Charlie Ward was one of my favorite players as a Knicks fan back in the day. You can always rely on him for some quality minutes in crunch time. Very respectable career in my opinion.
I would have taken the same route, mainly for the reason of less of an injury risk. The injuries in the NFL can be life altering, but in the NBA, that risk isn't as high

My to favorite youtubers collab - nice! For you Korzemba subscribers that don't know about KTO, and aren't subscribed to both already, you are really missing out! You don't even have to love the NFL, his videoes are just very entertaining and interesting enough.
He never chose the NBA. The NBA chose him. The problem was after he won the Heisman Trophy the NFL never chose him. Get in where you fit in! Shit, what he did & accomplished is remarkable. Win a national championship in college, be named the greatest college athlete in the country for your season to win the Heisman Trophy & then get drafted into the NBA & make multimillion dollars to play in MSG in front of, what's considered the greatest city on earth & do pretty damn good. I'd love to tell my grandchildren that kind of story! Shit I'll take it!
@@tylerterain1703No he said if he wasn't taken in the first round he wasn't going to play football and he was also drafted to the MLB. The Chiefs OC at the time said Charlie reminded him of a young Montana and they would have got him
Lets be honest here and acknowledge the elephant in the room. Ward was a Black QB during a time when his style of play wasn't appreciated by the NFL & there is no way he was going to make 34 million dollars in the NFL. Again this is during a time when no one was making 100 million dollars in the NFL! Brett Favre was the first athlete to get the 100 million dollar contract in 2001 & he earned that through tough years proving himself. I don't know what this young boy is talking about. But I get it, he can only speak from a reference of his young perspective! The NFL just recently started paying decently. The NBA has a way better minimum wage than the NFL historically, especially during Charlie Ward's time.
Makes sense to me, coaches in the NFL arent gonna run this same type of offense in the NFL therefore meaning he would be a clear bust in the NFL. He was a smart man if you ask me.
Was raised a Knick fan and watched Charlie growing up. My dad never let me forget that he won the Heisman. I always thought that was the coolest thing.

The basketball we play today was created a Canadian doctor (James naismith) whom wanted to play a sport indoors due to cold weather. So you brought up a great point there.
Being more of a football fan than a basketball fan here, I thought I'd give my 2 cents on Charlie Ward and what might have been had he chosen football. There's no guarantee that he would've replicated his Heisman success in the NFL. In fact, the Heisman Trophy is not an accurate indicator of Pro success. Only 9 Heisman Trophy winners are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Of those 9 players, 7 are Running Backs, with 1 Quarterback and 1 Wide Receiver. The Running Backs are Marcus Allen, Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, Paul Hornung, Barry Sanders, OJ Simpson, and Doak Walker. The Wide Receiver is Tim Brown, and the Quarterback is Roger Staubach. In addition to the aforementioned Hornung, Staubach, Simpson, Campbell, Allen, and Sanders, only 2 other Heisman winners have won NFL MVP; Frank Sinkwich and Cam Newton. The only Heisman winner to win Defensive Player of the Year is Charles Woodson. On the flip side, notable Heisman winners who were NFL busts include Andre Ware, Archie Griffin, Rashaan Salaam, Gino Torretta, Chris Weinke, Jason White, Danny Wuerffel, Matt Leinart, Tim Tebow, and Johnny Manziel. Then there are some mixed bags. Herschel Walker was a good running back in Dallas who just so happened to be the focal point of the most lopsided trade in NFL history, after which point he became a journeyman player (his successor in Dallas is currently the NFL's all time leading rusher). Bo Jackson was robbed of the chance to become the first athlete enshrined in both Canton and Cooperstown due to injury. Jim Plunkett won 2 Super Bowls with the Raiders but struggled early in his career due to bad teams around him.

This guy was a bona fide first round draft pick probably number one overall in today's NFL. If people don't realize how good he was ask Ray Lewis and Warren Sapp because he played against both of them in college. Ask those guys how good he was and if he could have succeeded in the NFL.
Charlie Ward did the right thing without a doubt at least from a financial standpoint. Lets be honest here, we know how the NFL felt and still feels to a certain extent about certain players at certain positions. Not as bad now but the opinion is still there. I was in college at that time playing football myself and although I would've liked to see him give it a shot friends as well as myself knew it would probably be better for him to go to the NBA.
Ok, because he won the Heisman doesn’t mean he is going to be a star. College is a waaaayyyy different game and you can’t assume him a star. Johnny Manziel is horrid in the nfl and he was amazing in college. He also struggled his first year in college like Ward. So don’t call him a star.

Yomama RBX: notable nfl players do. In the nba, players who have never averaged over 20 pts or a double double could easily get a 10 mil contract

Some players in the nfl can make up to 15 million a year or sign 100 million dollar contracts
