  • NEW DELHI: One thing that stood out in the run-up to the just concluded assembly elections in Assam was the absence of insurgency dominating the popular discourse. Even political parties refrained from using it as a campaign tool. But rewind a couple of decades and ULFA was the buzzword, dominating the socio-political landscape in Assam and unleashing a reign of terror. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale chronicles the years when the state, the tea industry in particular, went through the horrors of extortion and killings.

Superb analysis! Having grown up in Assam in the 90s, saw the insurgency first hand. Amazing turnaround now, and Nitin's coverage is top-notch as always.

this person nitin gokhle sir is epitome of famous saying why integrity has limited reach. When idiots like arnab has larger audience but this man what a content he has still he gets very less views still he abides by his ethics and morals. Salute to you nithin sir.

Sir try bringing the book back in any form... Would be really helpful sir... At least an 1 hour discussion of your book in the "Books Corner" would give us an idea of your 1st "baby".

Don't forget to mention those atrocities committed by the armed forces on civilians with gruesome torture, rape, humiliation and extra judicial killings.

Absolutely fabulous video! Just shows the might of the Indian state, with whatever it's faults, has crushed insurgencies in Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Punjab (special credit to the then PM Indira Gandhi). This government deserves massive credit for the decades long peace process in Bodoland, Assam, other North East states too!

@@sawedoffshotgun8462 Yeah, there is unrest in Manipur now. So that negates all the peace and development works in the last decade or so in North East?

@@mihirpatkie1793 I am not talking about the ethnic violence in Manipur, I'm talking about the militancy. These suspension of operations agreements can be overdue anytime. Do you know how many insurgent groups are operating? Nearly 30 belong to the Kuki tribe alone. Rest of the groups are still active.
