Cloud doesn't protect Tifa ONLY because of the promise. Tifa means the world to him and he doesn't want to lose her. Especially the most dangerous scenes tells you all. Tifa has to be ptotected and kept safe at any cost because she means so much to him.
Hell in og I really just see aerith as kinda just jumping from Zack's death and getting with his best friend who basically has multiple sides to himself. While when tifa involved its the cloud from when he was a kid and the promise he made to her and his genuine dedication to protect her from their kid days. Knowing she cared back then and even more since then that's why I just wish he would be with her😭
@1:11 Cloud offered his hand to Tifa and guided her to safety by putting his hand at her back. Same with @1:18 which I have not seen with Aerith. He also goes to Tifa’s direction instead of Aerith. I am excited to play Rebirth. My Cloti heart is happy seeing him always wanting to touch Tifa. Too many touches spiky. 😌
Yeah he kept his promise to keep Tifa safe at all costs. She needs his protection because she feels vulnerable and fearful, Cloud and Tifa have a great relationship together because it shows that they will do anything to risk their lives to safe one or the other, this is by far the cutest ship I have ever seen! The devs are really pushing for Cloti in the remake. I think it’s because they might bring Zack back to life for Aerith. Does anyone notice that Cloti have so much little intimate moments? That even if Cloud is with Aerith too, he STILL chooses to save Tifa. Insane haha
I feel like the obvious pairing is CloudxTifa and ZackxAerith. Especially in the remake. When it comes to Aerith and Cloud, they seem to lean more towards their connection with Zack. Aerith is drawn to cloud because everything about him is similar to Zack (Falling through the church, being "SOILDER", having the same sword) and Cloud is drawn to Aerith because he took on Zacks memories. Not saying the 2 do not live each other like friends, but I think thats as far as it goes. Aerith even makes it obvious that she knows Cloud has feelings for Tifa.

Also, if they were going to go down the route of "cloud likes Aerith but now Zack is back and things are complicated" will not even be the story at all. So it will most likely be cut and dry of Zack and Aerith and Coud and Tifa.
They're the couple that makes sense really. Cloud has loved Tifa since childhood. Even if he started to love Aeris he wouldve still loved Tifa. He'd probably realize that if he dated Aeris for a while. Plus she dies so. He moved on and stayed with first choice when she reciprocated.

After that reveal from Rude, when you fight the Turks in the og ff7, if Tifa's in the party Rude won't attack her unless she's the last party member left standing.
Anyways I hope they let the these 2 be together cause I think that's what alot of us have always wanted and not because we hate aer. It's just these 2 been together and caring for each other forever🤷♂️.
