The fly by wire system was probably the most important innovation that you didn't touch on. Most flight controls were connected with mechanical, physical systems at the time, and the F-16 was electronic.
I never thought it was weird or dumb looking in any way. Everything about this machine is beautiful and it looks like the most aeodynamic thing possible. As for the name, falcons are my favorite bird, so I always preferred thinking of it as the Falcon.
When you call out fly-by-wire, the next word is flight-control-system FLCS which allowed the pilot to fly the jet in subsonic flight. As he mentioned, the F-16 is aerodynamically unstable.
The Viper is known as a brilliant jet at suppressing enemy air defense (SEAD). One Viper driver dodged SIX sam missiles just by maneuvering without even using countermeasures. The USAF has almost a thousand of these mean little jets!
As someone from the UK would love to see the Eurofighter Typhoon would be an epic episode!

I worked at an airport a few years after 9/11 which had f-16's stationed there. They would take off nightly for patrol around the boarder and when those things would take off with the afterburner, the noise was deafening. Beautiful sight as well.

I work at a base that refurbs the components on the F-16, ...We specifically work on the radar systems and HUD systems ...we are already starting to refurb F-35 components as well...its an honor to be apart of our nations defense I'm going on 20 years working for the DOD...

The cockpit looks a bit awkward from the front but otherwise i don't even think the cockpit with the "bubble" looks that awkward, this is just a very sexy looking plane/fighter jet in my opinion. :)
I agree. Besides, as silly as it looks from the front, it’s a very small radar profile from that angle, it’s like flying a pencil. They cant see you.
In case you haven't flown it in a video yet, Panavia Tornado please. I used to love seeing these at the airshows at RAF Conningsby here in good ol' Blighty!
Oh yes panavia tornado however he would need dcs, war thunder or older simulator by digital integration to show it and he seems to be focused on flight simulator here but I'm new here to be certain

Actually the F-16 Fighting Falcon is used for new manufactured airframes. F-16V Viper is the designation given to any existing F-16 that is upgraded to the Block 60 or above standard. That's not opinion, that's per Lockheed Martin.
Huh? Every f16 official name is the fighting falcon but everyone calls it the viper since it’s that’ll given nickname.

Whenever Trev uploads a flight simulator, my mind instantly got reminded to ask him to finish ace combat 7 lol.
I lived on Yokota Air Base in Japan when my dad was in the military. The only way to get from one side of the base to the other was driving over the ends of the runway. One day I was riding my bike as F-16s were taking off. I wish I had a smartphone at the time.

I would love to see you actually work through the lessons to learn how to fly properly vs shoving it to the runway, etc. I think you will love flying even more when you know how planes work better (ex, "I think we are dropping" vs looking at the vertical speed indicator and altimeter to see if you are decending).

Fun Fact: The F-16’s nickname is “Fighting Falcon”, but most crew and pilots nickname it the “Viper” cause of its resemblance to a viper snake, and the fictional Colonial Viper star fighter from the show “Battlestar Galactica”.

Words cannot describe how much I envy your son. Good for him.
And I believe that bubble top cockpit roof helps with airflow and aerodynamics. Smooth, steady streamlines are critically important in that, anyway.

Fun facts about the F16: after the Vietnam war we needed maneuverability. The f16 was designed to be a cheap and maneuverable fighter. All the screens were added later. The jet was designed with a lot of John Boyd’s ideas. The f16 was only meant to have 2 aim-9s on the wing and just be a speed demon. Anyway enjoy the pack.

What about the A-10 Thunderbolt. It's basically a flying gun. Tank destroyer. Such an amazing airplane. Or the F-4U Corsair. All time favorite warbird.

The top Mach studios f 22 raptor is a raptor unlike the one that you’ve flown 10/10 way better than the last one.

I love the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It’s one of my favorite jets along F-15 Eagle/ F-15E Strike Eagle and the F/A-18 Hornet/Super hornet. F-14 Tomcat will always be my favorite though.
