Been remodeling for years now. I've always refused to take the time needed for a herringbone pattern install. Finally couldn't talk my way out of it to a customer. Turned to this video for advice and came out great. Takes much longer, but now I'm not afraid of it ha ha.

hey good night from gran Cayman I'm working her I'm from Jamaican I'm a tiller myself really like your style off work..thanks for your instructions its helps ...big up your self Jamaican style...
"The fact that this is going to work is crazy" Intense process and you got really lucky that the spacing worked out perfectly! As usual, beautiful finished product.
Nice job... unlike others commenting ... considering the cost of the tiles skipping those five tiles behind a mirror that NO ONE will ever see was a great cost cutting idea for people who watch this channel for renovation tips and tricks. Great job!!
Matt Barnard , the new owner sees it and we all see it. I also didn’t like his huge square hole for a 1/4 wide wire. Put a quick box on it and face plate. That’s an easy place for bugs to come in and out of. Between the missing tile, the offset tile by 2” and the hole, it doesn’t leave much for a mirror change.
It is beautifully done. I probably will never do anything like this now but we had eight kids and dyi all the time!!!!!!!! I want to tackle some kind of project however probably redoing a table in epoxy. I love your educational videos. I learned and am learning so very much thank you. I have granite counter near stove and the heat has cracked the stone and am trying to figure out how to repair it! that is how I came to find you on u tube lol
Honestly Bob I love the herringbone so much that I did my floor for by bathroom and linen closer area and created a twist to it by throwing in some whole tiles
Love your channel! Some of your videos are similar and you cover the same stuff but it doesn’t seem to bother me.... I just keep clicking next. Where some people would skip the tedious work on video you just continue and explain as you go. Love it!
Hi Rebecca, for many people they need to hear the same message quite a few times before it sinks. in. Thanks you for your support and I hope these videos are helping you out. Cheers!
That mirror & colour of the tile go together like peas & carrots👍🏻 Great job on the install; really nice when the size lines up perfectly when doing tile....especially a pattern like this. Luck, Nah, your THAT GOOD 😎 My Mom watched this w/ me, now she wants me to install something similar in her house (she’s very hard to impress; so great job).....hooray for me😅 Cheers✌🏼
Hey Jeff, I'm loving this channel. I found it a few months ago, coincidentally right before I moved to a house that needed a fair bit of renos. I learned so much from your videos and was able to do lots of drywall work, painting, and some moderate plumbing and electrical work myself. If I had a suggestion for a video, it would be how to install a fiberglass tub and surround. There really isn't much on RUclips about that. The videos I found are either too short and gloss over everything, they're poor quality, or it's just a guy talking while holding the camera and not showing any actual work. Nothing out there gave me the confidence to do the job myself. I know fiberglass surrounds aren't as sexy as tile surrounds, but they're still a practical option for many home owners. Your videos are full of details and tips that matter when DIY folks encounter problems taking on new projects. Thanks again!

I’m doing a complete remodel and am about to start putting new insulation in. In the ext. walls what type do you recommend. And vapor barrier in my bathrooms behind the showers ?
Hi Matt, first you need vapor barrier on the exterior walls. it has nothing to do with the shower itself. Secondly the insulation that is most common and affordable is the fiberglass batt. simply but the same thickness batts as the wall studs will allow. EG 2x4 framing r12 2x6 framing r 20/. Cheers!
Love the video, really helpful. Ive got a job coming up soon for a splashback/utility room. If i was to follow the same procedure and take the tile round a corner, would i just follow the tile around the meet the groutline on the adjacent wall? Then continue the pattern until i meet the edge trim?
Love that tile and the finished look. Burning question was whether you had enough tile to have filled in the entire space?? Also my tidbit is that if your ceiling is textured, it may not be painted so do NOT get grout on the ceiling or the texture will wipe right off when you try to clean it up! Ask me how I know.
Great job buddy, I'm a tile setter for 25 years and I never set a herringbone pattern, that really looks difficult, I set a bunch of pinwheel patterns but never a herringbone

Awwwweee man! LOVE that you can get that heater and apply to whatever piece you choose! In one of the vids you said the paint came out looking too blue.... This tile job dragged it back into the grey and knocked out a lot of that blue... Yes, I saw it too... Hope you at least tried the second coat of paint to see...

That was actually not bad at all ... I think I will stash that away for when I build out my basement bathroom someday! Do you have a video on how you got the live counter in? I'd love to do something like that later .... after 10 minutes, I found it LOL.

OMG Jeff, we have so much in common... I too have a tape measure rubber hammer! It's an extremely versatile tool for bashing in any kind of doohickey 😉
Didn't like the tile at first when you showed us the layout but the full finish effect is quite nice. The live edge wood counter and stone sink makes the whole wall really pop.

While watching the renovate a bathroom A to Z i see that you are using an edge guard at the edge of the tile that meets the painted wall, I'd like more info on the transition from tile to painted wall. should we buy a bull nose tile or are there other options to make it a profesional look? Love the channel and that you actually gave me a number to call if I really get stuck. Thanks in advance.
I am going to attempt to install a backsplash in my kitchen of our new house after watching this channel for two years. I am going to use subway tiles. I have a tile cutter, type1 adhesive, 1/8" trowel and 1/8" spacers and light grey grout. I am unsure what to use for the one open edge. the big box store was no help. The height of the backsplash is 18". Any Advise is greatly appreciated. This is my first backsplash.
You might want to apply your grout a little dryer. You end up with small voids caused by air pockets due to your grout being to wet. As you spread your grout, you're pushing the moisture out of it, making it spread easier. The wetter the grout, the more air pockets you'll have.
I did herringbone textured plank tile in my basement main floor. Some places I can tell the grout line is a little smaller than 1/8. Should I use sanded grout or unsanded? Which brand do you recommend as well? I did buy Tec Accucolor Sanded grout and some Tec boost but second guessing myself as this is the first time tiling and grouting. Thanks for all the help!
Hi Jeff, I’m running into a situation tiling my kitchen backsplash. I’m using a sheet tile in a herringbone pattern. Problem is where the tile is going to meet in corner the walls are out of plum got a 19in spacing between lowers and upper cabinets not sure how much it’s going to show in such a short space, would changing the direction of tile placement make it better? Also can’t decide what wall to start on, do I make the kitchen sink the start wall or the stove wall? Both are centered in a L shaped kitchen. If you have any tips tricks and or videos I would appreciate it. You are the Man!!!
How do I do corners? I have this pattern. First time doing anything like it. Going around a corner though, plus the herringbone pattern has much smaller ones, and a lot of them, with weird corners. Thanks.
Those are some damn sweet tiles they look like bronze with certain spots accented with that turquoise patina of aged bronze, very cool concept for a tile pattern.
Love the content! Your tips through these videos have saved me numerous times! I save money, you make money from me watching. I like what's happening here lol
This video is great, but I was wondering, if you have to use subway tiles in a herringbone pattern for a backsplash and wall, do you have to care about the first pattern row to be levelled horizontally in any way? In other words, do you have to care about the countertop not being levelled? I’d like to do this in L shaped kitchen and there is almost 1/4 inch difference between both ends. You have a very good video on how to start a brick pattern with subway tiles from a countertop, but what about a Herringbone pattern. Thanks!
I just closed on my house on Wednesday. My bf and I went in to assess what needed done and to clean the house before we began. We noticed mid-clean the kitchen cabinets are a little wonky. One is detaching from being pulled on or something, another two close but there's a gap between them, THEN under the sink is completely rotted from a leak the previous owners never fixed. Not sure why I just got into that just to say our bathroom is a complete redo and we're doing this design above our sink as well. Haha
And having just bought a house with everything we already have to spend money on, I, too, would cut minor corners and not tile the whole thing. Money, big or little makes a huge difference somewhere else
He's showing how to do it, That's not easy, filming, talking, explaining and installing all at the same time. It's easy to lose track. Nice job Jeff. You lucked out with the width of that wall.
Loved the video. Like I mentioned before, loving the whole look of the bathroom. I want to use mirror warming system as well but your link to Amazon doesn't seem to be working right. Please let me know. I want to make sure the sale goes through you so you get credit for the sale.
1)This is a wonderful surprise on the holiday weekend! 2) Am wondering this can be applied to floors as well (have only sen herringbone pattern with wood)
Question... I'm fixing up an old basement finished in the 70's with wood paneling (the kind that's about 1/8" thick perhaps). This is not to be the dream basement, just updated. I'm painting the walls, tiling the floors. Could I do a backsplash on the wood paneling in the bathroom and what adhesive would you use? Will it hold to that? Maybe that mesh style backsplash? I'm guessing these 2x24 are too heavy to use... I'm sure I will call during the major project 😄
Hi Steve, I actually have no experience with tiling over paneling. The first thing to consider is why not simply remove that wall and install a drywall surface.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thank you SO much for the reply! So that was the big debate, I'd much prefer drywall, even thought of putting 1/4" over the paneling. BUT, I have a drop ceiling that I would really prefer to keep (and that keeps budget down) leaving me with tile floor (~1100 sq ft), trim, paint, electrical, vanity, toilet, etc. I may throw a single sheet of drywall in the bathroom, or do ONLY the bathroom in drywall. The issue that no one could give a good solution to was - if I go 1/4" over the paneling, how to deal with the top where it meets the drop ceiling? Someone suggested quarter-round, but that seems strange to me against metal drop ceiling bars. Ideas for making drywall work with keeping the drop ceiling and I owe you everything, haha!
You can actually use J trim. it is a metal trim that wraps the drywall and then you push it flush to the existing ceiling. We used it in the first bathroom we did on the channel. Cheers!

Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Oh awesome, I'm going to have to check it out, thanks as always!
Looks beautiful that
