Good list of pros & cons I totally agree with! Note: cutscenes will come with 1.0. It was mentioned on a dev stream recently. I would personally not expect Diablo 4-level cutscenes, but what's there can indeed be improved a bit on the story telling side, as the world, lore and story is pretty cool!
Yet again another game that Peon reviewed that i ended up loving. First was Guild Wars 2 back in 2015 ish, and i played it ever since. When he reviewed this game back in 2021 it made me want to try it and now its even better. Peon's got taste is what im saying.

It's basically already there dude. It's 0.9 at the moment, and their update cycles have been consistent enough for an end of year 1.0 release. Might as well take a stab.
You don't have to finish the campaign to start doing the endgame content, you can get started on monoliths pretty early on, you should absolutely give them a go :)
Last Epoch is great. I do not remember last time i’ve had this much fun. LE combines elements from diablo, poe, wow into 1 single arpg. It is absolutely worth the money and its not even fully released yet. Give it another year or two and its gonna be huuuge.
I just played through this and I too loved it. You are right that it doesn't do a great job explaining crafting in game, which is a shame because I think it's truly the best gearing/crafting system in any ARPG. I also think this would be partially remedied by a more guided tutorial of the Loot Filter system. It's extremely robust, you can even make rules early on that only apply per level, for example "Hide normal and rare items after level 20" or something like that. You can also hide anything that doesn't apply to your class, you can tell it to only show you dropped items that have at least two or more affixes you want, etc. I always felt like when I had a full bag of gear that I actually needed to look at EVERYTHING to see if it would either be an upgrade, craft into an upgrade, or be worth shattering to keep the relevant shards. I watched videos about it before playing so I had a leg up, but if a good tutorial for this stuff was IN-GAME it'd put this game into the stratosphere. It's a must for them in 1.0 I think. As it stands though, I started another character just so I could keep playing. I think they've said their endgame isn't 100% fleshed out in game yet so I don't want to grind it too much, but I just want to keep playing because it's so fun. Glad you liked it so much! I think PoE and D4 can learn a lot from what LE is doing.
Although the game doesn't explain crafting very well I just looked up a video on it and it was relatively quick while a poe crafting video would be like 5 hours long lmao
theres like 9 different floors of these things called echos that have 3 different big bosses you gotta defeat before you can move onto the next one and once you full clear them all they all scale up to level 100 because you should be 90+ by this point and thats when you really can start grinding out really good gear for builds because you can get some build changing unique's in the high level echos
I have 100 hours in the beta still and it's so good. I do wish they had customization for characters but that's about it. You gotta do an updated video with the end game monolith system Peon pleaseee
FYI, the multiplayer release weekend actually didn't have a real queue. They had enough servers available, physical servers, to handle everyone who wanted to get in at once. They had cloud services ready to go in case those get used up. However, they had an issue with the service that was used to let people into the game, which kept throwing them into phantom queues that would never get smaller, even though there was plenty of room on the other end. People found out how to get around this by using a VPN, changing your location (my buddy set his to Japan), and then once you could get connected to create an online character, you were golden and could turn off the VPN and restart the game. They tried to fix it for a couple days and were making incremental improvements, but eventually decided they'd just turn the whole damn queue system off entirely since there weren't enough people anymore to bother with it, at least until they could fix it.
Yes Last Epoch, im glad you liked it, my favourite arpg. In regards to the drops, whilst it is hard to get something really good, i must say getting upgrades is fairly easy as you just craft things whilst you level. But maybe if it was explained it would be more approachable
The synergies between skilling abilities, passive tree and gear crafting make this game stand out as an indie gem. The endgame monolith and legendary crafting system is really, really good. And the game isn't even done yet. Big thumbs up to the devs, for the great work they have put in on this one. Has provided me many an hour of enjoyment.
I'm so happy the game is gettin the love it deserves, I had a very enjoyable experience, similar to yours. And I'm very exited to play the game on full release!
One thing missed in the positives (which would have helped with our crafting questions) is the in game guide (pressing G). It explains 99% of the game and will answer almost any question you have.
im about 100 hours in and still havent got a char max level, i keep getting to end game, find a piece of gear for a different class and then spend 20 hours leveling that class...i love it.
this is easily the best ARPG since D2. its addictive but doesn't feel like its wasting your time. no p2w. only a box price. lots of new and fun things to build. i just broke 250 hrs and expect I'm only 1/10th of the way through the content and classes and builds available now. Nevermind what they continue to release.
Bought this game last night and you made a video about it today lmao. I am adoring this game and I only got to level 15 before I had to head to bed before work. I have been thinking about it all day and will be playing tonight!
SOOO glad to see LE getting attention from big named CCs. It's SOOO freakin good and a lot of people were sleepin on it. (also; there are TONS of Filters you can find out there in the wild. They come in ez to use XLM format and are SUPER worth. You can find them for each Class and even some for Sub-Classes)
11:00 that point is so spot on... I am a Diablo fan since I got a CD with a demo for d1 in a magazine. I remember you could only progress through the first two cathedral levels, but man, did I grind those two levels... the game blew my mind. After all these years I can't express how hyped I was for d4, but after just a couple of hours playing I already sensed something was off. I know d4 has many flaws, but for me it primarily comes down to one thing: the loot. There's something about gear progression that feels dull and boring. As you're constantly swapping out equipment, you never get attached to any item throughout your leveling process and most importantly you never truly experience that power spike loop where the new item you find makes you feel like a god for a couple levels, only to gradually decline until you crave for the next upgrade. Never felt that in my 1-75 jouney. Also level scaling, bad crafting and boring stats make this feeling even worse. Now d4 led me to try PoE (which I had somehow completely overlooked all these years) and every new thing I discover over there makes me realize how lazy and soulles the D4 design is.
i was literately on steam and just to put in the search bar about this game hoping LazyPeon made a video and then refreshed and boom there it is. i think its meant to be
This game is the first time I've had that (good) addiction feeling of "just a little longer" in a very long time. It's fun from the start, and just keeps getting more fun. I love the way I can create my own builds and easily respec when I make mistakes/learn more.
I just had a similar experience. I backed it on KS several years ago and have tried it a couple times years ago. Played the D4 beta, it was ok, but I'm not buying the game. Figured I'd give LE a go with the 0.90 update, and am having a blast. It's much better than whenever I had played it last. Might actually be more fun than Grim Dawn now and be my 2nd favorite ARPG after PoE. They're on the right path! They need to make crafting shards auto pickup, but I like the skill trees, and the gameplay is super fun. I made a necromancer and am loving it. I want to try out a melee build, but having so much fun with necro, so sticking with that for now.
This game is developed by two people, with limited funds, while Blizzard made Diablo 4 with unlimited funds and hundreds of developers.. And I would hands down still choose Last Epoch over D4 any day! So much more skill passives, fun 2nd class upgrades, and as you said Peon, you can put in hours of hours in the game without getting bored and you do feel the increase in strength of the character every level.
As a kick starter backer of this game i've seen it evolve over the years and it keeps on getting better and better each patch EHG is an amazing company who cares about there players Last Epoch is one ofthe best Arpgs hands down
I think it's just because he didn't use the crafting system, which is super important for that, as well as using the loot filter for the exact items you want
yea the crafting system is very important and easy to learn u can make perfect gear for your playstyle at any point in the game given you have the materials
Setting up a correct loot filter for your build initially speeds up time reading useless items, and if the crafting would have been thought better here he would have had an even better experience with loot and crafting.
The proper camera view, the endless easy to understand builds, combat always engaging, not always a breeze, but never soul crushing your spirit. In general best of the best designs and lots of fun.
This game has massive potential, it's beautiful, has nice quality of life features - tells you exactly how you died, can easily store resources instantly from inventory, stash tabs do not cost real life money, gameplay is fluid and fun, music is great, theme is pretty unique. Just needs to expand on end game system, it's similar to maps from PoE but you can actually choose what rewards you will get from each map - another cool quality of life thing. Apparently the crafting is also 10/10 but I haven't really explored it
One thing I noticed is you didn’t use the “Transfer Crafting Materials” button. Clears all crafting material in your inventory and stores them outside of your inventory
The crafting is super addicting and I love how I can collect attributes on gear and break them down to make upgrades really consistently. Really enjoying it so far as a huge D3 player. It does feel accessible while POE has always made me quit in the first hour of trying it.
I'm a noob to this game, but I absolutely love it. Prepping for Diablo 4, I started playing a little of D3. Noticed I had this in my Steam library so a loaded it up and decided to try it out. WoW, I dropped D3 like a rock. Character design in Last Epoch felt like another level compared to D3. Already bought D4 and so will be checking it out, but I'm not going to stop playing this game anytime soon. The game designers behind Last Epoch feel like PhD students - compared to the college grads who designed D3. Last Epoch just opened a cosmetic cash store and I immediately bought something from it that I'll forget about tomorrow - just to throw money at the devs. Like I've done with Warframe. This is a dev team and game that I want to support.
@8:54 :" you have died for X reason " - THATS IT BOYS, that message alone is bigger than POE ! (after so many years , 99% of the times you can`t tell what the hell killed you at endgame)
This is the kind of game you should support in the current year I feel like. Proper games made by passionate studios devoid of any BS. It's the price of an MTX ffs. Just buy it.
126 Hours played, all prior to rogue release and multi-player. Loved it back then, waiting for full release now to really dive back in for good. Glad you reviewed this, millions of people are sleeping on this.
I've been playing Last Epoch off and on for a while, and it's been a lot of fun, it scratches that PoE itch without being anywhere as complex, or beginner-hostile. Your Pros and Cons mirror my own, pretty much, and I look forward to the 1.0 release. Lastly, as a side-note: please, in your vids, spellcheck before uploading, the typo(s) look bad, you're a native English speaker, there's really no excuse for it.
same conclusion on my end, took me way too long to realize the importance of crafting and understanding it, not a really complicated system in the end. But when you wait 30 lvl for gear to appear, no you gotta craft one and deconstruct the items with the improvement you want for your build. The game could really teach it better. But it's incredibly fun, been having a blast as well
This video convinced me to buy Last Epoch. Currently trying to enjoy D4 but all the times you said " how much fun " you had in LE made me ask myself if i felt the same about D4, the answer is no, so ill buy LE, thank you
you know what's crazy? i saw your video 3 times through other youtubes reactions before youtube recommended your video to me. I have been subscribed for years already to your youtube channel. crazy how the algorithm works hhahahaa
Im not an arpg player. More an fps dude. I played for 7 hours straight yesterday forgetting to eat. Now level 60 taking on the endgame which is 1000x more addicting and fun than the campaign. This game is amazing cant wait to start a new character
Got this game a couple days ago and returned it two hours later. There’s literally no feedback when you use your powers. The powers are cool it has potential but I guess the best way I can explain it it’s like when you use your powers you’re just squirting, a water gun into a marshmallow.
i believe the devs talked about that in their update. The reason why they hadnt had good update time is because of a small team and updating online into the game. they plan on being more active after adding to the staff
I feel like there's a divide in ARPGs now where you have ARPGs that have you farm currency items like PoE or Lost Ark and then there's RPGs that let you farm straight up items like Diablo and Last Epoch. Personally to me the currency-based ARPGs feel like a chore or a second job, whereas the item-based ARPGs actually feel rewarding and accessible. I'm glad there's more and more ARPGs returning to the "old" formula
I feel the same way. If Lost Ark was an item farming game I'd never play any other game, but currency and "chance for upgrade gear" games have a much less satisfying endgame.
On the note of "Getting upgrades is very rng." In addition to crafting, there are bosses with specific unique drops that are quite likely to drop, allowing you to target farm things. Also, the endgame is focused primarily around a system similar to mapping in PoE, and while progressing them each map has a specific extra reward that you can see before going to the map and those extra rewards can be things like a guaranteed random unique or several drops of a specific type (ex: Rare shields, rare helms, idols, etc). In addition to crafting to upgrade items, there is also a somewhat rare rune you can get that will transform a non-unique into a random unique of the same type. So there are plenty of ways to target upgrades with adding affixes/upgrading affixes with crafting, and various means of reducing rng to chase more specific things.
This quickly became my favorite ARPG. So much less frustrating than PoE for example; the crafting is superb, stash tabs are purchased with in-game gold, and there are so many more builds that are viable long-term. I find myself trying different builds, skills and mechanics that I haven't progressed that far in the endgame yet. So much bang for your buck.
Off topic but you look really good man. Used to watch you a lot several years ago and it looks like you went from frequenting every local Magic the Gathering tournament to frequenting the high seas via longship in search of villages to ransack.
I've played this game occassionally ever since I purchased the early access two years ago, and enjoyed it every time and it keeps getting better. It's final release may take a long time, but I feel it's gonna be really good. And I've enjoyed the early access enough to already feel I got my money's worth. The skill system is amazing. Picking a skill you like and then customizing it to make it act exactly as you want to is so much fun.
Leveled a Golem necro to lvl 100 this patch, was very fun and enjoyable! Maybe i lacked some goal in endgame once i got most of decent gear set up, you could keep scaling stuff and do endless arena but eventually i lost some interest. Still gave me lots of hours of fun though.
Pressing "G" will let you read the in-game guide. You just didn't use it to answer any of your questions, there should have been a pop-up early game as to how to find it, probably clicked it away before reading it? As soon as you get to "End of time" you can enter the right side of the map to start doing "PoE" style maps that are super fun. Glad you enjoyed it.
I bought this game 3 years ago. Played very sparingly from time to time. I liked it but it needed more. Recently picked it up again and been playing it a lot. The game has come a long way and is quite fun. I like PoE but it's a bit complicated and convoluted for my tiny brain. I feel like LE is a perfect level of depth/complexity. It has the depth of PoE but much more straight forward about it. I also think the combination of the superb built in loot filter plus the crafting system make the game very fun to play. I do hope they add some additional end game content but for now the game is pretty damn good.
that frost root warden killed me alot, i was death less all the way up to that monster. i been loving the game so much, really nice balanced blend of complexity and approachability. making your own build and loot filter on the fly is pretty intuitive to do, and crafting is also very helpful at any point in the game. skills having there own passive tree is also a nice inbetween point difference from the typical skill system in diablo and the more complex skill gem system like in poe. one of the best things in this game that i really loved, was the changing the colors of the items names in the loot filter for super powerful stats for my build, knowing the stats were so hard to find, that when they did drop i knew it was super good item to craft on. the feeling was like o shit look its the item i was looking for, just felt so good every time.
Yeah its a great game, its simple and at the same time very deep, the skilltrees for every spell is just a brilliant system that unlocks a ton of variety. And to my surprise most builds however whacky works if you put in enough time and optimize them.
I find it hypocritical that if Diablo doesn't have a good first 30 levels that it's a garbage game but Last Epoch it's okay. Regardless of your funding...

i will knock you out and drop you where you stand
bye bye noob
Wait.... this game has ARC LIGHTNING ????? OMG count me IN!!
The best part of the end game I like is you can craft on uniques, AS well as many uniques being targetable.
Last Epoch is such a great game, I never had any doubts since alpha.
Yet again another game that Peon reviewed that i ended up loving.
First was Guild Wars 2 back in 2015 ish, and i played it ever since.
When he reviewed this game back in 2021 it made me want to try it and now its even better.
Peon's got taste is what im saying.
well.......that's 2 out of like... 20 positive reviews? statistically not good.
@@iabaca this is how i imagine blizzard meetings go, dumbass comments like this lmao, mans found some games he's enjoyed, ur not meant to enjoy every game someone else has reviewed xD
I’m waiting for 1.0 for this one, but I believe it’ll be a killer game when it fully launches as it already seems great.
It will launch together with Diablo 6 so i really doubt it will still be good by then.
@@gubitiful heh
@@zacharyshort384 that's the joke, this game been in alpha for years now.
I really like your videos! Especially the way you cut/edit them. Just 20 minutes of important notes and impressions.
@@MoistYoghurt its also really intuitive, you just kinda do it and you are like yeh it makes sense :D
@@MoistYoghurt It's very easy and it happens. Meanwhile PoE.
@Joe Valdez yea it was really easy to figure out myself, but I wanted to learn the entire crafting system to try and get best in slot gear
theres like 9 different floors of these things called echos that have 3 different big bosses you gotta defeat before you can move onto the next one and once you full clear them all they all scale up to level 100 because you should be 90+ by this point and thats when you really can start grinding out really good gear for builds because you can get some build changing unique's in the high level echos
No way! I just got into this game and am playing rn. I checked like a few hrs ago and saw the last video and now hes dropping another one.
I just looked this game up again yesterday wondering how it was these days. Glad you're here when we need you!
I have played around 120 hours in LE and am much more hyped for it's future then i am for Diablo 4 honestly.
I wish my gaming videos were as good as Peon's. One of my favorite YTers making review videos. Very good job :)
this is easily the best ARPG since D2.
its addictive but doesn't feel like its wasting your time.
no p2w. only a box price.
lots of new and fun things to build.
i just broke 250 hrs and expect I'm only 1/10th of the way through the content and classes and builds available now.
Now d4 led me to try PoE (which I had somehow completely overlooked all these years) and every new thing I discover over there makes me realize how lazy and soulles the D4 design is.
i was literately on steam and just to put in the search bar about this game hoping LazyPeon made a video and then refreshed and boom there it is. i think its meant to be
You just keep hitting all my fave games!! Wooo!
Diablo 4 beta was my first ever ARPG. Because it's now over, I found this game a few days ago and have been hooked ever since.
This game is the first time I've had that (good) addiction feeling of "just a little longer" in a very long time. It's fun from the start, and just keeps getting more fun. I love the way I can create my own builds and easily respec when I make mistakes/learn more.
Been playing since 2019ish, honestly the bones of the game are still there, it just has more polish. They have done amazing work over the years.
This game is slowly getting a lot of a attention, ill deff have to check it out this weekend after watching your video.
Really digging this genre these days.
As a kick starter backer of this game i've seen it evolve over the years and it keeps on getting better and better each patch EHG is an amazing company who cares about there players Last Epoch is one ofthe best Arpgs hands down
I know its a CON for you finding stuff for your build being extremely rare but this is what makes it so addictive IMO
It’s extremely easy to find upgrades for your build up until like empowered 150 then maybe you get less upgrades
The proper camera view, the endless easy to understand builds, combat always engaging, not always a breeze, but never soul crushing your spirit. In general best of the best designs and lots of fun.
I started it two days ago and haven’t stopped it’s so fun!!
Look awesome! Just bought it on your rec.
Sold! I will buy the game thanks to You! Great video as always! :D
Apparently the crafting is also 10/10 but I haven't really explored it
Extra stash tabs do not cost real life money because the game costs 34 euro itself, you bought those stastabs with real life money bro.
You can select auto compare on hover in gameplay settings I believe
Looks like a pretty solid game. I put it on my wishlist, and I intend to buy it as soon as the definitive version comes out
that could take another 2 years
@8:54 :" you have died for X reason " - THATS IT BOYS, that message alone is bigger than POE ! (after so many years , 99% of the times you can`t tell what the hell killed you at endgame)
Great video, finally something amusing for Peon to play at, glad for u mate!
Loot filters are a big part, understanding how those work will help
Thank you for the exposure. Genuine curious whenever it launches. Great vid👌
But it's incredibly fun, been having a blast as well
getting items you need for your build is much easier once you understand the amazing crafting system
last epoch hits that middle ground that D4 missed pretty nicely
This video convinced me to buy Last Epoch. Currently trying to enjoy D4 but all the times you said " how much fun " you had in LE made me ask myself if i felt the same about D4, the answer is no, so ill buy LE, thank you
you know what's crazy? i saw your video 3 times through other youtubes reactions before youtube recommended your video to me. I have been subscribed for years already to your youtube channel. crazy how the algorithm works hhahahaa
Great game. Can't wait for the other mastery classes to come out
Im not an arpg player. More an fps dude. I played for 7 hours straight yesterday forgetting to eat. Now level 60 taking on the endgame which is 1000x more addicting and fun than the campaign. This game is amazing cant wait to start a new character
in d4 you could right click on the map and you got a path/line to follow on the mini map.
maybe i remember wrong but did you do that in d4?
Got this game a couple days ago and returned it two hours later. There’s literally no feedback when you use your powers. The powers are cool it has potential but I guess the best way I can explain it it’s like when you use your powers you’re just squirting, a water gun into a marshmallow.
its amazing, only problem is the development speed. waiting since years for a release, i would not bet on a 2023 release.
i believe the devs talked about that in their update.
I agree. I really dislike something like PoE where every item is effectively just "How much (insert currency here) is it worth?"
this is my first time seeing one of your videos and 3:38 took me entirely off guard, while simultaneously earning a like 😅
excellent review mate
This game is easily looking like the best ARPG on the market in terms of sheer viability of builds.
bought this two days ago XD nice to see you doing a review.
I LOVE my chain-lightning wizard! Destroys everything!
Picking a skill you like and then customizing it to make it act exactly as you want to is so much fun.
this is definitely the next one i play when im done with grim dawn!
Im addicted to grim dawn right now lol
Leveled a Golem necro to lvl 100 this patch, was very fun and enjoyable! Maybe i lacked some goal in endgame once i got most of decent gear set up, you could keep scaling stuff and do endless arena but eventually i lost some interest. Still gave me lots of hours of fun though.
I see on most guides Golem necro is the only meta one. Is there any other variant that can do high arena/ high corruption?
My buddy described this game as the perfect stepping stone to Path of Exile. Once you're done here, you go there.

5:31 OK I'm sold, goofy items like these are my favourite. 100% gonna try the game.
Seeing you enjoying the game is so much fun to watch!
So glad you covered this game I've spent 30 hours in it over the past few days and I'm loving it 👌 great game
The crafting is really easy to understand and use once you know how it works, and is really fun to engage with and progress your char/gear.
Yeah its a great game, its simple and at the same time very deep, the skilltrees for every spell is just a brilliant system that unlocks a ton of variety. And to my surprise most builds however whacky works if you put in enough time and optimize them.
No cut scenes is a huge plus for me to be honest. AAA titles where you spend more time watching than playing drives me bonkers.
If you’re bored in the beginning, hang in there. It gets awesome around lvl 30. Don’t be afraid to respec and play what is good for you.
I find it hypocritical that if Diablo doesn't have a good first 30 levels that it's a garbage game but Last Epoch it's okay. Regardless of your funding...
@@MixMeister5000 once I figured out the game more it got easier making new characters. Just made a lich and having a blast currently. D4 looks good imo
