This was made with AI, don't tell the Techpriests! - Хобби
I buy and use anything... Been around the hobby since 1989 when I was 12, read Rogue Trader in the store before being allowed and able to buy it. I had a hiatus from the hobby when I was 16 to 36 when life was more important, got back into after a car meet, after a few friends told me they were in it still. Besides gaming in a hobby store, there are no laws for buying metal, plastic, and resin Toy Models. Only rule I have is fun and creativity to the art, and the only rule I do uphold is keep it the lore in that respect.
I backed Ravaged Star Veil Touched on Gamefound. I guess that says how I feel about 3rd party sculpts. The minis are great and seem very suited to proxy into 40K as Chaos Space Marines. I already have 2 Chaos Space Marine Armies Iron Warriors and Emperors Children. I have been in to 40K for about 30 years. Alternate sculpts can be awesome. I don't play in official tpurnaments so the proxy models are fine for my needs. I don't mind playing against proxies as long as it is obvious what they represent on the table.
I 3d printed a lot of minis, and I'll keep doing that, never received complaints from anyone, before tournaments I always asked organizer if they were cool with the proxies and I only received curiosity and compliments. You can hear the AI when it says third-party miniatures! XD
I mean, fair question here, is it such a bad idea to do what most smaller mini developers now do, sell the stl files to print? kinda go back to the catalog days of ordering, gw could offer kits, parts, piecemeal bits to customize, with personal printing licensing, and if they catch people abusing that license they have much more of a legal basis for dropping the hammer, an actual contract violation. And I think you pointed out a year or so ago, their promotional painted minis for upcoming releases are 3d printed. so they have files premade.
Personally, I'm fine with any kinds of 3d prints, so long as it's not to make an in game advantage. No half sized repulsors for example, so they're easier to hide behind cover.
For me, I have wanted a Vulkan He'Stan for a while, and had one on order for 6 months, just eternally out of stock. So I threw in the towel, and bought a 3d printed model that was similar and the right size.
Preach 🙏
of course not, but your local GW is well within their rights to deny your ability to play in their stores or restrict them from tournaments
My local store manager once told me I couldn’t make by own weapon scopes for my minis, and I should instead buy a space marine kit if I wanted scopes.
I never went there again.
GW rules NEED to be 100% free.
What are the chances an ex-Activision employee works at GW?
play One page rules and be happy
Weak sauce rules will never make me happy. 🤦♂️
GW exploits artist's passion for profit.
Going to independent artists is MORE ethical
There are other games..... F##k GW and their fleecing monopoly
3d printing 1 for 1 copies of GW is not a crime if it's for personal use. If you sell them, it's a crime. No profit = not a crime.
