BellowD The US had no reason to get into WWI, other than President Wilson was a progressive who wanted the war powers to reshape America away from the restrictive Constitution he complained about in some personal writings.
In WWII, we'd have been better off following Churchill's advice about letting the Nazis and Communists exhaust each other and taking out the winner, instead of sending so much aid to Russia and keeping the Nazis distracted in the West.
But then war is usually about politics, grabbing power and plunder, and pursued by short-term thinking rather than what is actually good for the future of the country.

And in turn, don't let yourself get used BY others to fight their battles for them. Doesn't matter the reason, be sure you're not letting yourself get used by any other person, group, organization, company, government or anyone else. Because I assure you that if they are willing to let fight for them, they are just as willing to throw you under the bus for their own agenda. Which is really what it is, irregardless of what it is, if there's a group you are 'defending' or otherwise trying to 'speak' for I promise that the 'group' in question does not care about you.
I'm not at all saying what you should or shouldn't believe in or defend. Just be sure you're defending your own personal beliefs or thoughts over blindly following some 'group' that gives zero shits about you. I know conspiracy theorists toss this word out all the time, but, don't be one of the 'sheeple'. Because if I've learnt anything, it's that there's no group in this world that really and truly cares about you, only themselves. Oh, individual people might, those you know, friends, family, etc. But groups of any kind? Never, not in a million years will they care about you. And don't believe them either. They'll butter you up in whatever ways they can to make you 'think' that they care, but they never will.
So, pick your battles, pick the ones you can win, or at least not lose in, but pick your 'team' your 'side' as well and make sure that they aren't just using you for their own ends.

Hit them from the shadows and shoot them a range in where they cannot fire back. Retreat, then wear them out through attrition.

You hold the line wherever it and however is needed, Helsreach taught us that much. If you need to hold long enough to retreat to a favorable location then you do just that, if there is no point in holding at all then set a trap and let them fall in, surround and destroy them when they are tired from chasing you and you can sweep away the entire army in one decisive hammer blow.

Dying with honour leaves you just as dead as dying without honour. So the whole 'coward' thing doesn't factor into things nearly as often as one might think. Glenn Morris put it best: "Do you want to be invincible or invisible?"
Also, something to ruminate on: the foundation of all strategy is avoiding conflict. Every succesful plan of attack, every military innovation, has always been summed as "Don't let the enemy interact with you." This can be by increasing the striking distance to avoid a counter-attack, increasing damage output for the same reason, or even use superior mobility to evade the enemy and take control of the engagement.
Same principle applies here, suppose: if you're constantly flailing at your opposition, you're not getting anything done. Balance your efforts, minimise the chances of your opponent being able to interact (stop you or confront you) and your chances go up.
As weird as it may be to bring up, the English language has a nice phrase for this: it's called 'husbanding your strength.'

Honor and Glory was the rulers way to attract the poor stupid and ignorant sods that would be dying for them in the battlefields of old. Why do you think the army trains the grunts to obey orders without questioning? War and combat have nothing honorable or glorious about it, only pain, suffering and death.
War to me is about deception, feint, avoid direct combat as much as possible, engaging in guerrilla warfare, attack quick and retreat quicker and so on. That's how smart warriors wage wars, causing as much casualties on the other side, while suffering minimum casualties on their side.

There is a place for personal honor, but its value has been over-inflated by the ruling classes to get the common man to do things he otherwise wouldn't - if you ask me, the only war that really means anything is the war between sovereign individual and those who would call themselves their rulers.

Good points, RGE! All well stated. I always think of Gettysburg on this subject. Lee wanted to go up the hill "cause that is where the battle is." and that was the problem, too. Longstreet, a far better strategist said "let's turn back and march on DC, forcing the north to chase us and we pick better ground. But Lee, in my opinion, deliberately threw that battle as as double agent. but if not then he was just stupid and uesless. Longstreet did not have the charm that Lee did, but Longstreet was far more capable. Pick you battles, you ground, your weapons and hope like hell.

Spot on. It seems to me that people often wear themselves out emotionally and after giving everything they have and more until they are broken down from the effort, they have nothing left for themselves or their family or anyone who really loves or could possibly love them. Perhaps they do it out of a sense that the ability to give is never-ending, that goodness and sincere effort are an infinitely renewable resource. But like any other kind of energy, emotional energy is a finite resource. You have to husband it and spend it wisely, or you are in very real danger of running out.
You don't want to be in the situation that when those who need and love you need you to be 100% present, you can't be there for them because you've worn yourself away into only a shadow of yourself. You yourself are a finite resource, and you can't throw yourself away.
And of course, god forbid you throw yourself away on silly things that don't matter much in the end.

I guess it depends on your country. Here in the UK, the Tories were in charge for most of the last century. From what i gather, this is common in most nations but not all of them. That said, the left has a lot of influence over society even if it doesn't win politically that often, and culture can get the right to change their platform to be more like that of the left. Being in power longer matters little if you change less stuff while in charge too. That said, i had the far-left (commies, anarchists, etc) in mind when i made that comment, and was also thinking about western europe... but i guess the far-left did win in china and the USSR , so i may have been wrong there too. I guess fragmentation is found in the far-right as well as the far-left so it'd be as much of a liability for both sides. Yeah, it was a dumb comment in retrospect.

People who pick needless fights are the worst. I've seen guys disagree with someone on an issue they don't really care about, just because they dislike the person (or group the person belongs to) that they're arguing with. I've even seen people who agree on something and could work together, end up fighting just because they think they have to fight the other person because they dislike them. It's not what you were talking about in this video but it's related.

The best video game comparison I can make here is "A.I. War: Fleet Command". In that game, you (and possibly up to 7 other players) have to defeat two A.I.s via destroying each of their home-worlds. One for each.
The plot of the game is that humanity got screwed and you (and maybe 7 other players) are the last of humanity's line of defense against the rouge A.I. The A.I. control the entire galaxy and have essentially all the resources. However they don't see the players as a threat. So ideally you sneakily build up your power and pull all these guerrilla warfare hit and run tactics and eventually sneak attack the A.I.'s home-worlds and ideally you win.
However, if you play like a warmonger and take over their satellite planets willy nilly, they perpetually send waves of death squads after you (and your allies). The more you make your presence known and the more reason they have to acknowledged you as a legitimate threat, the more heavily armed and more dense in numbers the death squads will be heading at your door step.
This fight is like that game because we can't fight every battle head on like a warmonger. We will get executed almost instantly. Gotta be sneaky.

"SJWs turn on their own." Too true. Intersectional feminism is made up of diverse groups with different goals and beliefs. Once they lose their common enemy, they work to re-educate each other which inevitably surfaces their conflicting beliefs.

  • @yomomz3921
    @yomomz3921 6 лет назад

The key to fighting strategically, is to have a goal which can be articulated. One must know and understand that goal, and only then can they chart a course toward it. Only after articulating a goal, can one weigh its worth, and decide what they're willing to sacrifice in achieving it. And perhaps more importantly, only after articulating a goal can one evaluate whether their current actions further their cause, and how effectively so.
It sounds simple, and it is, but so many neglect it - and with predictably bad results.

Here's six rules I go by.
    1. Know who you're dealing with. People are unpredictable and not knowing how they react could be fatal in cronfrontations. Don't underestimate anyone.
    2. If a fight is Avoidable, avoid it. If the threats persists and there's no way around, unsheathe your sword. Avoid people who dive into action with reckless abandon and be careful around those who lack the self-esteem to confront unavoidable threats.
    3. Does the *risk* align with the *reward.* Wasting your time and energy on pointless confrontation is a mistake, use both wisely.
    4. Psychological warfare is just as damaging and fatigue inducing as physical warfare, never undermine its effects. Avoid gossipy people, they spread chaos and end up putting themselves in a corner, don't get stuck with them.
    5. Don't go looking for trouble or you'll get what you're looking for.
    6. Pick confrontations you KNOW you at least won't lose.

I have a strict policy similar to yours, but I make the caveat that if I think they make good points I will hear them out. Even if I lose. If they change my mind on something, which happens every now and then, great. I am all for expanding my horizons.
People wondered why I cared about Sargon being wrong on some things. Why I criticized him. Because I saw potential for him to be a better person. I don't criticize people that I don't think will benefit from that criticism, like SJWs.

    • @WorthlessWinner

You're right that knowing if you're on the right side of the war is as useful as knowing how to win whatever war you're fighting. Challenging someone every now and then just to remind yourself why you're fighting on the side you are is important just to ensure you're not in a bubble and to renew motivation. I think JS Mill said something about that. I think these are other aspects of 'winning' though. . Also improves your tactics as you point out with sargon.

"Therenis satisfaction in defeating an enemy. But one must never allow oneself to become complacent. There are always more enemies to be identified, faced, and vanquished.
All warriors understand the need to face and defeat the enemy. Both aspects of the task can be challenging. Both can require thought, insight, and planning. Failures in any of those areas can cost unnecessary time and irreplaceable lives.
But a warrior may forget that even the task of identifying the enemy can be difficult. And the cost of that failure can lead to catastrophe."

I learn this in school. If you have to fight because their is no way out , no hero and no help. Go for broke , screw it all and do not pause . leave a scene of horror behind that will be burn in to people mind for good or bad till the day they die. So that no one will be that gun ho about coming after you again. it does not matter if you lose or win the fight some time . Just make sure they know their is a high price to be paid when they come after you .when you have to fight .
