshing to hear Erica support this grateful for the new government.
The first thing that needs to be taught in schools is financial literacy. Base all reading, writing and math around finance and poeple will be better off. Learn how to make money work for you. Know what the difference between good debt and bad debt is. Debt is essentially not a bad position to be in provided it falls under the good debt scenario. No debt is obviously the best position to be in. Another key element to success is work ethic. Developing a solid work ethic will open up other doorways for you. We have a mentality in NZ that the government will provide. At the end of the day school was created to teach people how to live in a society.
Next time ask her why we can't recruit Doctors etc. Why does Papamoa ( one of NZs fastest growing areas) now has to close one of its clinics due to being unable to recruit and hold onto doctors!
Only for wealthy people in the asset class who seek to gain really and already own property or incentives for it to ramp up. So No depending on who you are, and Yes depending on who you are. Depends also on quality of immigration! Do we want to import a lower standard of living for all with greater strain on resources at the cost of local amenity, land supply etc? There needs to be restrictions, regulations, and quality assurance to make sure we aren't driving the standard downward.
alot of new zealand born people lost there jobs to these skilled migrants.that were not skilled.. now struggling to find work because of this. look after us first..
Basically too many immigrants = more poverty, crime and homelessness in NZ. Poland has bucked the pre-imposed immigration trend and doing well in almost every measurable aspect, rather than the opposite downfalls almost everywere else !! Seems the "major" overpopulated countries are sadly dumping the affects of their various problems onto many other countries, including NZ...
How to keep your property portfolio artificially high. Why wouldn't the largest generation with the most accumulated wealth in real-estate heading into retirement try to keep their investments topped up for another couple years.
💯 on point. This is why younger generations must be as selfish as the Boomers have been. We have been contributing to Kiwisaver, boomers didn't. Boomers have taken from the generation before and after themselves at every vote 🗳 they've had in their lives. The only suitable response is for us to vote to end Superannuation entitlements and give ourselves a tax cut.
Quite interesting to hear the banter over healthcare. As an Aussie with a family in NZ the healthcare system sucks, especially if you have recently moved. It is curious to hear these people talk about these issues like they are separate and don't feed into the brain drain over the Tasman. You can keep saying Kiwis first, but you are loosing your best and brightest across the channel, because these issues cant be met. The only way to plug the hole is to get these issues met. Healthcare and skilled labor are sectors that seriously suffer from this problem and realistically the only way out of it is understanding the needs of those industries and investing heavily into training. Ireland has done it and while without its issues, at least has attempted to solve the issue.
At last we are getting somewhere! But many people have left NZ and why do we need immigrants when there are not many jobs, houses and those that live here don’t get treated well,or their needs met from politicians in the past! Let’s cut back on politicians, many jobs have been created but not necessary in government, too many on the gravy train! Thank you for new vision and immigrants need to be screened and not bring their issues here but their talents! Our infrastructure is run down,so why not fix the systems before adding to tax payers burdens with immigrants?
We already don’t have enough housing here in NZ to deal with more people amongst many other issues. Increasing migrant numbers in large quantities is not wise. There are no shortages of examples around the world where large scale migration has not worked out well. There has always been a slow controlled process allowing new migrants to assimilate into their new countries, this is now not being followed and to me results have not been good. The migration we do allow should be high skill individuals.
I have many friends who are immigrants first and second generation. But ive also worked in a low skill call center who sponosor visas under the labour govt. These call center jobs are literally perfect for young kiwis entering the wkrk force but sadly these jobs go to the patels who are happy to work for a lower wage.
Im so sick of calling places and getting an indian on the phone. Its so hard to understand their accents and its like they dont even bother to try speak clearer
The integration theory is bs. There are clear divides in asia between different kinds of Asians to this days. I guess nz is pretty multienthic, but it becomes a lot less so when they're all identical looking copy paste Indian men. Ain't no one coming to NZ to see that.
High migration is bad.... The more resources used on new migrants the less for locals. Look at Englands state they are over run NZs in the cross hairs for immigrants. I recommend a questionaire where migrants MUST speak english, MUST have skills,MUST integrate into NZ society
Allowing significant immigration provides an Economic boost for statistics that Governments use to promote themselves. It also creates havoc for health systems and rental/housing markets. Landlords will benefit with new people needing accommodation, many others will suffer, including NZ citizens on hospital waiting lists.
It's all well and dandy for those who are allowed to settle here to slowly but surely change the land's culture whilst they are able to go back to their country of origin and find its culture intact
I agree with you but "denser" housing means more houses that are not suitable to raise children in, if kiwis ever want to start having decent sized familys again which would eventually solve the immigration issue we need to build more family homes. At this rate of immigration we really do need to build as much infrastructure as dunedin if we intend on maintaining our living standards and way of life.@@HenrythePaleoGuy
@@Westmansouth @Mikhail-lh4el Not at all the case. Denser as in housing that is more concentrated in given city and town limits with better access to facilities that you don't get with current planning and sprawl. People are less willing to have big families or at all because of economic factors, and much of that is the fault of our capitalist organisation. Less time and money to put towards such things. Immigration is beneficial to NZ and all other countries, and there is of course a limit, but we have not reached ours, and said limit can be increased, especially if we have some meaningful change in how we treat housing in New Zealand. Dunedin is super spread out and has very few high-rises compared to other places in New Zealand. A comparable pop. does not mean that the level of land we'd need would be the same at all.
You are entirely wrong, people are not just having no children because of economic factors and your rediculous claim of capitalism is totally irelevant, many capatalist countries still affords cheap housing, it is much more complicated and nuanced than that. We only need immigrants because we are not having children and there is a shrinking work force. Have children and we can completly stop almost all immigration as it is totally unneccesary at that point, this would finally allow Kiwi culture to thrive again and breath a little, instead of this grey march toward a globalised city dwelling society the utopians like you so hope for.@@HenrythePaleoGuy
You are entirely wrong, people are not just having no children because of economic factors and your rediculous claim that capitalism is the cause is laughable, capitalism has allowed for the highest living standards nations have ever seen in history. The reasons why Kiwis are not having children are much more complex and nuanced than that. We only have very high (mass) immigration because our population is shrinking, its only shrinking because we are having fewer children. I see two futures, one where New Zealands economy is steadyly growing like it was in the 70s with our old trade routs re-established with old trade partners such as france, england, america and canada, Wages are going up costs of living are going down and is happyly growing at a stable rate of births with a strong sense on national identity and low needs for immigration. Or a future where the economy is unpredicable, turbulant and depentant on immigrants and GDP growth while ignoring GDP per capita, this will leave no affordable houses for Kiwis to start medium sized familys in due to the excessive ongoing increase in demand for rentals and home ownership. The real question is whos country is this really? and who do we want to be calling a fellow Kiwi? Politicians will gas light that there is even an issue at all. I believe we should at least get to choose and not just have the negative side effects of immigration on the economy and housing market jammed roughly down our throats@@HenrythePaleoGuy
More houses to house the immigrant house builders. More security people that are trained to imitate statues. More taxi , bus , van and truck drivers. And many , many more people who don't appreciate or assimilate into our culture .

Handled the last gotcha question very well. If Mr Tame has too much money slashing around, he is very welcome to sponsor some disabled migrants to come to the country and pay for their hospital bills. We are talking about work visas and not humanitarian visas here. But I somehow have a feeling that he prefers other people to pay the bill for his 'values'.
We have heaps of level 4 caregivers who are international licensed or registered but they don't have d license yet here in NZ, maybe we could assist them to be trained and have easier way to be registered and signed a contract if given the opportunity to be PR they should nt leave NZ for a span of 10yrs so that we'll nt have nurse shortages.
The short answer is no, it isn't good. If this conversation was in 1980, kiwi's wouldve been all for doubling the population. However, the reality some 40 years later is very different from what was promised. Higher population density doesn’t equate to better living standards or economics. No forward planning, too much of our resources spent trying to assist a certain ethnic minority including the Pacific. Virtually no use of our minerals resources. Too much reliance on overseas imports of fuel and grocery and labour expertise. Economic policies from Think big, User pays, Deregulation, Rogernomics have systematically crippled the nation by failing to deliver any benefits. Constant recession and recovery fuel labour migration to Australia. NZ will be very soon the Venezuela or the South Africa of the Pacific, in my view.
This is a staging post for indian nurses to get family passports and go to australia if they wish. NZs welfare system: free education free health, dental, working for families benefit is like a nest for foreigners. However if we didnt have them we'd close nz hospitals
And leave NZ with student loans I’m a nurse and can count 4 that skipped NZ never to return from Africa and India after becoming NZ citizens. Then go Oz work as nurses become an Aussie, done paid for by NZ. They all know the process
Lots of indians and asain coming in all the kiwis heading out 47000 kiwi alone last year crossed yhe ditch....its greener on the Aussie side due to wages and opportunities its that simple.

New Zealand should provide more scope to receive Ukrainian immigrants. They are European, well educated and share similar culture. Much better for NZ than more Asians and Muslims.
They will never bring white European specially non English speaker ,because they are too smart and they will be challenge them and it is about privallage, they only bring asain from filipin and Indian..cos those people obedient and less trouble. They dnt bring african/Russian,and moslems
Employers need to invest in New Zealanders to upskill. Everyone is looking for the cheaper option getting Teachers and other skilled workers from overseas. I spent $30k plus getting Qualifications in Hospitality and Double Diploma in Business and Management yet I am doing a semi-skilled job for the same money and less stress. Employers don't want to pay or give you the opportunity to get practical experience with Qualifications attained. Needs to be looked at. My life is in limbo, unable to capitalise on qualifications attained. Been turning lemons in to lemonade!
The problem is that the majority of the migrants who entered do not have professional qualifications. Just because they are painters, construction workers and other jobs that Kiwis can do. But before I didn't do it, but today there are many who work, due to the economic need of the country. You can go to the south of Auckland and most of the children of immigrants don't study and do bad things. Now WINZ need give money.
Well,You say that, but if Kiwis were up for work then you wouldn’t need immigrants. Is that not right ? By looking at the majority of other countries, immigrants mostly do jobs locals dont want to do.
also most that do enter have qualifications for that country so for example i know this sri lankan who is a teacher and came to nz with 15 years of teaching but teaching nz and sri lanka are very differnt and the accent also makes it diffcultt im not tryna be rascit but she teaches like 3 -6 and hearing a very diff accent can make thing diffcult for them and immgration nz is dumb and dosnt think about these typa things even like white countries with very diff accents would be diffcult like russia or smthn

Roads are disgustingly backed up with traffic. This has been unsustainable for the last 10 years. This subject alone makes me very frustrated because people seem to want to completly ignore the very serious negative ramifications of this number of foreign people living in the country so suddenly.

We are just lucky it's so hard to sail a boat here or we would be in the same mess as most of the "western" world.😂
Jake, we don’t need people that aren’t going to contribute to New Zealand’s productivity. We need to support citizens in need before opening the gates to those that cannot support our country. This is where the need for immigration comes from, refreshing to hear Erica support this grateful for the new government.
I wish you lived in Gaza...
House prices, determined mainly by land supply and 126,000 immigrants is not a prime driver.....WTF

Yes we are getting somewhere with a lot of talk with no plans.
Immigrants are the only way that NZ can create " growth " in the economy . Without immigration NZ would be in recession .
WE DON'T HAVE THE HOUSES!!! 104,000 HOMELESS MEN IN NEW ZEALAND AND WE KEEP LETTING THESE PEOPLE IN FFS
Eric is on the right track could interview. I’m glad that she’s in the position she’s in, better result than we’ve seen from labour.
Interesting interview. She’s good.
Allowing significant immigration provides an Economic boost for statistics that Governments use to promote themselves. It also creates havoc for health systems and rental/housing markets. Landlords will benefit with new people needing accommodation, many others will suffer, including NZ citizens on hospital waiting lists.
Erica I think you’ve said it so well “putting the people of NZ first”.
It's all well and dandy for those who are allowed to settle here to slowly but surely change the land's culture whilst they are able to go back to their country of origin and find its culture intact
We need to build a whole city of Dunedin every year at this rate...
Nope. We need more dense housing, and its something the coalition aren't very much in favour off. This issue will never be resolved by these people.
Where are people going to live?
More houses to house the immigrant house builders.
More security people that are trained to imitate statues.

What's driving house prices is the greed licking its horrible lips.
I feel for those paying rent. Immigration favours landlords. Rent hikes on the way.

NZ employers do not work like that.
