- Shannon Miller performs three consecutive whipbacks in her winning floor exercise routine in the 1993 Hilton Challenge.
Kim Zmeskal had recently retired, which saw Shannon adopt that gymnast's world-famous trademark pass. This event also marked the first time in history that a USA women's gymnastics team bested all possible contenders from the (former) Soviet Union.
This is one of my favorite routines of all time. The choreography, music and tumbling are a perfect combination.
Whipback is the sweetest looking gymnastics move, it might be simple but i think it looks the coolest
I love the whipback. I wish the gymnasts today would do them.
I still say Shannon was ROBBED in '92!

Shannon has the most elegant form/extension in whipbacks that I've ever seen, definitely looks like more than just an elevated flipflop when she does it!
I sorta think of this as a farewell tribute to Kim Zmeskal, during her (first) retirement ;)
Sooo beautiful. She danced from the tips of her fingers to her toes. I think her dance was less noticeable at the time because her music was very understated, but watching this now, it looks like you would see this in a ballet.
what an incredibly fluid flood routine! i recently hurt my back and i could not imagine how much pain she would be in doing that routine! incredible!

PS I have created a gymnastics playlist so sometimes I speak of others in the process of watching in shuffle, but I have love for them and many more. My admiration of Shannon is her uniqueness, my like of Dawes doesn't take away from anything that she's done. I'm glad at a young age I got to see both, but thanks for the upload! Replay ;)
Well, we're all entitled to our own opinions I can agree to disagree but I'm glad you did so respectfully. Either way I love them both and appreciate what they bring, Shannon to me is one of the best and has the medals to prove it, but I'm grateful to have more than one US gymnast to admire regardless of olympic wins. Shannon has made me gasp, but I can never forget Dominique tumbling across the floor and then back again. Well, I have love for them in their own different ways.

@ImmortalSynn Actually, this mix is composed of three songs: The Mail, Wonderful Violin, and Gypsy Song. And yes, they are all three exquisite :)

...if you like this, then I strongly recommend buying/downloading more of Sandor Lakatos' music. His songs "The Mail" and "Gypsy Violin" were spliced together to create this music, but their full versions are awesome in their own right!
@luv4cookie1 Shannon may be a more decorated gymnast but when it comes to tumbling, there is no competition between her and Kim. Her tripple whip tumbling pass is far better than this.
I love Dominique Dawes and Shannon Miller. Awesome Daweson and stick it like Shannon!

LOL, I'm not sure what we're disagreeing on... I was talking about the Barcelona All-Around between Miller and Gutsu, nothing to do with Dawes, who's probably my favorite gymnast of all time.

I have it, but it's not digitized. It was a longggggg meet, I doubt you'll find the whole thing, but who knows. :)
There are several other clips of it besides just these two.

Sure, schedule is a lot more open, so I can do it. I have the full women's meet, and a good bit of the men's, but not all of it. A bit of static, but still very clear for being a 19yr old tape. :)

Also, do you require a VHS tape? I can send it as an *.mpg (to view on computer) or a DVD much more easily than I can by replicating a VHS.
If you choose digital, give me until this Sunday, allow me to see if I can digitize it in its entirety. If so, we'll figure out a fair offering from there. I don't think $12 ($10 for the tape, $2 to compensate shipping) is unfair, do you? If VHS, it'd be more due to more effort

That's an opinion, which you or anyone else is more than entitled to have... but also keep in mind that Shannon won wayyyyy more accolades, in more venues, than Kim ever did.
So it's certainly arguable.

Yes, but not for this specific routine.

"Steal"? Well, Kim was gone by this point, and she didn't return for nearly 4yrs later. So seems it was up for fair grabs to me.
Lavinia Milosovici obviously thought the same thing, as she also performed the same pass, with a front added after the double twist, at this point (and all the way up to the '96 Olympics) as well.
