Somehow, this music is quite fitting when Vicious introduces himself to Fay; her look went from uncertainty to absolute terror. Definitely one the best episodes.
I’m not really a professional opera song listener, but this the best opera song I’ve every heard. It may not have a big name behind it, but it’s amazing.
Cowboy Bebop, the first postmodern anime. Combines hard boiled detective noir, anarcho-cyberpunk sci-fi, kung-fu action movies and much more, all while introducing some of the best jazz music and contemporary classical music ever composed.
@@ean1245 Disparate genre-blending is a signature postmodern literary trope. The most influential postmodern authors like Thomas Pynchon, Philip K. Ballad of Fallen Angels is one of my favorite episodes in the entire series of cowboy bebop. It sets up so much in the rest of the series for Spike's back story and tells you so much about the possibilities between him and Vicious. ow to mention the direction of the episode with the combination of the music is just phenomenal.
It takes only a few seconds of this song to make my eyes al teary and feel my throat tighten. What a powerful piece that immediately brings back so many emotions I felt so strongly back at the time. Where did the years go? They rarely make anime as good as CB nowadays.
I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't wanna know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you those voices soared, higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.
+Kyle Wagner Red, do you remember the name of the town? I wonder... is my friend okay, is the pacific ocean as blue as it is in my dreams... Well better get busy livin, or get busy dying...
Kyle Wagner Well most of these beautiful operas are something good. Take The Flower Duet, seems as if a disaster is going on but just looking at the name, it's about Flowers.
I love this version, I always have..always will. Its what got me to listen to Pavarotti, who also does a beautiful version of Ave Maria, and is hands down my favorite Opera singer to date. Its a dying art, and it will be sorely missed once it has disappeared.
Well, plenty of people said that film itself was a dying art once it got it's start. Same with video games. Heck, the most beloved and respected critics of all time, Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, said that they could not see video games growing into art. But you can never tell with people. People are blessed with judgement and taste, and the will to share that taste. Opera may just be revived. Who knows? Hopefully, we shall see.
I can't really listen any other version of Ave Maria. This is the only only that gets to me and makes me really happy. What a wonderful, beautiful, magical song.
*Fancy mode activate* As much as I give unbelievably grand respect to the masterpiece of cinematography, Cowboy Bebop, my personal favorite rendition is the one utilized in the grander of Walt Disney's greatest work of art-at least in my opinion-Fantasia. One phrase, 10 letters; goosebumps. This song gets my hair standing on end from the reveal in the scene it plays in and leaves me tingling on every listen. God, I wish there was another show like cowboy bebop in existence.
I love the moments after 3:39...When I heard it I had chills and I dropped what I was doing. The violins and the voice during that time just sounded absolutely stunning...! *0*
thanks. I didn't sing it or anything, but my family requested this version to be played sometime during the mass and they played it before the homily. It was something I will never forget. I only have had the guts to listen to it again recently. My grandfather passed in August 11'.
@@artygunnar I really hope that it doesn't come out, because I know when it does I won't be able to stop myself from watching how badly the destroyed it
I believe this is a Yoko Kanno original. Even if it isn't, it definitely isn't Schubert's. There are a dozen Ave Marias out there all by different composers, and Schubert's just happens to be the most well known. My personal favorite is Bach/Gounod composition, but recently grew to like the Vladimir Vavilov composition.
If this song only plays for 3 minutes in the episode, why is it 6 minutes long? I guess there was too much greatness in the episode to include the whole thing.
They wrote the music fist then put it to animation. Tho even when that's not the case, osts tend to go longer than what appears in the movie. It gives the editors more room to work with
Ballat of fallen Angel. That damn episode made me realize that Cowboy bebop is something more, and the continuation of the story only confirmed that...

In this case Ave Marie is an arrangement of the Franz Shubert composition/adaption. Yoko Kanno might have done the arrangement and considering it's recorded in Poland it might be in Polish.
-___- I know there are many Ave Maria versions. I love the Bach/Gounod version too! :D And Yoko Kanno had made excellent song of Ave Maria. It's in a sense a cover. I don't want people to think that she had come up with it entirely on her own :)

Of course you cannot bar the composer out of it, but that was not the thing i wanted to point out . Pavarotti, for example, put alot of, typical, italianic passion into this, it sounds thankful and pleased. Knetigs interpretation sounds alot different: He puts a note into it, that i would interpret as desperate or also prevenient. And that makes it, i think so, also to a piece of art, to form your own version out of a composition.
The Ballad of Fallen Angels is were Cowboy bebop really gets going. The whole episode sets such a great mood of suspense and mystery.
My favorite episode
If anyone wants to know who the singer is in this song, it's Jerzy Knetig.
Somehow, this music is quite fitting when Vicious introduces himself to Fay; her look went from uncertainty to absolute terror. Definitely one the best episodes.
Absolutely .... Hands down. One of the best scenes in anime .....
It is as the scene in the opera is a man beseeching the Virgin Mary for a blessing and a fallen angel (Vicious) is watching all the while

maybe i'm ignorant to classical operatic music, but this is by far the most passionate rendition of ave maria i've ever heard
It has been the most beautiful version of Ave Maria I've ever hear. I'd searched for another as sublime as this one with no avail.
It's beautiful. I like Schubert's rendition, personally. Also, other than saying 'Ave Maria', this is not the traditional Latin prayer.
Michael Rudolf Please look up Ivan Rebroff’s one. You’ll be blown away
I prefer female vocals for the 'Ave Maria' but this is pretty good.

Call me dumb is this heady convo but a good story with a good score simply kills and you know when it does, no matter your background or pedigree.
Ave Maria isn’t contemporary classical, it’s Romantic era music. This is basically a rearrangement of Schubert by Yoko Kanno
