- During the pandemic, many people battled through loneliness and depression. We were trapped in our homes with no way to leave. It was a new and strange way of living that we had to adjust to. Even going outside felt like a privilege. Personally, I did not struggle during covid because of my family and friends. But some people were not afforded the luxury of having friends and a safe family to be around. In turn, they found themselves alone. And to be alone, I might imagine is a battle. This film is about that loneliness. Additionally, It is about confronting yourself and overcoming and accepting what you are fearing. In this film, Jason, overcomes the dreadfulness of being alone and accepts solidarity.
I made this film with my own blood, my brother. So, It means a lot to me to make something with someone I love and someone who I have grown up with.
They say that the best friend you will ever have ... is yourself.
Loneliness is actually killing me for real. It's slow but it's real.

Being alone helps you attempt to conquer your mind, emphasis on “attempt”. I came out realising that the real “you” is always alone. This body needs people, it needs company but the real you that exists beyond a mortal coil is always there by itself. So, I’m always alone even when there is company. Most people never realise this.

There is a big difference between being alone and being lonely (feeling emotionally isolated, unwanted) . Spending time alone is therapeutic and healthy. We have to allow ourselves time in solitude seeking some space and quiet each day. Being lonely is not healthy or therapeutic. We are by nature a social species evolved to live in small groups, to touch each other, talk to each other, and bond. Loneliness is exhausting, and painful, the psycho-social equilivant of living with constant dull headache. Loneliness increases incidence of anxiety, stroke, depression, and dementia and its a serious condition that is now becoming an epidemic.

Very moving and creative. It made me think of the book, “Solitude- A Return to the Self” by Anthony Storr. “True health and happiness is ultimately based upon the ability to live in peace with oneself”.
This really stuck with me. Like genuinely, every scene is a memory i vividly remember doing as well. incredibly well-made video. when i first watched it, i only had my right earbud on and thought Jason wasn't speaking. i just thought it interesting how every form of socialization and action (whether talking or typing) is done on the side, but it's the music itself that takes the control of the audio -- the music itself being that universal language of loneliness. Honestly, the emotional weight that music brings was exactly what clouded my entire head, before, during, and after Covid. But it's why I turned to literature to fill up those lonely hours, because it both felt like talking to the author and sitting with the characters they have written.
To all the lonely people out there, you're amazing. Thank you for this incredible video, Luke. Jake played the role beautifully. Hope the best for you two!

i think loneliness/solitude is something that we don't talk about, I always wanted to read a book or a thesis about it. I'm someone that experience a lot of loneliness sometime in his life, and i think it is fascinating how ppl coop w that and some don't.
Yes, I agree, besides loneliness there's other things people don't talk about unfortunately, that's our society. A good movie to watch is Edward Scissorhands by Tim Burton. It's very sad and it resonated with me. Check it out!
Research the forbidden experiment. Psychologists have already concluded that being alone from birth or early childhood is too unethical to actually do any experiments with.
Feral children, like Edward Scissorhands that the other commenter mentioned, is the closest we can get to understanding the impact loneliness has on the psyche. Except, definitely read about real feral children.
You've got Talent. I love this. It shows a hitherto unspoken side of a typical man's life. We men always have to face our significant battles alone. This is a side of our existence no one ever sees. We are all alone. Even if you are in a crowd of people you are still alone. If you are in a relationship you are still your own individual person , so you are still alone. People depend on others to much. They don't want to be alone so they are needy. Accept that you have to be responsible for your own happiness.

the girl in my class who was in Emotional distress and feeling loneliness itself dislikes to make friendship with me. she too was listening to songs about loneliness.

Humans have evolved to be pack animals. But in my opinion, this was due to physical survival (hunting, building, fighting, gathering etc) As a result, we have become socially interdependent. In the 21st century, I dont think its as critical as most of us are connected to features (food at the ready, internet, mass transit, telephones) that involve less human interaction. We still need each other but its not as dire as once was.

Being alone definitely restores you and can heal you from this crazy world. But, fake it till you feel it. Smile and speak to people. Look up. There is much to see and learn.

I also know that loneliness forced by the outside world (pandemic, for example) can generate suffering.
But solitude by choice can have countless benefits. Only by knowing ourselves, accepting ourselves, loving ourselves, will we be able to interact socially with more patience, tranquility, sincerity, empathy...
And there's more: we will die alone. Even on a crashing aircraft with 300 passengers, we may even scream together; but our deaths will be individual.
