When I was a kid, my Mum used to watch me play Zelda. She took it up and she'd wake me up in the middle of the night on weekends to ask me to help her figure out where to go. After a few years she found out about Fable. She demolished Fable. 😂 All three games, was awesome at them. Made a fortune in each one, got different endings, etc. I'd come home from school and I'd hear the familiar sounds coming from my room, the heater on and I'd have to encourage her to get off so I could play my own games. 😂 I don't like Fable too much, but it gave me a lot of time with my mum just chilling out and playing games. It means a lot to me for that.
I love that I grew up playing the tomb raider games on the PS1 with my mum. She'd hand the controller to me for jumping, acrobatic parts and combat. While she would do all the exploring and puzzles. Cherished memories
Honestly this was my favourite Fable for the reason of the monotonous jobs and buying and renting becoming a corrupt landlord lol. I dunno things were different in 2008 so that was groundbreaking, like a 3rd person sims game.
For me, 2 was what I was expecting 1 to be. I spent way too much time building my real estate empire after getting my seed money blacksmithing. If only this was on PC
I always skipped the blacksmithing and other jobs - I would buy weapons at the blacksmith and then sell them to the travelling merchants in Fairfax gardens. By the time Theresa gets to the tower for that meeting you would have enough money to buy the blacksmith
My fondest memory of this game was cheesing the renting system by skipping the console's time forward 100 years with maxed out rent, accumulating millions of gold and max negative karma, then going back and making all my properties free before skipping another 100 years and gaining back max positive karma. This game was great.
I'm thinking that since you're this far and the fact that the series is being rebooted, might as well finish it out. Plus, gives us more content from you, and that's never a bad thing
@@KoGFathom Fable 2 was the perfect mix of everything. Fable 3 made all the mechanics really stupid and although they may of been onto something with being a ruler and making decisions it really wasnt that well executed.
I replayed fable 2 recently and one of the things that struck me the most was how long you we're in the spire. I remembered it as 4 years, when i got back and Theresa said "10 years" my jaw dropped and i was like "thats way too absurd"
Stephen Fry as Reaver had me absolutely DYING! "My lover, Penelope, set my house on fire while I was sleeping...with Andrew, as I recall. A delightful young man, Andrew. Though such a heavy sleeper." Reaver was just such an unapologetic douchebag (with a seriously dark backstory) and Fry pulled him off flawlessly.
Oh my God. I just put that together that reaver is Stephen Fry. Playing Fable2 I couldn't ever put my finger on who voiced reaver but I knew it was someone awesome lol.
@@joshuaolsen6509He’s a guy the game tells you to hate but you just can’t hate him no matter how hard you try. The guy is as charming as he is hilarious.
I remember liking so many details from Fable 2 when it came out- the 1600/1700's aesthetic and guns in a fantasy setting were a unique change from the typical medieval fantasy fare, and seeing how familiar locations in Albion had evolved over time was a treat. But your video just reminded me of how frustratingly short the game was. The "final boss battle" with Lucien was even more disappointing than shown here- if you play a second time and don't immediately shoot Lucien once you regain control to hear his monologue, Reaver just one-shots him instead.
That happened to me on my first time. :D I hated Reaver for that. I wanted to see Lucien squirm, and Reaver just stole my kill. What a terrible character, who burdens the player more than anyone else. :D
@@MaxiemumKarnage - I can definitely see why it would be incredibly frustrating, especially to kids as young as I was when I played through it first. But now as an adult, I gotta admit, I at least like that it is thematic to the character and is a cool bit of flavor to the overall story narative. As an adult, I have grown to give more consideration to other elements of the games I play than just the literal game mechanics. I mainly play games with story and choices so that would make sense.
The length would've been fine if the story was jam-packed with plot twists, revelations, character development, etc. But even the main story feels like a massive fetch quest. Get 3 heroes, shoot Lucien, the end. The protagonist is a plank of wood (so was the F1 guy but this is a sequel, it's supposed to be an improvement), Theresa is just spoopy mysterious, Hammer is kind of boring, Garth is alright but doesn't get enough screen time, Reaver is pretty great and Lucien, again, doesn't get enough screen time (he had potential to be a good antagonist).
@@shorewall Reaver definitely is such a better character in 3. All he does is talk about how great of a shot he is while you kill everyone escaping his mansion in Bloodstone. It's so annoying. Although, I do recognize the year the game was released and that games in general have gotten so much better about that stuff. Like how a character interrupting another character actually is an interruption now and not an awkward pause between the two actors voices playing lol
One thing I remember loving about Fable II was how Old town Bowerstone, and Oakfield, changed depending on your choices. It felt like they tried to follow through on their promises from the first game, of an "evolving world", but it still felt a little flat.
@@jeremyrosal6049 yea. its a shame the OG lionhead aren't making the game. They were so ambitious. obviously people were always upset because they would overpromise but i dont think they didn't follow through because they were lazy or just wanted a quick pay check. I really miss that studio.
@@thomasjoychild4962I thought that they were the same actress . They sound just alike , also the fable 1 hero is the ancestor of the fable 2 hero while the fable 2 hero is the father/mother of the fable 3 hero .
I never really saw it as a good/evil dichotomy either. I always played violent psychopaths in this game and the idea that I'd just do as I was told was an anathema to me, regardless of consequence. It's not like EXP is hard to come by anyway given how much they give you.
Let me rewrite the spire for yall the way I see it. The hero upon being reminded that the spire exists, decides to attack it. They swim there in like 10 minutes, and rise out of the water. Those within say stupid things like "never should have come here". But they are all cut down by the hero's rusty butter knife. The hero finds morgan freeman the wizard, and the wizard breaks his own slave collar. The hero then cuts down everyone else in the spire and throws Luscian off the top of it. He swims home with morgan freeman on his back. The End.
As Jank as this game is there's just a charm around the entire experience. It's one of my favourite games and after countless replays I still find new things
As a child, my family was really big into Oblivion on the 360 My mom, while shopping for Christmas present, saw Fable 2, made the fantasy correlation between them, and got it for us A few months later, I got to Bloodstone, and my mom heard a bunch of shouting at the TV for someone to leave me alone She came in and asked who was bothering me And out of the mouth of her, at the time, 8 year old child came the words "Cindy the Whore"
Wish they'd port this to PC it isn't perfect but honestly my favorite of the three. Legit all your gripes 100% correct in my opinion. I really don't understand why I vibe with the game so much.
@@sooners2037 not a great port and needs some tinkering in game files but it is super awesome to play og Fable with built in controller support. I meant Fable 2 specifically since it never got ported to PC.
I consider Fable 2 my all-time second favorite game. It is easily the most immersive RPG I've played. Just about everything you do in the game has an effect on either the world or the people around you. From eating an apple, putting on a bandit shirt or just killing someone. It all affects something, whether it be the town economy or people's disposition towards you. No other RPG has made me think deeply about what food my character eats or what clothing they wear.
I love this game. I know it's janky, buggy, and can at times feel like it's insulting your intelligence, but it is just such a comfy experience from start to finish. And sometimes just turning my brain off and laughing at kicking chickens can be just what I need. Next up "Was Fable 3 as bad as I remember?" (yes)
Comfy is the perfect word for it. When you are sick and have to lay in bed and it’s snowy outside and you gotta cup of tea (just for the vibe) and throw on fable 2… greatest thing ever. I rarely play it without just spending 8 hours going from start to finish
Fable is a strange trilogy of games in the way that they progressively took more and more features out of the game and made the gameplay itself more shallow. Fable 3 is probably definitely the worst. But you should still do it.
Fable 2 still had some new and welcome features, like town economies, corruption/purity alignments, many different types of ranged weapons, etc... Then Fable 3 either removed them or severely dumbed them down.
I was hoping you’d continue the Fable series! As someone who’s never played the games your experiences with the first one was really informative, curious to see how the second compares to it
Honestly.. Fable 3 was my favourite.. Although it literally is liiike criminally short. But the features are nice. Like how you can buy houses and change ya appearance are wicked features..
I liked Fable 2. It was very shallow, but it was carried by it's charm. And the combat was fun and satisfying, in part 3 they took everything that was fun feeling out of the combat. Also really liked part 2's wraiths and remember doing the smithing mini game for hours each new savegame when I first entered Bowerstone market
Would love to hear you talk about Fable 3. There is a lot of material there for you to talk about! Especially the “King” gameplay! P.S. Zombie Lady Grey is the best Waifu!
Fable 3 is worth a play. It actually has a different story, its still full of stupid plot holes but its fairly interesting and is worth playing at least once
I agree, it's still my least favorite of the trilogy, but it's grown on me alot, when it originally released I hated it for real but after years of having no fable going back it still is fable and it's charm is there it's just such a departure from the series. Fable has always been a rags to riches story in a way more of a weak to strong but yoy also gain wealth in the time, in fable 3 there is none, you're a good swordsman, a princess or prince and you have fame everyone knows you already. There isn't really anything to gain, your powers are handed to you with a gauntlet, you can't really customize your character like the first and second.
This was the first game I played that made me realise what kind of games I like. I have played both fable 2 and 3 at least 25 times each. I will always love these games. I replayed both of them recently and now that I've been gaming for 10 years I see that they're a bit lacking but I still love them
@MACizera Your argument is garbage for one simple reason, many and i mean MANY of these old games did several things in a billion times better than modern games, just go see any comparison between the first Deus Ex and Human Revolution. By the way, for a "gamer" you sure does not know anything, my name is a reference to a game, fool.
If you haven't had a chance to play the original yet, i would recommend it. Check out Molyneux's Black and White 2 if you can. It's very difficult to acquire nowadays though, but I loved it.
Definitely do Fable 3. I love hearing your take on games i grew up playing. I find myself nodding along through most of your videos as you say exactly what I thought when I played these games.
I like how the old part of Bowerstone can be rich or decrepit depending on your deeds as a child, whether you supported the evil characters or the lawful ones.
The reason why the dialog is paused. At the beginning, during that final tutorial mission, is because there's a character upstairs in that House. And the dialog doesn't start until the character walks outside on the balcony. Some. Character gets stuck behind the door and the dialog doesn't begin. So you're sitting there waiting for the character to get into the position so it can start its dialog.
Pre-Skyrim days, I poured a lot of hours into Fable II. The game wasn’t perfect but it opened my mind to what RPG’s were and could be as someone who primarily played FPS’s. Gonna dive in right now.
I really like this kind of long videos, i havent played a lot of the games you talk, but its still interesting hearing what you think, or how you would make it better. Hoping to see Fable 3
The loss of xp in the prison never mattered when you have, you know, ALL THE MONEY YOU COULD EVER NEED TO JUST BUY POTIONS TO REPLACE THAT XP. That being said, I fucking love this game.
If you have recently upgraded your will/strength/agility it will remove the upgrade when you lose XP, which can be a pain in the ass if you’re trying to use stop time to avoid getting scars~
I think there are diary entries in the game for Reaver which shed more light on what happened to Oakvale AND himself. A lot of it is just VERY strongly implied, but never stated outright. Spoilers ahead: It's implied that HE summoned the Shadow Court to strike a bargain with them to gain immortality due to his overwhelming fear of death. It's implied that either something went wrong with the ritual or that the amount of sacrifices needed to bring the Shadow Court to Albion was MUCH higher than he'd anticipated. Either way, it brought disaster to Oakvale. He decided that what he'd done to Oakvale was an irredeemably evil act & so he decided to embrace being evil instead of turning back. Eventually, he became the depraved hedonist the fans know him to be in Fable II & III. Some notes also talk about how he still has nightmares from the disaster, but he dismisses them & insists that he's not the same scared man that he used to be. Interestingly (according to various notes in the Cursed Snowglobe version of Oakvale), the town apparently had a few dark secrets of its own before disaster struck as well. It's implied that Chesty was "born" there when some elementary school kids murdered one of their classmates & put her into a (unbeknownst to them) magic treasure chest. The notes in the town & a series of puzzles leading to "Chesty's Tea Party" all allude to this. The implicitly cursed "Knights Aberrant" from the Terry Cotter's Army Demon Door were also housed in Oakvale for a time according to some notes & indicated by similar looking empty suits of armor. It seems that the Shadow Cult had also set up shop either in or near Oakvale before the disaster which might imply that Reaver was one of them!
My actual biggest complaint is that you can't savescum choices, which forced them to remove DEATH in case you got trapped in a dungeon with no potions. My other biggest complaint with Fable 2 is that the Cleaver item type became just normal meatcleavers instead of basically one handed mini-buster-swords from 1. The second most annoying part is how your character seemed unable to actually belt their clothes on tight so once you hit a certain tier of muscle you just got FAT.
The game punishes the character not the player. I never had an issue with that. I don’t want to delete a character or have to go hours back in progress because I didn’t save. You’re a hero. Maybe a rubbish fighter and an idiot for not sticking up on potions or food, but still a hero.
@@DIEGhostfish actually believe it or not it’s insulin. HGH makes your jaw and bone structure larger similar to what was seen with Zac Effron but on a lesser level. Insulin abuse causes that nasty ass gut
Reaver is actually an awesome character when you read his diary pages. His bargain with the Shadow Court is what led to the eventual (re)destruction of Oakvale. A passage reads: "Then I see him running madly through fields, the realization of just what price he has unwittingly paid hanging like a tragedy mask from his face. He falls to his knees before the town he called home-- now a dark circus of screams. Hers is among them, but he can do nothing to stop it." He was also responsible for killing pirate convoys and sending their heads in a bag to Captain Dread. Although they could have announced this in the story instead of you having to find it through his diary.
Honestly, it hits home a much different way when they make him so boastful and prideful in the story beats but the extra snooping reveals just how much deeper it goes for his character.
I think it makes him much more interesting because this was a deal that he would never speak about openly with anyone, and it makes the world seem bigger by having the player go out of their way to find out why Reaver is the way he is. In the public eye he is a roguish man who will sell out an entire family, in private he is a mourning fool who made a terrible deal without reading the fine print
Ya know the one gaming question I've never googled is "are Theresa and Kreia voiced by the same person?" and of course it's a Salt video that answers it.
It’s amazing how similar they sound. Especially when both characters are so much alike. Both Manipulative Blind Old Women who are on your side yet have their own agendas and use everyone (yourself included) to achieve that goal.
I remember being so mad that we couldn't do anything to Reaver, I actually liked Barnum. Plus the fucker will steal your kill if you decide to let Lucian ramble. and that only continued into 3 (with the implication that he killed Garth along the way)- he could have made for a neat bonus boss in 3 if we decided enough is enough.
Firaxis confirmed Reaver was lying about killing Garth. They confirmed that he TRIED to kill Garth so I suppose the implication is that Garth beat him and Reaver was embarrassed as a result and started lying about killing him since Garth was in Samarkand and never coming back to say different.
On Theresa being missed during the abduction, it was actually implied that she either worked with Lucien or at least manipulated him. In one of his diary extracts, a throw away line says he saw a blind hooded figure. When Hammer asks where is Theresa Lucien simply responds: "You're blind friend? I simply listened" Sooo... you're idea actually did happen
Fable 2 may be a flawed game, but it means so much to me. It was a game I played numerous times growing up and I get so emotional whenever I hear Danny Elfman and Russell Shaw' OST just because it takes me back to the my younger days.
Same here, this was one one of my all time favorites growing up. It is kind of a funny experience feeling so nostalgic while salt rants about how bad it is.
One of the first games I remember playing in which "choice" was a factor, would go on to love the RPG genre. Also, still recall getting freaked out when my character started getting fat and veins, and then horns on an evil run.
@@oofsong9496 exactly!! I made my character a DYEL skinny guy because when I gained a lot of muscle I was like wtf I look like a chubby strongman not a lean ripped athletic guy. Very bad choice it was awful to look at.
The waiting for lines to load is actually the characters walking to where their script says they should be. Sometimes they get stuck on tables and stuff. It's super annoying, but less so when you realize it's supposed to be a touch of reality and not just teleporting characters to the next scripted spot
@@johnw8578 it's not super common. But it does happen most frequently with the example he used in the video. Most of the time the mother is downstairs when the script starts
So, important note on the DLC. Back in the day, they had "DLC demos" available in the store, but if you used them, you would probably brick your save. The demos were massive. The descriptions were vague, so you were led to believe there was a significant amount of content in these demos. There wasn't. They added a couple NPCs and items. Everything else was locked out, apparently the idea was that the demos were the full DLCs, just locked out until you purchased them. However, if you're not an idiot, as soon as you realized these demos were just bloat, you would uninstall them. Except, once you did, you could no longer load any save you had played since installing them. The game had no way to handle the fact that content was now missing. Problem was, the two demos together added up to like 800 MB, which wasn't a problem on newer models, but the old models only came with 20 GB HDDs (and effectively, more like 17 GB). So the demos, in effect, only really existed to hold your save hostage. Teenage me was absolutely malding when I found that out.
Never really thought about how similar the plot is to the first game before this. I haven’t played the game in many years but I remember being quite captivated by the game. I was especially fond of the atmosphere in many of the areas in the game and I’ll never forget the Winter Lodge.
When I first discovered the Winter Lodge, the second I entered the lodge and it changed scenery, I clipped through the floor and was falling infinitely in the empty void... I still don't know how I did that, but I've been wary of the lodge ever since.
The whole effort in the beginning with finding a console, game and functioning controllers hahaha.. I felt that. Kudos to you! I came here from your Skyrim videos, and was super delighted to find Fable videos :D will go through more of your content now, because not only do I love your editing and commentary, but also the usage of music here and there.. and your way of talking just reels me in! Thanks for your hard work
Fable 2 will easily stay as one of my favourite games of all times, my nostalgia probably blinds me but i replayed all the fables recently and fable 2 was by far my favourite, could replay it so many times again like I did when i was 9 when it first came out.
I remember having a blast with this game too when I was a kid and I could probably have fun with some parts of it again but I honestly can't see myself sitting through shooting 50 gargoyles or doing 100 "kiss my ass" expressions for some random demon door again.
It’s a toss up between 2 and 3 for me. 3 definitely holds your hand a little in that I feel it’s much easier, but I don’t mind it. I like feeling like some op hero character. I also like the magic mechanic in 3 way way more. Although the sword fighting and shooting is better in fable 2 I feel. It’s more simple, but I think it works better. Sometimes simpler is better. Overall the nostalgia, and story of fable 2 probably edges it out a little for me. My favorite part of 3 was the magic, and siding with reever on all of the king/queen choices and watching the treasury grow 😆. I like how they brought him back but it would have been cool to maybe see Garth or hammer as well.
I remember them so fondly, especially Fable 2. It was my favorite game through a lot of my childhood. I haven't had anything Xbox in years sadly, and I won't bother playing through 1 if I can't play through 2, but they never made a PC or PS port so I'm kind of stuck. 😔
Yeah, you should definitely play three. Being king and picking what happens to certain places and people is an interesting aspect that I bet many are curious to know your opinion on. :)
Surprised to see a "walk speed matching" mechanic for scenes where you walk with an NPC so early. Seems even weirder to me now more games don't do this.
This is really freaky, just finished replaying Fable 2 this week AND I literally rewatched your Fable 1 video yesterday, in other words I couldn't have asked for a better video today :)
This, Fallout 3, and Dead Space hold special places in my heart. These games were the ones I co-op played with my uncle before he died. Use to switch off who was playing every hour. Editing to add that I honestly enjoyed three maybe a little more than one and two. The brother being more of a tragic villain trying to do everything he could to protect his people, and when your character comes in to power, you get pressed to make the same decisions to get your people safe if you can't afford it on your own.
This video really makes the case for bringing 2 & 3 to Steam. The first game and the Anniversary edition of 1 is so it’s weird the sequels aren’t. Also I’d like to point out that with the Commandant you get back all EXP you lost doing good after you kill him in the escape sequence.
2 was never released on PC, unfortunately. And yeah, for some reason 3 was removed from Steam. And that was before I did anything with Steam so I missed out.
I remember being evil and having lady grey fall in love with me and as soon as the quest finishes she would just bug out and instantly scream and run away from me on account of my being horrifying evil. She wouldn’t even talk to me haha 😂 Not quite the romance I was hoping for!!
Love the video, the humor, and all the effort that goes into making it, as always. I just feel like you were a bit hard on this game. A lot of your gripes might have something to do with your particular Xbox I think. I've never experienced half of the issues you laid out. Regardless of whether or not I agree, I always watch start to finish. You make good stuff man.
I remember playing on original 360 hardware and it definitely has these problems. If you played on Xbox One or later then probably the extra horsepower reduced that for you.
Fable 2 is my favorite fable out there I love every about it. Currently working on 1 right now and can see why people are disappointed with 2. But I enjoy it and hope the next fable is amazing
Man, I'm hoping they are using some of your ideas for the next Fable game. Having the protagonist build their team of heroes and turning them to be either good or evil, or maybe even a neutral direction would be amazing. So would multiple antagonists that mirror your choices to be either good or evil and you either ending up as the hero or villain.
I love these videos. You break things down so well, with brilliant comedic timing and phrasing. Thank you for the effort to do these, it's deffinetly a quality over quantity and this is very high quality.
The gargoyles were my favorite. Their insults and accent were hilarious. I respect that you didn’t like them but I thought it SO satisfying to finally shoot a gargoyle to smithereens after 10 minutes looking for it, hearing it talk shit the entire time.
The gargoyles talking shit made for a surprisingly strong motivator to find and destroy them. The reward for killing them all can't even be accessed until the end of the postgame when you've probably ran out of things to do so killing them out of personal spite was the true motivator.
Wow does Fable 3 suck when you take off the rose-tinted goggles and actually break it down compared to Fable 1. I remembered enjoying it a lot, and it's not a terrible game, but it's just designed poorly by comparison. Staple mechanics are much less enjoyable.
I remember being so excited when this game came out, the original Fable was one of my favourites. Sadly I encountered a bug which didn't let me finish a quest, and I couldn't continue without starting a new game. I never played again.
Funny enough, Theresa kinda did lead Lucien. She needed him to die to control the Spire for a convoluted plan to protect the world from folks connected to Jack of Blades. Sadly its not at all explained in F2 though
@@azoniarnl3362 I agree. I always felt like the 3rd game should've been us taking down Theresa but the devs back then were too obsessed with playing as a monarch.
@talea9593 honestly they could have kept the monarch part of the story and made it where she destroys your reign because of a potential future and puts in a puppet king
I adored this game. Looking for every legendary weapon, revisiting places that you never normally would just to see if any cutscenes or story was hidden. Buying and renting every home in albion so i could afford the endgame castle thingie and revive my dog. It was probably more flawed than the first game but that wont change the amount of hours of fun i had in it
I'd like to note my siblings and I have given a stupid amount of childhood playing this game and not once had the AI pathing issues you seem to have all the time xD I have extremely fond memories of Fable 2 and thinks it's the best one out of the 3 games by a long way. More weapon choices, combat is more fluid, magic while more simple just feels better, skill system is more in depth, I love everything about the game except movement can feel a little bit like trying to steer a wet bar of soap haha, when you played this from release you didn't really know any better so got used to it quick like. Fable 2 was ahead of it's time I think.
Combat was worse Than 1 imo. Magic all felt the same except for spells like time. Aiming was weird and forced players to stand still. Same with magic. In Fable 1, you’d upgrade lightening into chain lightening.
yes dude and the side quest ACTUALLY meant something i first time playing versus my second time was astronomically different because of those quests like Giles farm and the temple of light or dark and westcliff
@@dingle2987 I used to think the combat was worse in 2 as well, but then I went back and played 1 again and it was painful. the magic was cooler but the ranged combat was literally useless and melee was so janky it was infuriating beyond belief it was hard to hit enemies sometimes with the terrible lock on system and the awkward melee swing aiming. When you knock down an enemy they were immune to being hit again until they got up again. Besides AOE magic, making spells like enflame insanely overpowered.
DLC has been around since around the early 2000’s, but it was the Xbox and Xbox 360 that really kicked it off - in a stupid way. Fable 2 was a great game, but it got a ton of garbage DLC, most of it revolving around buying more junk from that trader from the start of the game.
Worst thing about fable 2 DLC was that you needed the exact same DLC as someone else to play multiplayer with them. Not just for story expansions, but if I had the free Yule hat and another person didn't, we couldn't play together
i turned off the video here i no longer respect this guys opinion. getting into a fluid motion where you can snap up and headshot everything was ridiculous damage
Back when I was in high school my older brother would just play Fable 2 days on end, even after finishing the main story he'll just grind Renown of all the npc's in the game. Partly because our family didn't have much disposable income, so we only bought games that had long replay value.
@@Slender_Man_186 I just looked it up and its two different people, but if you put a blindfold on me I wouldn't be able to tell the difference for sure lol
I believe you learn about Reavers backstory through some books you can find. It tells you how he ended up being called Reaver and turning into what he is.
My first initial reaction seeing the title was "That game was great! No way could it have been bad. I then watched the video and remembered why I didn't replay it after my first play through like I did with Fable 1. Great vid!
I started playing Fable 2 a couple of weeks ago and I love it so much! I played it when it first came out, I remember some things but not all so it's like playing for the first time again! Also I never played the dlcs so the new content is nice
I remember playing this in the army around christmas 2008 and really enjoying it. Got hammered eating Papa Johns and probably sinking 16 hours into it in a weekend.
really enjoying all of your content and your thoughtful commentaries. One thing you might not be considering regarding the game's progression are casual players who won't be spending hours grinding the various tasks or buying up all the properties for rent etc. Seeems to me like the progression is designed to let you finish the content without much of a problem without needing to invest heavily into the side activities.
Would definitely love to see you finish the series! It was definitely fucked up by incompetence but there are some great redeeming factors :) and its fun to hear you rage about the incompetence not gonna lie lmao
I think to complete the trilogy, and just so I can hear your thoughts I would like you to do fable 3. Your hard works are much appreciated. I was very hyped for 3 and although disappointed, I still had some type of fun.
I honestly really enjoyed Fable III. At the very least, you’ll find that the story is different than Fable I and II. I think it’s worth a playthrough, especially since a new game is coming out soon
Plus the multiplayer was actually fun to mess around with. I remember not caring for the ripped out mechanics of course, but that just didn't matter as much when I could have fun with my friends and unlike in Fable 2 you could actually use your character instead of a weird blank slate. And honestly Fable 2 was so disappointing to me that I had 0 expectations for the third game.
@@ManusMeridiem are you joking?!? The goddamn Sanctuary alone is so shitty that it worsens Fable 3 exponentially!! And let’s not even talk about how magic is even more unbalanced than Fable 2, or about the fact that 99% of players had their first play-through ruined because the game flat out LIES about how many days you have left...
honestly the mechanics in fable 3 were so poorly executed it made me just hate the game. They were so badly implemented it made the game rage inducing, not helped by the stripped down "streamlined" other aspects.
Oh YES! This came at such a good time. SO excited! My fiancé showed me this game when we first started dating about four years ago because he loved it as a kid.
Yes! Was really looking forward to more Fable, I really liked the second one but I could only do one playthrough as a woman. I'm glad they fixed up the mechanics more in fable 3 because it was really odd seeing my female character turn into some weird tall chiseled hulk lady when her strength was high. Thanks, can't wait till the 3rd episode of Faaaaable!
@@justifano7046 they look more like the pc in Fable 3 lmao usually their chins don't extend and square out like they did in 2. Also for the ruby of Myr'Bregothil, you CAN put it back. The issue was you started shooting the big hollow man who was also the ghostly voice immediately, without waiting or walking closer for the prompt to give it back, which to the game was refusal.
Just cause nobody else said it: you could have given that Hollowman at at 53:34 the stone back. The problem is you shot him instead of walking up to him.
Idk if it's a glitch, but I just replayed Fable 2 last week and when I chose to give the stone back, I still had it in my inventory upon exiting the cave. So I got the best of both worlds.
Salt I just want to say I LOVE your videos, I always look forward to them. Keep at it an finish the series- I am actually replaying fable 3 right now as think that you might have a lot of say about some of the changes to the mechanics for that iteration. I think some of them are actually really interesting to look at as like a moment in games history for better (money room that you can walk around in) or worse (john clease always talking in the pause menu). Anyway, whatever you post next, I’ll be there!! :)
I just love the fact that, after you finish the game, there are still tons of quests to do designed specifically for after you finished, such as the two castles you can buy that both have quests and dungeons only available after buying them, but they cost so much that you can only afford them after the main quest. Or the dig site you keep returning to for excavation before unveiling the hidden crypt. They had some good side quests in there.
@@Harmphrey Well for the average first time player, you know, not a mouthbreather exhaling Cheeto dust doing their fifteenth play through, that isn’t what they do.
@@Harmphrey You can enjoy the game, yes. But in order to spend hours grinding gold doing the same thing over and over in the beginning area to take advantage of the game’s poor economy? Yeah, the average person has a life, no time for that. So, unless you’re, as I do elegantly put it, a mouth breathing, cheater dust exhaling, no lifer who looked up how to abuse the game’s economy before even starting the game, that won’t be most people’s experience on their first play through.
I remember playing this fifteen years ago and thinking that it looked absolutely amazing. It did for that time. It's the first game I ever finished and it really led me on my path of loving video games and RPGs. I don't think it's fair to take today's gaming standards and apply them to games from almost twenty years ago - they should be compared to other games of that same time, and this one stands out as an absolutely epic game.
Honestly, if Fable 2 would have an Anniversary edition made now, I'd eagerly pay $40 for it. Probably even $60, but I'd be disgruntled by it, I think. I don't know though. I got a hundred hours out of Fable Anniversary on Steam, and I really preferred Fable 2 when they released back in the gap.
I don't like Fable too much, but it gave me a lot of time with my mum just chilling out and playing games. It means a lot to me for that.
Such a pure story
That sounds very nice. 😊

I love that I grew up playing the tomb raider games on the PS1 with my mum. She'd hand the controller to me for jumping, acrobatic parts and combat. While she would do all the exploring and puzzles. Cherished memories
I love this. Hope you and your mom are well man 🖤
Honestly this was my favourite Fable for the reason of the monotonous jobs and buying and renting becoming a corrupt landlord lol. I dunno things were different in 2008 so that was groundbreaking, like a 3rd person sims game.
Think it still is
For me, 2 was what I was expecting 1 to be.
My favorite memory of this game was cheesing the xp system
You don't even need to skip time forward with free rent to get max good karma. You can just make a few small donations to get it all back
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
1000%
I never even thought to do that. I just bought everything and rented it out as soon as I could. The console time change is a great idea.
I'm thinking that since you're this far and the fact that the series is being rebooted, might as well finish it out. Plus, gives us more content from you, and that's never a bad thing
Fable 3 has an amazing aesthetic as well, it's actually an awesome game in some ways but it's definitely the worst Fable game imo

Reaver stealing the final kill is the best part in the game
So did westcliff depending if you invested in berturm or not
For the era, I think they did okay. Even back then gaming was nowhere near capable of the feats we have seen in the last 5 ish years or so.
I'm hoping in the next Fable that is in development we'll get more of this evolving world element
@@jeremyrosal6049 yea. its a shame the OG lionhead aren't making the game. They were so ambitious. obviously people were always upset because they would overpromise but i dont think they didn't follow through because they were lazy or just wanted a quick pay check. I really miss that studio.

From what I remember, the exp lost in The Spire comes back when you kill the overseer so it's more a flavor thing.
The End.
The best thing to do is just level up to max or go to the spire just after you level up so the exp you lose is minimal
Correct
As Jank as this game is there's just a charm around the entire experience. It's one of my favourite games and after countless replays I still find new things
True
This is my exact feeling about oblivion . The jank just adds to the charm of both games
As a child, my family was really big into Oblivion on the 360
My mom, while shopping for Christmas present, saw Fable 2, made the fantasy correlation between them, and got it for us
A few months later, I got to Bloodstone, and my mom heard a bunch of shouting at the TV for someone to leave me alone
She came in and asked who was bothering me
And out of the mouth of her, at the time, 8 year old child came the words
"Cindy the Whore"
So, it's true then... the prophecy has been fulfilled.

"This game needs two antagonists that shift from being good or evil" Amazingly he is describing the plot of Fable 3
Fable is a strange trilogy of games in the way that they progressively took more and more features out of the game and made the gameplay itself more shallow. Fable 3 is probably definitely the worst. But you should still do it.
3 was just a bare bones version of 2.... hopefully the new entry is great
Fable 2 still had some new and welcome features, like town economies, corruption/purity alignments, many different types of ranged weapons, etc...

Fable has always been a rags to riches story in a way more of a weak to strong but yoy also gain wealth in the time, in fable 3 there is none, you're a good swordsman, a princess or prince and you have fame everyone knows you already.

@Logan Scott That's HGH.
The game punishes the character not the player. I never had an issue with that. I don’t want to delete a character or have to go hours back in progress because I didn’t save. You’re a hero. Maybe a rubbish fighter and an idiot for not sticking up on potions or food, but still a hero.
How u say second most annoying part is the fat blocking a belt yet its your 3rd complaint

Reaver is actually an awesome character when you read his diary pages. His bargain with the Shadow Court is what led to the eventual (re)destruction of Oakvale. A passage reads:
"Then I see him running madly through fields, the realization of just what price he has unwittingly paid hanging like a tragedy mask from his face. He falls to his knees before the town he called home-- now a dark circus of screams. Hers is among them, but he can do nothing to stop it."
He was also responsible for killing pirate convoys and sending their heads in a bag to Captain Dread.
They're actually not, IIRC.
Peter Mollynerd probably kept him alive as a DMPC
Firaxis confirmed Reaver was lying about killing Garth. They confirmed that he TRIED to kill Garth so I suppose the implication is that Garth beat him and Reaver was embarrassed as a result and started lying about killing him since Garth was in Samarkand and never coming back to say different.
Reaver lied, Garth is still alive as confirmed in the canon book Edge of the World
On Theresa being missed during the abduction, it was actually implied that she either worked with Lucien or at least manipulated him. In one of his diary extracts, a throw away line says he saw a blind hooded figure. When Hammer asks where is Theresa Lucien simply responds: "You're blind friend? I simply listened"
Sooo... you're idea actually did happen
He outright says she does on top of Hero Hill when he's about to shoot you. This guy just didn't pay attention.

It does.
Witcher 3 had it and then Cyberpunk abandoned it. Amazing, isn't it?
@cwarvold6109
Assassin's Creed devs completely forgot what good game design is all together
When I saw that Red Dead Redemption had a "match speed" button for long horsey rides with friends, it made me extremely happy.
This is really freaky, just finished replaying Fable 2 this week AND I literally rewatched your Fable 1 video yesterday, in other words I couldn't have asked for a better video today :)
Almost as if algorithms are a thing
@@elijahnakumura4375 except salt just finished and uploaded this video today, which is the part OP is saying is freaky.
I swear your videos in terms of depth about the games you cover rival TheActMan in quality. Always happy to see a new one in my feed!
This video really makes the case for bringing 2 & 3 to Steam. The first game and the Anniversary edition of 1 is so it’s weird the sequels aren’t. Also I’d like to point out that with the Commandant you get back all EXP you lost doing good after you kill him in the escape sequence.
I would really love to see #2 on Steam 🙏
@@madmorgo6233 Or at the very least on the MS store or Pc Game Pass
I have 3 on steam. I think it was removed, and the only way to get a steam key is thru Amazon.
2 was never released on PC, unfortunately. And yeah, for some reason 3 was removed from Steam. And that was before I did anything with Steam so I missed out.
Games for windows live made Fable 3 on steam such a pain. I bought it on steam, why was an xbox account also necessary?
Bro barked at Toby so hard made him leave town 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 48:29
I remember being evil and having lady grey fall in love with me and as soon as the quest finishes she would just bug out and instantly scream and run away from me on account of my being horrifying evil. She wouldn’t even talk to me haha 😂
Not quite the romance I was hoping for!!
That's usually how my RL romances go
Love the video, the humor, and all the effort that goes into making it, as always.
@@Zuriki09 Fable 2 is a bit laggy on Xbox One but 3 oh god 3 is like playing Dead Rising Off the Record on the Xbox One
Can’t wait for 3, should be a very ranty video
Wow does Fable 3 suck when you take off the rose-tinted goggles and actually break it down compared to Fable 1.
I remembered enjoying it a lot, and it's not a terrible game, but it's just designed poorly by comparison. Staple mechanics are much less enjoyable.
@@lpsoldin3162 Instead of improving mechanics from previous games, 3 seemed hell bent starting from scratch where possible
@@justinnyugen7015 And yet it's much of the same from Fable 2, just worse.
@@lpsoldin3162 I tried to go back and play it. But the npc interaction style drove me nuts.
Theresa seems to be the big baddy behind the scenes all along. Manipulating people into place.
@@azoniarnl3362 "The truth is, Little Sparrow, the game was rigged from the start"
I need to do some decluttering and you are coming in clutch my good sir! thanks for more fantastic content!
I love this game it holds my best childhood memories and I'm only 16!!
Fable 3's reputation primarily comes from how it helped start the trend of intentionally holding back content to sell as DLC later
Was it? I always thought DLC was an inevitable endpoint once we gave consoles lots of storage space and an internet connection.
I meant to say Fable 3 here ofc
@@kabusohikaru6187 sorry that's stupif but fucking hilarious

So very true. And the guns had so much variety. They were the hidden gems in this game.
Back when I was in high school my older brother would just play Fable 2 days on end, even after finishing the main story he'll just grind Renown of all the npc's in the game. Partly because our family didn't have much disposable income, so we only bought games that had long replay value.
I honestly loved the job mini games, and the free style swimming 😂 such an amazing game in retrospect and at the time!

I remember playing this in the army around christmas 2008 and really enjoying it. Got hammered eating Papa Johns and probably sinking 16 hours into it in a weekend.
Literally same dude, but at Camp Lejuene lol
really enjoying all of your content and your thoughtful commentaries. One thing you might not be considering regarding the game's progression are casual players who won't be spending hours grinding the various tasks or buying up all the properties for rent etc. Seeems to me like the progression is designed to let you finish the content without much of a problem without needing to invest heavily into the side activities.
Honestly it's rare I hear someone didn't just skip time on their clock for money.
Would definitely love to see you finish the series! It was definitely fucked up by incompetence but there are some great redeeming factors :) and its fun to hear you rage about the incompetence not gonna lie lmao

Nah, that'd be Skyrim, Fable is a landlord simulator.
I think to complete the trilogy, and just so I can hear your thoughts I would like you to do fable 3. Your hard works are much appreciated. I was very hyped for 3 and although disappointed, I still had some type of fun.
Been waiting for this video for so long, the fable anniversary is proably my favorite video of yours
I feel Fable 3 is better than Fable 2. I hope he does a video for 3. I'm not holding my breath for Fable 4. Lol
@@ManusMeridiem are you joking?!? The goddamn Sanctuary alone is so shitty that it worsens Fable 3 exponentially!! honestly the mechanics in fable 3 were so poorly executed it made me just hate the game.
I replayed this game about two months ago, it's basically the "time to buy up all the property" simulator and I love it.
It’s amazing how you can actually see what you’re doing in the first game. In F2 it’s so dark it’s a good thing your enemies have red outlines.
also the bloom and the motion blur are absolutely horrendous in fable 2..

Also for the ruby of Myr'Bregothil, you CAN put it back. The issue was you started shooting the big hollow man who was also the ghostly voice immediately, without waiting or walking closer for the prompt to give it back, which to the game was refusal.
Thank you, because I remember putting it back.
I loved this game, played through it like 70 times, literally.
I call bullshit. 10, 15 tops.
Just cause nobody else said it: you could have given that Hollowman at at 53:34 the stone back. The problem is you shot him instead of walking up to him.
He'd probably bring up some BS about "well the guy was outlined in red, it's not my fault"
Idk if it's a glitch, but I just replayed Fable 2 last week and when I chose to give the stone back, I still had it in my inventory upon exiting the cave. So I got the best of both worlds.

Keep at it an finish the series- I am actually replaying fable 3 right now as think that you might have a lot of say about some of the changes to the mechanics for that iteration. Anyway, whatever you post next, I’ll be there!! :)
I love how your character just Heelys their way through the game.
