**RECIPE**
1 lb (454g) soft caramel candies, unwrapped
1 box (15.25 oz, 432g) German chocolate cake mix
2/3 cup (157mL) evaporated milk, divided in two equal portions
3/4 stick (6 tablespoons, 85g) softened butter
1 cup (170g) dark chocolate chips
1 cup (150g) chopped nuts (we used pecans)
Heat your oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
Combine the cake mix, butter and half the evaporated milk and beat until they come together into a stiff dough. Grease an approx. 9x13 inch ( 23x33 cm) cake pan and drop in half the dough mixture in dollops. Put the pan in the oven and bake the dollops for about 5 minutes.
Combine the unwrapped caramels with the remaining evaporated milk and get them just hot enough that you can stir everything together into a smooth caramel sauce (we used the microwave). Chop your nuts, if they need to be chopped.
Take the pan out of the oven and sprinkle over the chocolate chips and nuts. Drizzle in the caramel sauce to get an even layer over everything. Deposit the remaining chocolate dough in dollops on the top. Bake about 18 minutes - it should look slightly under-baked when you take it out, otherwise the caramel will be too firm by the time it cools.
I like to cut them into squares after they've cooled and then refrigerate them overnight to make them extra-chewy. - Хобби
I like how Adam went from teaching us how to grow our own wheat to making our own beer and caramel brownies in the span of a three months.

✨Heterogeneity✨
Pretty abstract beer, but i’m in either way
Really every baked good is a beer in our hearts
We call beer "liquid bread", soooo pretty close :D
Using flour as the base grain was interesting, but completely forgoing the fermenting process sure surprised me
Omnipollo and many other craft breweries have made chocolate, caramel cake batter brownie beers now
I think he’s mixing up the sequence to mess with us. Maybe there is a deep pattern we’re missing.
Dear Adam Ragusea: I am an old lady who made your chocolatey chewy condensed milk brownies 3 days ago and am staring at the last 2 pieces. Now you present this insane caramel candy/brownie treat that I just know I will be making and consuming. Just a warning sir, when my GP starts in on my glucose levels, I will be giving her your YT links and telling her to take it up with you. Thank you for all these incredibly delicious quirky recipes and not repeating what every other (not always accurate or competent) chef is doing. Your Fan, Rach.

god that's so relatable
So it's not just my children following along, thinking Mom has a plan.
Is it just me that finished it in Mom's voice with a snarky "You thought I had a plan? And you've known me for how long?" Or is that just what my mom would say?
No way we finally got a video of Adam’s mom cooking let’s go

We found the origin story/recipe to Adams heterogeneity obsession.

at last, another piece to the adam ragusea lore puzzle
Grandmas cook the same recipe every week since they were 24 and still got to look at the recipie index card from 1980 that she got from Shelly from church

Ah, so we finally get the backstory for where Adam’s brownie obsession came from. Loving the character development!
I wouldn't call this character development, more like fleshing out his character.
And the HETEROGENEITY
@@DanielLopez-ob9jz that's a kind of character development, not all development is character progression
Then it's going to turn into a villain backstory when youtube shuts down and Adam's mom hits her head somewhere and forgets this brownie recipe.
“No, I didn’t have a plan, no”
That’s what I like about the older generation when cooking. No worry, very relaxed, nice and easy.

Hey Adam, i know this is a bit niche, but as someone with celiac and as a massive fan of your work have u thought about doing a quick video on how to make some gluten free basics? Like a halfway decent loaf of bread, doughs, which are the best flours + gluten replacements in various situations etc. Love ur work mate, keep it up!
I think his macaroons recipe is gluten free but don't think any others are
wasn’t his vegan pizza gluten free?
Idk if you know it and want it, but for example sponge cake tastes almost the same if you replace wheat flour with potato starch or corn starch (not with every cake it would work, but sponge is kind of special. I use 1 egg for 1 tablespoon of sugar for 1 tablespoon of flour/starch proportion. The only difference is the cake is a bit more dry. ). Macaroons and meringue are naturally gluten-free and my friend once baked Brownies without adding flour at all and it was good, just a bit flat (it must be recipe with chocolate, butter and eggs).
You can also use dough for Macaroons to create cake layers - just spread it in thin layer on baking paper. My aunt has caeliac disease and do this kind of cake frequently.
@@a.w.4708 mate u are a legend amongst men
Hey Joe, feelin' your pain. My Dad was celiac and now younger brother is too. Both professionally diagnosed. As for me, I consider myself at least "intolerant". One serving of gluten daily is easily manageable. More than that gets me more and more uncomfortable to the point of more than moderate gastric distress. I am gonna try this with a GF chocolate cake mix (there are many). Might have to adjust the liquid amount, probably down, as starches/GF flours don't assimilate liquid the same way wheat flour does. Looks good enough for me to do some experimenting.
Thanks for the sweet tooth tickle. Here's to yanking your filling out! 😄
4:26 she was one year early to the Ohio meme 😂
I tried out this recipe and it turned out amazing. I did use a smaller baking sheet so I had to pre-bake the bottom layer for a little longer and I also used milk chocolate. Please, listen to Adam when he says use dark chocolate. Mine came out VERY sweet
Oh yeah, finally we are at brownies again!!!
They may taste nice, but how good is the layer of skin?
Great.
Lmao these bots on an adam ragusea video are accidentally hilarious

My family has this exact recipe! I started getting déjà vu with the caramels, I’ve had to do that unwrapping many times. We call them yummy bars. My family is from Pittsburgh so lots of shared DNA with Ohio.
To me this is quintessential midwestern US food. 1. Uses packaged mix to make something unintended by the manufacturer, 2. Doesn't slot easily into an existing recipe type other than 'casserole'.
Adam, I'm curious. When people talk about something "seizing up," what does that mean?
It will suddenly turn from a liquid into a solid or semi-solid. With sugary stuff, it's often caused by crystallization.

Adam, would you do a video on wood vs plastic cutting boards? I also see you’ve switched from a plastic cutting board to a different kind that looks like wood but I can’t tell? (And which I also notice is upside down when you use it? Haha). Would love to know your thoughts! Thanks!!
Why i flavor my plastic, not my steak
He made a video on how food plastics are harmful to our hormones. I guess that explains it
I'm pretty sure he addressed already in a past vid, but maybe I'm confusing him with another guy idk. Tldr: plastic is cheap and good for edge retention on knife, but doesn't lest long term and needs to be replaced eventually. Wood lasts long, but needs maintenance, also is pricy for a good cutting board. Other cutting boards are japanese rubber boards, which are the best but also cost the most, bamboo boards which dull your knife really fast, and metal/glass ones which you shouldn't even consider.
@@vloomn I’ll second the rubber boards being the best - they feel great to cut on and keep the knife sharp. Also the prices are comparable to high quality butcher blocks but are much less heavy and bulky. The only thing I’ve noticed is that it does slightly discolor somewhat but you can clean it with effort.
My mom said it's best to use plastic when cutting raw meat because wood is porous & might trap unsavory bacteria, but I don't know if that's accurate.
You can already tell this is a recipe from an American Mom when it pulls out the cake mix.
Adam's mom has such a carefree vibe in the kitchen. Totally see where he gets it from.

Your mom is positively delightful and I love her attitude and the way she explains the steps! :) Thanks for bringing her on for this recipe
Such a great genre of recipes! Home-made yet industrial, in such a way that it could never have been created in any other time but that magical time in the mid 20th century when such bounty was available, but there was time to fuss over layering things together to create something much greater than the list of ingredients, but still profound. Even the small hands unwrapping a whole bag of caramels reminds me of my mom's Christmas candies. This is the most joy I've ever felt from a RUclips video Adam!
I absolutely adore that you still respond to comments with any questions we might have. It always makes me so happy to see and read what other people have had questions about, that *I* never thought of which then gets responded by you.
Honestly, I love this wholesome family videos. Not demanding more, just appreciating the occasional wholesomeness.
