  • It’s the longest running insurgency in Asia and negotiations have been on for over two decades now, yet a peace deal remains elusive for Naga insurgent groups. The issue (of Naga sovereignty) has been alive since India’s Independence and the ‘struggle’ led to the creation of smaller states from the undivided state of Assam. It has had its share of hope, betrayal and violence but the future seems uncertain. In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale looks back at the Naga insurgency since its formative years.

      Arid - Not anybody it was BK Nehru. Not now - it was way back in 1990. He opined that his blood uncle and our beloved chahcha Nehru opened the Pandora’s box. It’s kinda idiotic when you miss the point of a comment.

      Johney Smith India’s Tibet ? Yeah I can see that happening at some point albeit far into the future. I hope Tibet breaks the shackles and aligns with it’s cultural sister which is India.

    • @onthefence5247
      @onthefence5247 3 года назад

      Johney Smith - let me educate you. Unlike it’s neighbors India is a union and has a deep federal structure with states, districts, zillas and villages which make up for the 500 odd you refer to. They follow a democratic constitution based on Dharma which they continually improve. Other Dharmic cultures like Tibet are automatically related and will ally with India even if not currently but may be in future

    • @onthefence5247
      @onthefence5247 3 года назад

      Johney Smith - History is what someone chooses to believe in. who cares what you think about India’s history. It’s for Indians to figure out. And they are 1/6th of humanity.

    Nitin..informative video but maps disappear before one could read and understand the content. Please show maps for a longer time, as most of us are neither familiar with the names (of various districts, which you reel off one after the other in rapid succession) nor the geography of the region. Perhaps, you could speak from a frame in frame and explain with the help of maps which can take up the larger space ion the screen. That would make it easy to understand and appreciate. Thanks.

    Just a personal view.
    NSCN leaders are not concerned about hopes and development. All they care about are Flag, constitution, money, NOT their own tribes, Not their own people, not their wishes, not their ambitions. This is the reason peace talks are getting delayed, due to lack of intellectuals in that group. And amid this, talents and expertise of Naga people in various sectors are getting diluted.
    Methodology must change, as the life progresses. 1960s 80s 90s were different. And now, with the world moving towards multilateralism, these leaders who are aware of nothing, can be seen picking up poor kids from villages and confining their destinies over few sq kilometers, which affects their right to life. ATLEAST, A FOOTBALL LEAGUE could have been initiated by the NSCN, as a part of that extorted money, for representing Nagaland's love for Sports. But alas, separatism, divide and rule, greed will make Naga people revolt against them one day.
    NSCN's aim is to accomplish their dreams before most of the Naga rural villages become literate and start developing conscience and Reason. Because after that, current methods of extortion will not be regarded as a radical measure, unlike now. I wonder what is the meaning of socialist for them!!

    My father was once captured by NSCNIM rebels while he was serving there in the ARMY. In return they were asking for ammunation and RDX. But my father one dark night escaped on his own and while running blind in the dark in those jungles fell in a pit where his spine was damaged. There he sat as he was not able to move at all without food and water. He was later found during a search operation. Now this August he retired as HONORARY LIEUTENANT. And yes those rebels did not get what they demanded.
