    Brimstone is one of those relics that are almost always the wrong choice for my deck, but i always pick because it's so much fun.

      Had a run recently where I had one the run by act 2. Took no damage in any fight. Until act 4 shop where I bought brimstone and immediately died to the elites

      I know the feeling! It can get tedious building "normal" winning decks so you want to mix things up a bit. Prismatic Shard has a similar effect on me.

    I have typically avoided brimstone due to dying with it every time I took it before. I kept trying to defend instead of scaling and attacking. Might have to give it another shot if I see it.

    Brimstone felt amazing the only time I got it, but I also had 4 disarm by the time I got to heart so I might be over valuing it by a *tiny* bit😅

    I was thinking that if you don't know what's on top of your deck (say you played Havoc), there are at least 10 cards left in the deck, and one of those cards is only at 1 copy left in the deck, why would you want to topdeck? Sure Havoc + is essentially "play 1 random card for free" if you don't have to shuffle and even after shuffling a case can be made it can be a good deal if it hits what you want. Of course if there are 10 cards left in the deck and one of them is at one copy, regardless of if that one card is one you want to hit or one you don't, your odds of hitting the exact right card is low. Mayhem is even worse since it is harder to setup than Havoc+. I'm amazed this work. I'd like to see someone get it early in Act 2 or even earlier in ascension 15 or higher and still pull off a win on random seed.

    • @jamismiscreant7514
      @jamismiscreant7514 Год назад +5

      Mayhem has a few use cases Mayhem+ is extra output for no extra energy and if you have a high concentration of expensive cards is also pseudo energy generation, it also exhausts so it can facilitate infinites and scales very favorably with ironclads card pool. All in all it’s still mediocre particularly when unupgraded but has real use cases.
      Mayhem is bad but is occasionally useful if you need raw output and you don’t have many cards like fiend fire

    • @treycko1377
      @treycko1377 Год назад

      I suppose you wouldn't, it really depends on whether you'd rather those ten cards be played sooner and for less energy then anything else.
      For instance, putting dark embrace or even something like predator in play sooner can boost your card draw for later turns.
      All just depends, I suppose

    • @jamjalopie9286
      @jamjalopie9286 Год назад

      Normally the question isn't "what cards do I want to play", but "what cards must not be exhausted" (feed, fiend fire, burning pact, depends on your deck). If your draw pile is large, it's usually fine, if it's small, the card you care about is probably not in the draw pile. Of course, if it is, then havoc is a dead card. And why not just draw and play a card rather than delay drawing it and not be sure what you're playing?
      It's not the best card. But it's great for exhausting cards and playing expensive cards, both of which are good for ironclad

    • @alex_zetsu
      @alex_zetsu Год назад

      @@jamjalopie9286I agree it is good for exhausting and playing expensive cards. But even if you don't mind anything on the deck being exhausted (or the deck is so big you'll either lose or win before the reshuffle), the card on the top might not be the one you want. For example you are in a hallway fight with multiple enemies and there is one that's about to attack and your perfected strike or bludgeon will take care of this. And you have enough block to survive the attacks from the others. You got Feel no Pain up and are down to 4 cards at the end of your turn and have no energy, so only Havoc + is playable. You play Havoc+ and instead of hitting those the two attacks that let you eliminate the enemy, you hit your Barricade, Flame Barrier, your Inflame+, your Infernal Blade, or your Strike. You didn't exhaust anything critical, but was leaving Havoc+ last the right call or should you have played it earlier? Even if you should have played it earlier, would you have known at the beginning of your turn the best time to play it? I don't know how to answer these questions.

    • @jamjalopie9286
      @jamjalopie9286 Год назад

      @@alex_zetsu I mean, in the scenario you describe, you got 3 block regardless for no energy cost right? With a chance to deal with the fight with one card, which you would not have had the energy to play (or would have had to make a different choice earlier in the turn).
      Maybe its easier to think of it in terms of drawing? Technically you don't draw the card before playing it, but since its the top card of your deck you can think of it in the same way. Draw order is a key source of randomness in this game - you make decisions in building your deck and drawing/playing your cards according to guesses about which cards are on top of the deck. When you play pommel strike, you are making a decision that the card it draws is one you want to have in your hand - but it could be a card you can't play, or a card you want to play next turn, or just not that extra bit of damage you need. Havoc is just an extension of that, where you play the card as well as drawing it, which is what makes it unique and interesting.
      The main catch is that you (usually) don't know what it'll play. Generally, a good way to offset that randomness is to play it earlier in a turn, so that you can use the rest of your energy to balance what gets randomly chosen. But it'll depend - maybe you want to apply vulnerable if an attack is likely, or use headbutt/warcry to decide exactly what to play, or gain strength in case reaper gets played. Overall the decision on whether to play havoc is similar to deciding whether or not to draw in the first place.
      Its not an incredible card overall - but I do feel like it gets a bad rap. It has a role to play.

    I don’t understand not thinking heavy blade is good with brimstone, upgraded it increases by 10 damage each turn, how it that not a good card?

    • @layla_solomon
      @layla_solomon Год назад +7

      It costs 2 and all it does is damage. It doesn't scale as well as sword boomerang with strength per energy. And he clearly thought it was at least ok, because he took it.

    • @toiryelhsa
      @toiryelhsa Год назад

      @@layla_solomon correct me if I am wrong, but unupgraded are both the same? 1str = 3dmg?
      Both upgraded - heavy blade gives 5dmg per 1str, so better than boomerang (4dmg per 1 str).
      (Boomerang still better for 1 energy, though).

    • @bob-hp1lr
      @bob-hp1lr Год назад +11

      @@toiryelhsaThe real thing that matters when comparing the two isn't damage per strength, it's damage per energy. He didn't have any broken stuff going to get him lots of energy, so most turns were limited to 3-5 energy. Add on the fact that he wanted to spend some energy blocking, some playing burning pacts, and some playing bash/uppercut -> there was very little energy left for strictly damage cards.
      Looking at it a different way, let's compare heavy blade to sword boomerang + strike (since you'll usually be able to strike with the extra energy - or do something much better)
      Un-upgraded, Heavy blade = 14 + 3*strength, Boomerang+strike = 15 + 3*strength
      Upgraded, Heavy blade+ = 14 + 5*strength, Boomerang++strike = 18 + 5*strength
      In both cases, just playing an unupgraded strike with the extra energy makes boomerang better, and generally you'll have something much better than an unupgraded strike to spend your extra energy on.

    • @toiryelhsa
      @toiryelhsa Год назад

      @@bob-hp1lr ah, you are absolutely right! I should have added another attack (or utility card) for the energy saved by playing 'rang over blade. Thanks for clarification:)

    • @Bird-of-prey
      @Bird-of-prey Год назад +2

      @@bob-hp1lr Boomerang + strike would be 4*strength (3x for the boomerang + 1x for the strike). The only other thing to take into account is boomerang can be randomly distributed if there are multiple enemies.
