Thank you SOOO MUCH for this tutorial/prep!! I checked the brother website, and they didn't even have a manual for it!! Coming across your channel was a Blessing!! I pray to the Lord that you have a fantastic evening!! GOD BLESS YOU!!
That's so awesome! I'm so happy this video was able to help you. This is such a sweet machine!! You're lucky to have one. Thank you so much for this video! I just got this sewing machine from my mother in law that’s been in her basement for years! I’ve wanted to start sewing and never have used a machine in my life, so this video was so so helpful!
@@wwedivawannabe1070 I think you'll love sewing on this machine. It's simple to use, once you get used to it. My advice is to practice often, and even when you make a mistake you're still learning. My seam ripper and I are good friends 😆 Thanks so much for watching my video, and for commenting. Happy sewing!! 😃
My mom got me this machine in the mid 90's. It was my first sewing machine and I still use it. I do sometimes have issues with the wheel on the side getting stuck making bobbin winding tricky. But 30 years later I'm still sewing on it.
30 years and still going! 😀 Hopefully you can find out what is going on with the wheel. But you've got a wonderful machine. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Thanks so much for posting this! This is my exact sewing machine and I am just starting to learn and my teacher found this video for me to explain the ins and outs of my machine. This is so helpful. 😊
I'm so happy the video helped you! This machine is perfect for a new sewist. It's simple and sturdy. With a little practice, you'll be making all sorts of projects. Happy sewing!! Thanks for watching 😁

@@24kandis I don't have this machine anymore, I gave it away. So, I cannot tell you if there is an adjustment screw or dial for the pressure foot on this machine. Some machines have them, and some don't. Is your tension too tight or loose while you are sewing?
If you've tried changing the stitch length to a long stitch and loosening the tension, then I'm not sure. Are your feed dogs moving, grabbing the fabric? It could be that the feed dogs are not pulling the fabric.
I have the same one that I’ve had for many years. It works perfectly still but I’ve haven’t used it much either. It’s awesome that you only paid $4 for yours 😮

You can try and check your prongs where you plug it into the machine. Are they bent or discolored? If so, you may need to clean it to get a good connection. If you are getting power, like your machine is on, but the pedal isn't working, it could be a wire disconnected or damaged inside the pedal. Worst case, you may need to find a new or like new foot pedal. I hope this helps🙂

@@marktreski9957 I'm not sure because I don't see much info on the internet about this model. If I were to guess, I'd say mid to late 90's. Maybe 1997?
You can use a universal needle, the kind with the flat back. I like Schmetz or Brother brand needles. I recommend a pack of assorted sizes because you will need different sizes for different fabric weight and thickness. A very light weight you may use a size 10 or 11, but heavy fabric may need a 16 or 18 size needle. I use coats and clark all purpose thread for everyday sewing. But, if you are sewing jeans or heavy fabric you may need a heavier thread. Just make sure it is ok to use in the sewing machine. Some threads, like hand quilting thread warns against putting it in your machine. You really want to avoid putting very cheap thread in your machine, as it tends to break when you're sewing. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching 😁
I don't have this machine because I gave it to someone who needed one. But, I think there should be a black button right in back of the presser foot. You press that and raise your presser foot and it will come off. Then, align your zipper foot below, and drop your presser bar to attach it. I hope this helps, it's tough to explain. I learn better watching, and I am sure there are a few videos out there that can show you. Thanks so much for watching!!

I was cleaning and reorganizing my craft studio, and donated lots of items, including 3 sewing machines. I've taken a few minutes and researched for you. I found one site that claims to have this manual for download with a $5.95 fee. It's called sew consult .com. I personally know nothing about this site, so you may need to research it before you purchase. I've also bought physical manuals off of eBay, so you may find some listed on there for sale. There could be a few reasons why the bobbin thread tangles. Sometimes the sewing machine is threaded wrong or the bobbin is wound too loosely or it's uneven. Also, the bobbin could be worn out. If so, replace it with a new one. You should also inspect your needle. Is it dull or bent? Is it the correct size for the weight of fabric you are sewing? It can be a bit frustrating to have this happen. Most of the time, I check my tension, needle, bobbin and threading and it usually it's one or the other. I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching!

I'm sorry it took so long to respond to your comment. It ended up in my held for review section. I think because the words in blue in your comment flagged the system probably thinking those were links. Well, I sure hope you are able to find out what's wrong with your machine. I'm not sure what is causing your needle not to move, other than a broken belt, or if a broken needle and thread are wound up in it. I ended up giving this machine away because a friend needed one, otherwise I could have it in front of me to see if the feed dogs drop down on this machine. I'm not sure, but if the feed dogs can drop down and that would be a reason. You may need to raise the feed dogs. Let me know if you get it running. My friend loves this machine, and it's still going strong. It may be worth it for you to have it serviced at a repair shop. Thanks for your comment and for watching! 🙂
Do you want to drop the feed dogs for free motion quilting, or are you having trouble with your feed dogs gripping and pulling your fabric through as you sew? The machine I'm using in this video, does not drop the feed dogs that I can see. There isn't a lever to slide over on the back like many of the newer machines. I do not have a manual for this machine, so I'm not positive that they won't drop. You may be able to use a darning plate on your machine to keep the feed dogs from grabbing so you can free motion or embroider that way. If your feed dogs are not pulling the fabric through, the first thing to do is pull off your plate and make sure there isn't a build up of lint on your feed dogs. If there is still a problem, you may need to take it to a repair shop. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi! That knob is the tension disc for the upper thread. Some of the older machines had knobs. Newer machines generally have a "U" shaped slot the thread goes through instead of a knob.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with your machine. Do you think it can be repaired? You can take it to a repair shop, or if you're comfortable you can open it up and see what's going on inside. I found a hand needle and thread caught inside the handwheel, of a Brother machine I thrifted. After I pulled it out it ran fine. You never know, but it really is a good machine if you can get it working. Thanks for your comment and for watching my video. 🙂
