One of my favorite childhood memories is of a 6 cylinder FM ferry boat engine. It was the first of it’s kind I had ever seen. Each trip across the James Rv in Va. I would stand at the doorway to the engine room & marvel. The mechanic was kind enough to tell me about the engine & how he would stop & start the engine according to the captains orders. Fascinating was how it was started backwards for reverse! The boat had a screw on each end & remained oriented in one direction.

Back around 1900 FM built a number of big “Prarie Tractors”. I don’t think that more than a couple of them has survived. A beautifully restored example is shown running in an episode of Classic Tractor Fever. You can find this show on the RFDTV channel, assuming that your cable provider carry’s it. Over the course of a season they recycle old episodes and they also have episodes available on DVD. I think that the tractor was featured in one of the tractor collector magazines a couple of years back too.
