    Hell yeah!! Had no idea you liked Psy-Trance!! Do you like Shpongle (Simon Posford)? He basically invented the Psytrance genre, or at least defined its sound way back when he was like 19-21 years old under the then name Halucinagen, everyone in that genres has basically been imitating his sound ever since, while he went on to further develop & perfect his sound into something completely unique & incredible, that is truely a new genre all its own (well he's been doing it for like 25+ years so there may be a few new genres that have spawned off his style yet again, ie. Folktronica, etc) under the names Shpongle/ Younger Brother/ & a few others. He's my favorite musician/ DJ/ Producer/ & the all time craziest live shows that you have to experience.... nothing else like them!!!! I'm sure Simon has many many influences, but 2 significant ones are Dub style mixing/ music & the super underrated band Ozric Tentacles (they've put out like 50 incredible albums since 1980). In the end I can only think of maybe 2 other musicians/producers/artists that can be said to have had a significant hand in creating not just 1 major genre of music but 2/3+ theought their lifetime, those being Brian Eno(+Fripp?) & Genesis P. Oridge of Throbbing Gristle/ Psychic TV (which I was actually lucky enough to very briefly meet back in 2011 in Austin, not long before they passed away).

      @@mixbustv I tend to think MixbusTv is into Heavymetal and Industrial in his free time. There are definitly similar aspects between Psytrance and Heavymetal SOUNDWiSE. Clear precise and somewhat hard highs. I definitly loved to hear that aspect well brought forward. Rather than rubbery sounding, overcompressed sound. This master gained alot of these qualities..

    psytrance folks have a slight tendency for good Quality PAsystems. So, probably you would have gotten away with slightly less high. Not wrong, not at all, but also given the clearness, cleannes of the Psytrance, often a unhyped Highend is used. Also given the choice of drugs, lol, they often can hear the highs very accentuated, lolol

    6:43 Aw man that was anti-climatic haha. Oh well- Great video regardless! I know you have answered this a few times but I think I can rephrase from my point of view. Am I better of just hiring someone with gear that is also a great engineer if I want a really good mix + master? I mean it does seem somewhat essential in some aspects. I've only got a DAW and plugins as of now but I was thinking of getting gear for the long run. When did you realize that gear was essential and where does one start when getting analog gear?

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад +1

      Well yes.. even if you buy the gear, you don't pay a professional to turn knobs, you pay for the skills and ears and experience, AND then basically to rent the gear. What's the alternative? Unless you're planning on becoming a professional engineer investing the time and money necessary is a bit of a task, IF you want to be an artist, be an artist and do what professional artists do which is hiring engineers :D
      I started with analog, so there was never a point in which I realized it was necessary, I started with it both in mix and mastering.

    How can the low frequency of the kick be used as trigger for the transient of 4Khz that precedes the low frequency signal?
    I thought you'd have used an external MIDI trigger at a matched tempo instead.

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад +1

      Precedes by what 0.0002 ms? Just listen

    • @ephjaymusic
      @ephjaymusic 3 года назад +1

      @@mixbustv I was curious because I didn't know what the length of the transient was, and it seemed (from a technical standpoint) like there would be an induced delay between the MB being triggered by the tail of the kick after the transient had passed. Thank you for clarifying.

    @Mixbus TV, In my opinion for the genre the mastering lacks more energy in the low and mid freqs, however I guess you are trying to not touch a lot the audio mixdown and make the less "destructive" master by enhancing just a little bit certain frequencies. In this case, I think you should have intervened a little more in the frequencies I have mentioned and not apply the "less is more" in that specific sense, in this case it would be better to add what is missing for the track to be part of the standards of a psytrance master. But that's just my opinion and what I would do if it were my client.

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад

      What do you do for a living?
      Standard of a psytrance master? Too much low end is too much low end, period, and too slow low end is too slow. You don't add what's "missing" instead of getting rid of what's in excess, They are not interchangeable. If you did that you would have done at disservice to "your client" This track charted #11 on Beatport, your digression makes very little sense. Can you link one of your psytrance masters?

    • @MrDobleagent
      @MrDobleagent 3 года назад

      @@mixbustv the chart #1 of Beatport is nothing about the master, is about the composition of the track, I can assure you this track would be hitting #11 with just a limiter, but thats not the idea right? about your questions, as I said there is a lack of energy in the low and mid frequencies... I'm not going to tell you exactly where, but if your client and you are agree, I'm willing to "anonymous" re do the master of this track if you provide me with the wav file, I can do it as a courtesy if you want to have a better reference for this particular track and future tutorials on Psy-Trance genre.... I look forward to hearing from you, greetings! ;)

      @@MrDobleagent i would say , no ,just a limiter would not done the trick... Where should i start.. Those frequency-response sounds off very clearly. No he has done it well. Man he even use analogue-converter-clipping. That probably provided the bite that was slightly leaking, wich i can also sign off as a good choice. A limiter would not fixed those two things. I love the weight, that steal that has been added. The mix was pretty light sounding, and of course there is improovement IMHO in the master.
