We were a bunch of teenage metalhead in my small town in France. One evening this video appeared on TV. Next day there was no other conversation topic than "have you seen that band????" I found the album on a flea market. Next time we heard of these guys is when Razzle died.
y grandparents had a place up in Canada for the summers. A friend of mine introduced me to them and showed me a video off of MuchMusic. I ended up trading him an Autograph cassette for Two Steps From The Move and Triumph's Thunder Seven album. I was addicted immediately and went out and bought all their imports. In the early 90's I had the privelge of getting to meet and talk with Sammy, at a Jetboy concert. A real class act that was just blown away by how much my GF just loved HR.
Was watching MTV one day. Yes, in the 80s. Was just about to turn the channel and this video came on. After the video was over, went to the record store and bought the cassette of two steps from the move. Also went to the liquor store and bought a 12 pack. Then rocked out.
🇫🇮💙 🇫🇮💙 🇫🇮💙 🇫🇮💙 🇫🇮💙 🇫🇮💙 I am proud to be Finnish & I have LOVED Hanoi Rocks since the very early 80's. I had to go to a music store two hours away from my hometown so I could special order their CDs! When Michael Monroe dropped his solo album & he guest hosted as a "VJ" on Mtv? I was there with a VHS tape in the VCR and the remote firmly in my hands. I recorded each & every time he was onscreen. I loved when he would go on air after a commercial & he almost sounded shy saying, "Hiiii...This is Michael Monroe..." Sigh. I endlessly watched and rewound that tape...until the dreaded day when it was eaten by the VCR. I even did the old "cut & splice with Scotch tape" trick a few times until it finally went to 🔥hell🔥 *One of the better metal covers I've heard...they cranked up a classic, had fun, & added some much needed energy. Compounded with their "glam rock" look in the video, & Michael Monroe's cheekbones, I thought it would/should be a bigger hit. I do believe it would have been bigger if re-released. Of course the horrible & tragic accident that took Razzle way too soon and Vince Neil's subsequent lack of any real justice was & remains a travesty. IMHO, I think it puts CCR/John (Johnny One-Note) Fogerty waaaaay on the back-burner. Hanoi Rocks rocks this one passed any other version. 🇫🇮SISU🇫🇮

hate to break it to ya' but their music goes back a bit before 1990. I still have 3 copies of "Two Steps from the Move" released in 1984, one of which is on vinyl, I bought it new that year, in September or October. Couldn't wait for them come thru Philly on tour. Sadly, Razzle was killed a couple of months later.
I wish they would make "THE DIRT" into a HOLLYWOOD history Series... acted by all the best New and upcoming actors & musicians in the scene I am sort of SICK of everybody SUDDENLY believing everything over the 20 odd years was exactly and ONLY what happened in that cool Motley Crue movie
Up until January of 85, I had made a point of watching TV as little as possible, trying not to own one, although once in a while someone would give me a black and white, which would almost always get pawned for 10.00, traded for drugs, or stolen. Then my life changed drastically and suddenly I was watching MTV for the first time. I watched lots of videos but the only one that I remember clearly was "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." One night a couple of months ago I decided I wanted to hear it and watch it again, and ended up reading about this band, who have more to do with early punk scene (New York Dolls, Dee Dee Ramone) than the Hollywood glam that came after. They could easily have been packaged and marketed as punk, but Mike's refusal to change his style or cut his hair made that impossible. They were just a little ahead of their time, pushed boundaries, as with this Creedence cover, and with the possible exception of G&R, whose musicianship I like, but can't stand Axl's misogyny and racism, were better than most who came after; Poison, Skid Row, Ratt, and all the rest are very vague in my memory. This band stands out, and generally I can't stand the whole corporate/Hollywood style. You can't say that this band was not unique and original in their approach. They actually "meant it."
In 1985 these guys literally looked and pretty much sounded more or less like every other band in the LA scene during the early/mid 80s. I'm not shitting on them, I'm just confused at all the comments about them being "unique." I realize they aren't natives of southern CA so maybe they were different during their early days in Helsinki (I think?) and maybe that's what those comments refer to.
