Turning off some lightbulbs doesn't lower the demand on the grid enough to shut down power generators. UK grid operators found that the spike of turning an electrical appliance ON causes more gas-powered generators to be activated for a little while. So congrats, instead of doing good, you caused more harm.

They were emitting so much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and once the lights come back on, the energy required is going t ruse EXTREMELY quickly therefore more generators will need to turn on RELEASING EVEN MORE CO2 INTO THE ATMOSPHERE bruh people have no brain honestly.

DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN EARTH HOUR IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT!!!! .Earth hour is bad for the environment. It puts a lot of stress on the electrical utility system for no electricity to be there and then suddenly back to normal loads all at once. What do you think happens to the electrical system when there was no energy consumption and then there was a shit load surge of energy consumption
