- Hi everyone!
This video is the fifth in the series of Stephen Moore reading the Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books, by Douglas Adams. Specifically this is side 1 of the tapes of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe!
Stephen Moore played Marvin the Paranoid Android in the original radio series and the subsequent TV series, as well as many other characters e.g. Gag Halfrunt. This, coupled with his all-round excellent reading voice, make these a joy to listen to.
As a child I heard the radio series, consumed all the books, and eventually discovered these audio books on cassette tapes in my school library and devoured them all. But of course had to return them.
I recently began to wonder if they were still available. It transpired that they had never been re-released on more up-to-date media and were, I discovered, quite hard to get hold of.
This was the reason then to make these videos - to preserve these charmingly told versions of an unparalleled series of books. My channel is not monetised and I am making no money from this and I would humbly request if anyone does have claim to the copyright, please make a claim on RUclips for monetisation, but please do not block them. In this way future generations can continue to enjoy them.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this.
Dr Alex

RIP Stephen Moore
Thank You for uploading! this is my absolute Favorite now! Never been exposed to the story before beyond hearing others loved it.
You are most welcome 😊👍
Nice profile picture!!
Brilliant. Unbelievably, this is the first time I've heard this version of Restaurant. I wonder why the two succeeding volumes mostly forgo the sound effects? No matter, this is excellent. Thank you again for taking the time to share.
A towel... I get it!
my man's a real g
Thanks for uploading these 🙂
You are most welcome 😊👍
having great fun listening to these - already have the 2 vinyl records, the books, the radio series, the tv series on video cassette, and listened to the version read by douglas himself and while he's a fantastic writer, the reading of stephen moore is better than adams reading. such a fan of these and each format has material that isn't in the others. thanks for uploading !
I did not know about the vinyl records! And now I want them! :D :D
@@DoctorAlex1 have just bought myself a thingamy to transform vinyl into digital format so once i find time to use it, i'll record them and then try to work out how to upload them ! or maybe just send to you by wetransfer !
ps - if you haven't discovered it yet, check out The Stanley Parable - the guy invented the game was a huge fan of hitchikers guide and the guy who voices the narrator was inspired by Peter Jones as the book.
pps - looked on your page - which ones are your books ?
@@kellyryan3255 I'd love to hear them! Whether through you uploading or me doing it if you prefer, I'm happy either way :)
There seems to be dialogue that doesn't appear in this audio book version, interesting. Thanks for putting these up, invaluable.
You are very welcome!
also love your explanation at the beginning - reckon you should be reading audiobooks yourself - good voice, good rhythm.
Aw... thank you so much for your kind comment! If you go to my channel page you will find two (and a half) of my own books read there in audio form :) :)
the 2nd book is as good as the first one ;-)
HOLY GUACAMOLE!!! If you're also a Rick & Morty fan or are curious to see a visual of what an experience with Gargravarr, 40:19, would look like, check out the Rick & Morty episode called Mortynight Run. There's a character in there that would represent Gargravarr, only, since the character is drawn into the cartoon, we get to see him. It'll be obvious which character would represent Gargravarr, and I like to think Zaphod's interaction with Gargravarr would happen like this if he could only see him.
I haven't caught up with the latest season of R&M yet, but will get to it and check it out! Thanks!
@@DoctorAlex1 no prob. It's Season 2 Ep. 2
fart?
@@poorsooul 🤣 yes! It would be perfect!
Thank you so much for sharing. Am I allowed to share on Twitter? Are you on Twitter?
Thank you for your kind comment! I am not on Twitter, but you are welcome to share on Twitter :) And thanks again :)
I love this reader! Thank you for this presentation.
You know the killer guitar work at the end of each section is truly phenomenal! Who is the guitarist? I hope he or she has record work.
You would see how well you touched people's lives if you went into the box Doctor, thanks again.
You are very kind :)
lol. killer guitar work? LOL. that annoying pish is bullcrap.
the guitar riff is utterly annoying noise and your personal intro on EVERY episode ruins the entire point of an audio book.
Well, go out and buy an actual copy of it misery guts.
