    How tentacle of the deep have +3 frost dmg ? In the book there is only 1k8 dmg .

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  11 месяцев назад +3

      Great eye on that @mstyr-dc6rd ! The book is correct, Tendrils of the Deep should only be a 1d8 of cold damage. After researaching, I have discovered that D&D Beyond adds the charisma modifier which is incorrect. This is a known BUG on D&D Beyond that has not yet been fixed. But, yes. Only a 1d8 for damage.

    I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere, but Hunger of Hadar does not specifically use the term "magical darkness." That being said, it also uses the most important keywords found in magical darkness: Anyone within is blinded, and no light can illuminate it, in Hunger's case neither magical or otherwise. In my opinion, yes, Hunger of Hadar creates magical darkness, and could thus be seen through by Devil's Sight, but not by regular Darkvision.

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  8 месяцев назад +1

      Ah, yes. I can see that. I think it can be ruled that way by the GM or with a discussion between player and GM. For my game, I would rule that not even magical darkness can see within the Hunger of Hadar. Mainly because anyone within the area is "blinded", meaning they have the blinded condition and devil's sight does not do anything to help with the blinded condition. If the spell was magical darkness, it would state that it is magical darkness. BUT, again, that's just my interpretation through my research on the rules. That's what's great about D&D, is that the GM and players can play it how they want to.
      Thank you for the conversation. Hope you enjoyed the video. Cheers!

      @@WallyDM I guess it depends on how you see the Darkness spell as to whether Hunger of Hadar can be seen through. No where does it state that Darkness gives the Blinded condition to someone inside of it, however the Blinded condition does state "A blinded creature can't see" which the description of darkness includes the phrase "A creature with darkvision can't see through this darkness". This sounds like the same to me, and thus one could use this argument to allow Devil's Sight to see a target inside Hunger of Hadar. But as you said, it is always up to the DM. Really like this build!

    I like the fathomless warlock, good build! When I told my group a tank character of mine would have a one-level dip in warlock, everyone assumed hexblade of course. As a tank, I'd say the most important task is to prevent your allies taking damage, and having a tentacle that slows down enemies should help with that. Alas, I haven't gotten to try out the ability yet, curses of mostly being a DM!
    Also, watch out for Arms of Hadar. The closest my players have been to a tpk was when one of them decided to use it with the other players surrounding them. The players failed their saves, while most enemies succeeded their's.

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +1

      I could definitely see the benefits of a one level dip for the tentacle. Very nice! And whoah... the Arms of Hadar needs to definitely be used with caution, lol. Thank you for watching Prippy. Cheers!

    For this build I would have went for lance of lethargy first before repealing blast. Also I would try to convince my DM to see if I can use the one dnd Goliath, use their frost giant ability to proficiency times per long rest add a d6 damage to an attack roll and slow the target by 10 feet of movement until their next turn , this way your first turn hex eldritch blast and you still lower their speed by 20 feet san next turn you can summon the tentacle of the deep. But I really like the build it's a great subclass that I think geta overlooked because of how amazing genie and hexblade are

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +2

      I could see things with Lance of Lethargy first, for sure. And, I did not see the One D&D Goliath yet, that is right on point for this build. Whoah! And, agreed. I haven't built a Hexblade yet, but I really like this Fathomless build better than the Genie I put together. I am actually looking forward to playing this build someday. Thank you for watching Glitch. Cheers!

      @@WallyDM I like your build videos a lot you not only explain your choices but your reasoning for them. This is definitely a character worth playing. Battlefield controller with slowing opponents works well for team players who use web so you don't have to miss out on an action setting up one of the Hadar spells and at 5th level you can take 10 feet of movement from 3 people in a turn basically making 3 targets have to dash to get out of a web spell really breaking their action economy ( provided you can use the one dnd Goliath otherwise it's just two people)

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +2

      @@glitchking666 Thanks Glitch! Glad to hear that you like my format on character builds. It's been a while since I've published one. I miss doing them. Good call on being a team player and combine with my allies spells. That web idea is brutal. I love it. :-)
      Q. What do you think about the Metamagic Adept feat. Would it be worth it to get one of the Hadar spells off as a bonus action?

    • @glitchking666
      @glitchking666 Год назад +1

      @@WallyDM unfortunately I don't think so, just for the tentacles of the deep feature being on a bonus action, Which you already have to delay to pop hex this the subclass of warlock that would not benefit from a quicken spell meta magic . I think this is a great support build. But leveled spell casting should be a last resort option. When you do a hecblade build they will do very well with quicken spell setting of an eldritch blast to an enemy close to your alley taking advantage of repealing blast after hitting a closer target with two attacks from your pact weapon thanks to thirsting blade

    Warlock should really get Hex as a class feature that allows you to cast it for free once per short rest and maybe have better level scaling. Perhaps an extra 1d6 at Level 5 and another 1d6 at Level 9 for its cap. Maybe that's too strong... but it eats the concentration and relies on actually hitting so is it really...?

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад

      If I'm not mistaken, this might happen in the 2024 player handbook. I know Eldritch Blast is moving to Warlock only class feature and for some reason, I thought I remember them reworking hex.

      @@WallyDM Good to know, although I've heard that they ruined the Warlock in other ways, haven't personally taken a look yet. It will be interesting to see how it ends up once One D&D gets its official release next year

      @@Isaax for one playtest document, they turned the Warlock into a half caster, which was actually really interesting, but they since walked that back and made some good changes overall. If you make a free account on D&D Beyond, you can access all the playtest material. They've got some interesting stuff, and some infuriating stuff. Hopefully Playtest 8 has helped to fix the Monk since they kinda nerfed it needlessly last go around.

    One complaint I always see with Fathomless warlock is how Fathomless Plunge is "situational." I rarely see the obvious rebuttal to this complaint.
    Look up the definition of a "Pond." It's vague but small. It could be any body of water as shallow as one foot and wider than five feet.
    You get this ability at 14th level. By 14th level your party should have access to the mold earth cantrip and a decanter of endless water.
    Make a pond. Hell. Make a pond every mile as you travel. When you get to the dungeon entrance tell the DM you need to quicksave and then make a pond.

    I love everything about the Fathomless Warlock...except their capstone. I feel it was extremely gutted from the UA. I generally ask my DM if I can use the old UA capstone and to get the option to do lightning or cold damage again from the UA. Love everything else.

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +1

      I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I didn't even look at the capstone when planning this video, lol. I'll need to go back and take a look at those higher levels. But I do love this subclass from levels 1-10. It might be my favorite so far.

    • @TyranusRex721
      @TyranusRex721 Год назад

      @@WallyDM Yeah. Level 1 to 10 is pretty much perfect. I just wish they kept the damage option of lighting or cold on the tentacle. But the capstone was absolutely gutted from being very versatile to so situational it may never come up.
