    I used to use crickhoppers and the rebel crayfish all the time when I was a kid, and me and my brother would have "rock bass tournaments" against each other at my grandmother's cottage in central Ontario. Then I kinda forgot about them until last year when someone bought me the rebel variety kit. Now it's become a go to again for small ponds and creeks. Awesome, time tested lures.

    Getting dorsal finned, sliced on gill plates, and caught on our own hooks is just the karmic price we all pay. Turnabout is fair play.

    I have used the Crickhopper as my “go-to” cheap universal bait for 30 years. You just can’t beat em when you’re not sure what is biting and just want to catch a fish (/);}

    I haven't fished in years and I live in a small town, so my selection of fish gear is small unless I drive an hour to the nearest academy or bass pro. I was always told Ugly Stick was the best ultra light. I have recently gotten back into fishing. You have shown me new equipment that is awesome. I recently bought a Lews ultra light setup at the local Walmart. I am still baffled at the hi vis braid. The Lews ultra light is bright green, so I had to get matching braid! Thanks again for your videos. They got me up to speed!

    Here's a suggestion: Rapala makes two versions of micro-poppers, one with a frog pattern and one silver and black. Those little poppers have caught some big bass for me, as well as bigger bluegill, warmouth, and even green and long-eared sunfish. Top water blow-ups are so fun on ultra-light gear.

    Wading down a creek with a crickhopper tied onto an ultralight is what happiness is made out of. I love it. It’s truly a multi species bait. You never know what you’re going to pull out of a creek until it gets hit. Fun times.

    Definitely one thing this video has taught us is fish the condition and stop trying to make the fish eat something they don’t want I’m guilty as the days long with this I’ll just go out and just keep casting and casting and no reason to why I’m still casting something that ain’t working lol

      Creeks are called Cricks by some US residents. So the lure name comes from it being a grass hopper for a creek. A Creekhopper which translated into US dialect = Crickhopper.

      @@FishAnything it keeps it from getting stuck on most things and you’ll still catch a ton of fish. I’ve also attached octopus hooks to them in some trout streams were barbless hooks are needed. That does affect hook up ratio. The rebel lures work so good for shoal bass or other stream specialists down here in Alabama/Georgia

    If I could only have one lure for year-round fishing in NC and VA, it would be the small crickhopper. Thankfully, I don't need to depend on it. Here's my rule of thumb for color selection. Early Spring - Yellow; Late Spring-Summer - green grasshopper; Late Summer - Summer grasshopper; October-November - brown. Anytime....anywhere, the black color will surprise you. I've never caught anything on the fire tiger.
