This brotha here.. He and blackbird mcknight should be included as greatest guitar players ever. Been funkin since 1974. Da baddest dudes... And dont sleep on ricky rouse. Lawd lawd. These brothas keep doing it. Funk in peace my brothas. I admire u al
Maggot Brain is one of the greats. Cosmic slop is banging also. MUSIC is good for meditation to keep you off medication.God (Jesus) bless you all and live for him.
Nice job. Yours is one of the best covers I've heard. (and I've heard a ton). Most people just jam to the chords. Thanks for posting. Keep up the EXCELENT work!
With all due respect, the way I understand it is that I don't know what any one should do. If Eddie Hazel isn't mentioned, only those who know Funkadelic will ... And even though Parliament is unparalleled, this is as real as Eddie Hazel.
Eddie came up with the riffs and Mike learned all.his rnotes from maggot brain, pussy, red hot mama, standing on the verge, loose booty, and the rest Free your mind, superstupid and Friday night Aug the 14th Eddie composed some of the best guitar songs in history and the stuff he didn't get to record we seen Mike use along with Gary, Byrd, Ron bykowski, lige curry and Ricky rouse all used noted influenced by Eddie or they borrowed his licks from unrekeased tracks Just like Eddie borrowed from Jimi even though Eddie added his own twist to Hendrix he took Hendrix legacy further and Mike expanded on Eddie's legacy
I heard a rumor that the producer asked this amazing guitarist to think about a 🎸 solo to right if for his mother if she had passed away and this solo is what he wrote for her is this true?
You got it partially right. Maggot Brains was originally written and played (studio version) by Eddie Hazel (guitarist with the Funkadelics). Michael Hampton (also a guitarist with the Funkadelics at the time) who is playing here was the one playing the repetitive beat at the time. When Eddie left, Michael took over as lead guitarist and continued playing Maggot Brains. Rumor has it that Eddie Hazel who was high on LSD on the day of recording the studio version asked George Clinton (the one that just walked on stage last) how he should play it, George told Eddie, play it like your mom died. Eddie Hazel's version remains (in my opinion, THE ultimate masterpiece. Michael of course, has done it justice ever since, but Eddie wrote it and came up with it, and if you look for the rare live performances of Eddie Hazel and Michael Hampton performing Maggot Brains together, you will see what I'm talking about.
And that man owes Eddie Hazel & Eddie owes the GOAT Jimi Hendrix. So many great african american axemen who contributed to this thing called music! Just a few *less known* greats- Elmore James, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Vernon Ried, Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside R.I.P. to all🌹
No offense to Hendrix, Prince, and Lenny Kravitz, but Maggot Brain is the best guitar solo ever by a Black Guitarist. (subjectively speaking). "There's life before you've heard Maggot Brain, with all it's confusion and complexity, and there's life after Maggot Brain, with all its clarity and tranquility" -my original quote
The Legend of Maggot Brain continues in 2023 ....

Superbo
no way is this 1994 as it says in the description. 2004 maybe?
Yes, this is 2004. I own the dvd of this concert.
good..................
Kid Funkadelic
Ummm Hmmmh 💥🎼🔊🔉🔈💭 free your mind... ♻️🤘🏽 Nj-usa
wtf why did it cut short
Good but nothing comes close to blackbirdy's rendition... Everything was perfect there.. The tune, the built up the drums.. Flawless
I also have my doubt that this is 1994, I have been there and the drummer wore the hole concert an american football dress!
From Cleveland, by the way.
John Marshall high school, was in my brother's class.
Kid Funk and the Wizard of Woo playing Maggot Brain: can't get any better without Eddie.
😳😳😳
It is very serious
It gets a bit tedious at the seven minute mark.
Kid Funkadelic!
Kid Funkadelic 🤠
Play on, Kidd.
This is not the greatest song in the world...... this is a tribute
Lawd
