    I purchased a new Sony a6000 a couple of weeks ago and I'm blown away with what a great feature rich camera it is! I was looking for lens reviews to use with this camera body when I luckily found your detailed review of the Sigma 60mm f2.8 DN Art Lens. After watching this review I decided to purchase this lens. I received my lens in the mail today, on 12/28/2016, and gave it a test run as soon as I received it. The lens is exactly as you detailed and is indeed as amazingly sharp as you shared in your review! Your review sold me on this lens and I simply wanted to let you know I couldn't be happier with my purchase! This truly is an amazing lens!

    One of the best lens reviews I have seen for some time.......you have made me return to using this excellent lens, after it languished for a year or so in the bottom of my camera bag.....Thank You.

    Just popped for a new camera...the Sony a6000 silver. Price was a crazy $550 with kit lens, Wasabi dual battery & charger, 32 GB card & mini bag. Same thing today is like $750 plus. Cool! Now...on to the prime lens reviews...so professional with point by point detail. Excellent presentations (talking about the Sigma prime trio here). Thanks for such a good job from your newest subscriber.

    Great review, I have just purchased the Sigma 30mm and the sigma 60mm for my A6000 and they are excellent, giving me great detail on portrait photos. Keep bringing reviews on more lenses for the A6000.

    I use the M43 version of this lens, and the 19mm, and find the performance of both to be extraordinary. On a scale of 1 to 10 for value, these two score 11!

    David, thanks so much for the unbiased reviews of the sigma prime lens. I have the a6000 and its my go to camera! I shoot sony only, and have lots of a mount lens. Anyway ive been looking at the sigma lineup and after your reviews, i will be getting the lineup. Amazing lens for the money! Thanks again, Fred

    Love all the sigma art series lenses for my A6000. But the 60mm is the standout. I take a lot of shots of my family and friends while we sit in cafe's. It is perfect for portraits.

      As pretty as it is, that lens isn't destined to wear well from a resale perspective - any minor scratch is going to show badly.

    • @DiegoSartori
      @DiegoSartori 10 лет назад +1

      Agree Seth Burgess
      I would go with the all black version - but then again, the relatively low cost of the lens versus the IQ it is capable of makes me think one could live with a limited resale value.

    I recently got the 19mm Sigma 2.8 for my a5100. Amazingly sharp edge to edge and fast autofocus. I did not expect a wider angle lens to be so free of distortion and so sharp at the edges. Tip for non-sony lenses: try different autofocus modes as some modes will limit the autofocus area to a small area in the middle when using non-sony lenses.

    It's an excellent portrait lens and performs as well as any other similar optic. It's not necessary to obsess about pixels and other pointless technical issues. If you're an imaginative and reasonably able photographer, you'll enjoy this lens.

    With limited options for the Sony E mounts, the Sigmas lens are not only a great option but at fantastic value. The DXMO mark for the 60mm Sigma places it third overall against all other lenses and first for sharpness. When you consider the price, this is a must have prime lens.

    Awesome review man appreciate this! You have me looking at sigma lenses again...hopefully all the copies come out more consistent on the mirrorless line. DSLR lenses by Sigma were hit or miss for the sony alpha line back in the day I don't know if that's still the case.

    And not to forget the price. This is on special for $209 at B&H just now. Insane for this quality of glass. And I see it's near the top of the DXO list for E mount fixed focal length lenses. I'm holding out for the A7000 (my first mirrorless camera) soon to be released, but this lens will definitely be coming with it.

    with my 1670 this do not happen or earlier before exchanging Sigma 30f28 it did not happen. this happened only on this lens 60f28. I somewhat understood your question. I usually switch of the camera and attach the lens and I did the same for 60f28. sometimes it is quick and often this error happens with a total out of focus display on the LCD and also in EVF. I tried removing it and putting back on. after several tries it will focus and that AF MOTOR sound stops. Once it focuses then no problem. This problem occurs only when switch off and on

    Do you use single shot mode or continuous autofocus with the Sigma and Sony? I read that the phase detect autofocus is very limited with this lens. Thank you for your excellent commentary.

    Great review. I was a bit hesitant if this lens is any good (due to the price point mainly - I thought it should be more than that for the good lens)). But this review and some other (pointing to the sharp image and beautiful bokeh background), made it clear what lens to buy for my son to replace kit lens on his A6000. Now Sigma 60mm f2.8 EX DN Art is on its way from Japan.

    Hi, love your video's..... I just got the A6000, always uses DSLR's and now trying to get my head around using this potentially in professional situations.... I was curious what your preferred method of focusing was for portraits?.....There are so many options and points of view.... I love to have critical focus on the eye of course with nice sweet drop off from there.....I am assuming you don't just rely on auto focus? You mention portrait mode in this video but do you rely on that?

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  10 лет назад

      If I'm using this lens then face recognition or continuous af with focus tracking both work really well. Manual also works but tracking is amazing. I have admit though MF on a legacy lens is also amazingly easy with focus peaking.

    First of all I would like to thank you for those great reviews.
    I just bought only the body of Sony a6000 and now I am looking to see which lens to buy. I am not a professional and I only use the camera as a hobby and for family shooting (mostly outdoors). For the summer I was thinking to begin with the Sigma 60mm. I must say that I do a lot of pixel peeping and I like to get results as sharp as possible. 95% of photograph shooting is handheld... I do have steady hands and have experience with dSLR cameras (450D, 60D)
    Since I do a lot of handheld shooting... do you believe that the lack of OSS is going to give me less sharpness than the 50mm OSS?
    Which one do you recommend?
    Sorry if this kind of question is already answered

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  9 лет назад

      solaris2k4 The sigma 60mm is the sharpest lens for e-mount. OSS does help but not much and does shut off while bursting. Here is my list of worthy lenses. www.lavikkaphotography.com/blog

So far I found that the image stabilisation or camera shake and eye focus don't work on a none sony lens, I`v looked at other videos no one seems to mention this, And the Manual is as much use as a fridge to a escemo!!!!! Keep up the good work.

    Hi- I'm very amateur and love my sony a6000. I just purchased this lens thanks to your great review. I have a question-this may be obvious, but can I zoom in with this lens? Up until now I've been using the kit lens and it's got easy zooming on the actual lens. Can I also zoom in/out with the sigma 60mm? Also, any idea how I can set the aperture to 2.8? It seems my camera has automatic aperture adjusting and I want to keep the aperture at the best portrait setting. Thanks!

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  6 лет назад

      It's not a zoom however you can enable digital zoom to get it to crop in a bit but the results won't be good. To change the aperture you have to put the camera on either manual or aperture priority.

    I just bought the A6000 and I used to use a Nikon d90 with the 35 and 50 1.8 primes. Im having crazy thoughts and worries about the size of this thing its soo small. Do you think the sigma primes i.e 30 f2.8 and the 60 f2.8 are as good as the Nikon glass i have been using.
    I have been considering selling the Sony A6000 and go back to the Nikon but I keep seeing reviews like yours showing how good this thing is. Im not sure what to do.

Basically the Sigma lenses are very sharp and fast autofocus for the price. Maybe the new Sigma 30mm 1.4 will be sharp along with its larger opening?

      forget these lenses,i bought a canon fd 50mm f1.4 with adapter for like 50$,and it's amazing it's so easy to use manual lenses in sony mirrorless lineup and it's so much fun.it's so sharp in F2 and killer bokeh,after this(my first manual) i will always looking for sharp and good manual lenses like samyang 85mm f 1.4

    Thank you so much for your amazing video. I'm so confused what to buy. The 60mm or the 30mm. What are the differences? Which is better to use in general propose shooting, specially indoor and in low light situations?
    And finally, should I buy Sigma lenses or get the "Sony SEL50F18/B 50mm f/1.8" Does it really worth the extra 100$ only for OSS? Although the Sigma is sharper (am I correct, Sigma is sharper than Sony)??

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  10 лет назад +1

      The sigma is sharper in the corners. They are about the same in the middle. The 60 is more of a portrait lens. The sony 50 is good in low light with the oss. My issue with the sony is it's so soft wide open.

    Hi Davin! I was wondering what are your thoughts of the Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS? It seems to be a very good rival with the sigma 60mm yet I cant seem to find any videos with a comparison anywhere online but would really love to see one.
    I hear the Bokeh is better on the 50mm but I wonder how much. Im also curious how the 50mm performs with the OSS compared to the 60mm w/out it.

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  10 лет назад

      Hi Andrew I had one before I started the reviews. I found rather disappointing. Very similar to the 35mm I did review. Wide open is soft and it has ghosting so hard to auto focus at f1.8 at f2.8 things get a lot better, sharp center with soft corners and its like that throughout the f stops in the lens. It is a good portrait lens. The oss does work but it only saves a little over a stop. smooth's out video a little. The 60 is sharper and has far better corners. The 50 has exaggerated bokeh like the 35mm. The only problem with that is wide open they are full of bokeh fringing.
      Here is a review for you www.photozone.de/sony_nex/720-sony50f18nex

    • @dream88power

      Lavikka Photography Hey thanks for the reply Davin. I notice I tend to take more portrait and Macro shots(of pendants and such) so the bokeh is a welcome feature. Is shooting wide open ideal for portrait Or will that be too shallow to get the subjects whole head in focus? What is the ideal Fstop for that? Im quite torn between having that extra bokeh with the sony's 1.8 or the sharpness of sigmas 2.8 lens.. i heard somewhere that you wont be able to discern the sharpness between the two until you crop in closer.

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  10 лет назад

      I would go wide open for portraits on the 60 and stop down once the 50mm. The 50mm is ideal for people but sucks for macro because of the lack of dof. They are cheap. just get both and return the one you don't like.

    Hi Lavikka and thank you for your videos.
    I have a question for you, i have a sony nex7, and i have buy this lenses Sigma 60mm, because i trust you review, and i like it very.
    I like to take photos of my kids, and they don't stop one minute, so on Sony nex7 autofocus it's not very fast so i have many blur photos.
    I like to buy the Sony A6000, because they say autofocus it's very fast.
    My question is, do you think that A6000 + this sigma 60mm is fast enough to take kids photos ? track kids when they move or run ? Sony nex7 is not good for this. Will i see great increase between a6000 and sony nex7 with these lens ?
    Because i heard that A6000 with non sony lenses (like this sigma) are not so fast. Do you confirm , or should i buy A6000 and expect a big difference?
    You only show video focus, so i can not see in internet photos with movement with this lenses . How they behave a6000 + Sigma 60mm
    thank you

    Really stuck if i should get the Sigma 60mm 2.8 or the Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS for my next lens. I know the Sigma is sharper than the sony, but im wondering if the 1.8 and OSS will make it a more versatile lens and be more useful in low light.
    Does anyone have experience of both of these lenses? If so which is the better buy?

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  10 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't even consider the 50mm OSS. It ghosts a lot wide open. The Sony 55mm OSS for full frame is so much better and works fine on the a6000. OSS gives you a two stop advantage in hand held and helps with video but honestly for the money the Sigma is the way to go. It's lighter so hand holding is easy down to a 10th of sec.

      +Adam Strachn If you are talking about walking around and shooting mainly people then you have to realize this is the equivalent of a 90mm lens in a 35mm camera. It is a bit of a zoom. Great for shooting from a bit of distance or extreme close-ups. It would all depend on your style if you would go with this or a wider angle lens like the 30mm or 19mm. Look at the video and you can see how zoomed in the image is when he shoots video to demonstrate the autofocus.

    Hi,
    Nice explanation in better approach.
    I am your new subscriber.. So would like to ask a question on Sony a6000 ..
    I recently brought A6000 and i liked it with kit lens. But i am mainly interested in sharpness and clarity. I always use A6000 on hands, based on your review of Sigma 30 1.4 f DC lens i got one today. But many of my pictures are not sharp because handling with hands. If i shoot very steadily then only pictures are coming sharp.. my main purpose is shooting in indoor, taking pictures of my 1.5 years old daughter and for parties.
    So what do you recommend for me or any one who handles A6000 with hands.. Is it Sony 35 mm 1.8 or Sigma 30 mm DC DN 1.4 (Currently have but after seeing the pictures got into dilemma)..
    50 mm Sony 1.8 OSS or Sigma 60 mm 2.8..
    Note: i don't use tripod. Only hands.
    I appreciate your response.
    Thank you

    • @LavikkaPhotography
      @LavikkaPhotography  8 лет назад

      The 30mm f1.4 should be fine. Change the auto focus setting to afc - Continuous AF.

    • @cutegoutham0022
      @cutegoutham0022 8 лет назад

      Thanks for your response...
      I only use AF-C or Manual.. All the photos which i took with Sigma 30 1.4 was with AF-C only.. 5 of 3 shots got blurry.. One thing to mention if i did not zoom the picture looks fine but if i zoom i can see the small blur of the objects..
      Is it common for every lens or its my handling problem..?
      Also you aware that when doing back button focus lens makes sound.. Whole lot going on in my mind..
      This is my first Camera and Sigma 30 1.4 is my first prime lens. I watched your review like more than 20 times before buying. So my expectation from this lens went to peaks..
      Thank you

    • @LavikkaPhotography

      sounds like a handling issue. Test yourself and see what the slowest speed you can take a picture at. for me its 30th of sec if im impatient and 10th of sec if I have time.

    New subscriber question for you. Do you know if the Eye AF detection works with this lens? My understanding is that it's a contrast-based system and it would... like on the Sony RX100 mark iv.

    Is there some significant difference from the Sigma 50mm 2.8 and the 60mm besides the focal length?

      +Sole Island It has a bokeh to it. to shoot are car though you will have to get back a bit. unless you want it for detail shots.

      +Lavikka Photography so if i stand back a bit to take a photo of the car it will still come out detailed and sharp right

    Thinking about this for my Nex-3. Is the lack of OSS a dealbreaker? I'm used to shooting with OSS with the SEL35f18 and kit lens.
