This looks like a very satisfying game! Thank you for sharing. I'm liking everything I'm hearing. All the good elements I enjoy in a great game. Great review as always, my friend. P.S. that Heretic footage brought good memories. Thank you
This is a certified steam review moment. Lol, there are so many people clueless about thing they watch/play that I stopped reading reviews altogether, except from people I know have similar taste. Like you!
Yes, it's reviews like the ones I mentioned that make you not believe in user reviews at all. I used to trust the lengthier more elaborate ones... but those can be way off too.
@@YeOldEntertainment Yeah, I‘ve been in lurking mode for a while! This video forced me out of hiding though! XD I have a feeling I might fall in love with it, and your perspective is always super helpful!
I love this game. It oozes a fantastic style, atmosphere, and great art. My only issue is that I want the lingering major bugs fixed. IMO it is well worth the asking price. Edit: I can see this title becoming a cult classic.
Glad you're looking at the game from a different point of view and are highlighting gameplay mechanics other reviewers missed. I've been on the fence on this game but you convinced me.
I’d love to give this game a try but the bad reviews scared me off. Plus someone online said the ps5 port is totally fucked and I don’t want to risk it for $30.
Well the current PC version is pretty stable and it goes for 12.49 on steam. And the requirements aren't even that great (though the cinematics are poorly optimized). I think roughly 60% of the negative reviews come from people who expected this game to be some sort of modern-day Hexxen. A boomer shooter even, perhaps. That's not what the game is. But yeah. make sure it's for you by watching videos and footage. Check out splattercat's video on it too.
I am glad to see a positive review for the game that talks about the spells being actually good as I only read they were bad until I read on a steam forum that you had to upgrade them for them to be good and after that I just decided to try it out and am having a blast. I tend to only play magic casters in games so I went full spell weapons: spellbook, orthogonal hymnal, writ of subjugation, and then for when I am low on mana 1 strong gun until I got the Candelbra which completed my wizard kit and this is working really well. I have upgraded all of them maxed except the ice spell, barely ever have to use the gun because I usually have Equalizing elixirs and enemies drop tons of mana. I also didnt go into this thinking it would be like Hexen which I really enjoyed. Game is just good fun and spells are good just got to spend the gold but I only wanted to use magic weapons so not a waste for me.
The thing is that you cannot play "only spells" in this game This is not a "build-based" game. Spells are CRAZY good but you need to figure out when, where and how to use them to get the best results. For examples, skellies and cultists are extremely weak to fire. Constructs and knights get super slow when you use cold on them, so you can use your frost spell on them and then strike them easily with your flail (which is slow but does superb damage to plate wearing enemies) And lightning is perfect to shock fast zig-zaggie enemies in place so that you can then finish them of with your staff or sword. Magic is not a substitute for weapons most of the times, they are complimentary.
@@YeOldEntertainment Yeah I agree I tend to use the magic themed weapons in tandem with the three spells, I do see the orthogonal hymnal and writ of subjugation as being catalysts that cast a specific spell. I have been playing the whole game this way and its very effective the enemies tend to drop mana pretty often plus some enemies drop Equalizing elixirs as well. I only use the other weapons when I am low on mana which gets less and less often the more I figure out how to use the orthogonal hymnal and writ of subjugation depending on enemy. Remember I do have all the magic weapons maxed save for the ice spell which is lvl 2 atm, this is probably not the intended way to play but it works well and I am enjoying it a ton. I would say the "builds" are pretty much what you decide to upgrade and use. Sorry for the long chat thx for the review didnt expect a reply so soon.
Justice for Graven! I was interested in this game since the first time I saw it. The negative reviews were disheartening. Luckily, I watched a couple that were positive too and this one convinced me to buy it! That spoiler was instructional. I actually appreciate it!

Thx for your opinion....i didn't know what to expect form the game Now it it makes more sense to me, make me to want more to see from the game.... Your opinion was for me mind-blowing and thats why i am going to buy this game for my ps5 Thank you for a such hidden gem :)
Very interesting review! Feel fresh to hear something new In difference to nej sayers. I've only played Graven for about an hour, and I thought it had something new and fresh! The environment felt interesting. Something I haven't felt for a long time in games.
I tried it, had a hard time with it. Not what I expected, I expected more of a immersive sim with streamlined gameplay. But it is a interesting game and this video makes me wanna try it out again. EDIT: The Theme played in this video, like at imnute 15. I recognize it! Where have I heard it? Is it Gravens?
I really appreciate you not parroting what others have said and forming your own opinion

Thanks! I hope you enjoy it!
I couldnt agree more, just picked this game up and I couldnt understand the hate surrounding it.
5:57 What is this from lol ?
Half-a$$ed Disney film: The Swap.
Keep in mind they've been patching this game like crazy since release.
Since when not liking equal hate? I'm sure smearing people with opposite view will do this game good...

At this day and age if someone's talking about your game at all you can count it as a success.
I bought it on gog and im really enjoying it, but yeah its not hexen
I was actually surprised at how much I ended up liking it after reading all the negative reviews.

Yes. All the music in that video is from Graven.
@@YeOldEntertainment Thanks! I should pick it up again and give it a go.
I dont care what the reviews say iam so looking forward to play this game when it finally arrives on Nintendo Switch.
To be honest, I'm glad it isn't Hexen or Heretic. The aesthetics are there and I enjoyed the game. Then you will have fun.
Kings field it's more like kings field but faster
Ah dammit! yes, this is true. Would've been the perfect reference.
The game is awesome, reminds me a lot of Hexen in addition to adding something new.
Yes it is. But I think it has different vibes.
I will give the game a try.
