My understanding is the front shocks have only about .3 to .4" unused stroke in the factory setup. Even if you're getting a 3:1 spacer height to lift ratio--and I don't think it's even nearly that high--that would give you a 1.2" maximum lift before the shock bottoms out. So it seems to me that with a 1.5" lift, this rig will bottom out on full compression of the shock unless you also extended the bump stop. Did you extend the bump stop? If not, what is happening here to prevent the shock from bottoming out and smashing itself to bits when the rig takes some hard hits?
Thanks for your video looks great keeps it classy rather than running 25mm offset wheels. How is the ride quality and mpg vs stock? I don't think there is a 1.5" suspension lift for the front yet? Any chance could show a side picture? Have you done one with a 285/70/18 maybe a better middle ground to save mpg? Thank you!
that's great. so what do you think is the largest tire we can put on the stock 18's without a lift. 265 or maybe 275 ko3;s or falken wildpeaks ??? thanks
The departure angle suffers greatly with that spare hanging so low. Any gains in front clearance are entirely negated by the rear. I agree that the larger tires look excellent, but it cripples its capability. Pity.
@@dobbingo9313if you care about your vehicle, don’t do that. Also what possible benefits would get of a 35” over a 33” outside of instagram or at the mall. Big tires are for posers
Is it possible to use a donut style spare that is the same height but much thinner to avoid this issue? I understand the off road limitations but for on road it seems doable.
Typically when you think 35" tires they are not a 285 series. At least not in the Jeep world. They would be in almost every case 315 series x 12.5" wide. No way I would wheel that LC with the 285 spare sticking way out like that. Not sure why Toyota can't offer a bigger tire (true 35s) like Jeep and Ford (Bronco) do considering how much they now charge for their trucks and body on frame SUVs. Title of this video misleading.
Yep, you can even get factory 37s with Ford, and easily fit 37s on a Rubicon. 35s are “fine” but I have to wonder if Toyota really engineered this Prado to handle that stress rock crawling.
Great video! Did the person who bought it came back and had rubbing issues? From what I read, as the suspension settles, it sometimes rubs on full turn and reverse. Thanks again for this informative video!
How does it drive now with essentially double the tire weight on each corner? I just put the same tires on my 200 in 17’s, 59 lbs versus 45lb a corner, definitely can feel it even with 5.7 but now use to it after 2 days so not to bad…need to sort the shock issue first I suppose!
MPG varies based on tire weight, overall diameter, width, and aerodynamics with the new height of the vehicle. Generally speaking, 33s to 35s I would expect to lose 3 MPG
Meanwhile, your competitors down the road are selling paint sealant and dent repair insurance......and all manner of other BS. Kudos Ed Martin. I wish I had seen these videos before I bought my LC.
The fact that you can’t run a matching spare in the stock location makes this modification worthless. The trail hunter also has the spare dragging below the bumper and hitch.
@@edmartintoyota8599 That is not the point. A 34.8 inch tire is in fact a traditional 35. The point is you say it fits… Then pause… Then say “except,” which is where everyone lies. You have to move a bracket. And the spare tire doesn’t fit without protruding…And we don’t know what “you have to move the spare to the side” means. Do a video of the Corolla 4 cylinder lifted on 35 inch tires since both hybrids have the same engine. Both are tiny vehicles designed for small people. $58,000 for cheap cloth seats? No thanks! True Land Cruiser enthusiasts know this is the failed FJ rebranded and no one is buying! Cheers!
Seeing a 35 hang out as your spare is a big flex
maybe 20 years ago. 37s or you're just a mall crawler
Great video. I love all the reviews you do on the older landcruisers. Keep them coming! Blessings.
Great video and to the point. Keep 'em coming. Excited to see those fit, the spare is a consideration for sure.
Thanks!
please, dont ever add those pop up noises again.

That noise is very annoying. I couldn't finish this clip.

The spare does not have to be the same width, just the same outer diameter.
That's true.

Could you not just put a 33” as a spare and in the case of a flat install it and air down to get to the emergency location?

35 on a 4banger? Does it have a Tundra rear axle also?

It drives a little heavier for sure but not underpowered.
Does the speedo show the correct speed, or has that been corrected in the computer?
Yes, it corrects itself automatically.

First of all thanks for this great information, but i have one question.. after installing the new tyre size do i have to program the gear box ?
Nope, no programming is required.
would like to know how much mpg is lost with 35".
Is the levelling kit required to all the 35” to fit?
Yes
The Toytec 1.5 level kit is front only nothing in the back right?

Yep!

35” just look wrong on this. I think the stock size really are perfect for this Prado
I am a fan of 33.5" diameter on these new 250s
@@edmartintoyota8599yeah I can see what you’re saying. Do you think the hybrid can accommodate larger than stock tires like our NA V8’s?
I don’t see why anyone needs matching spare, original will get job done
I wouldn't suggest using a spare that is several inches different in diameter. I would really try to get as close as possible to match diameters.

The fact that you can’t run a matching spare in the stock location makes this modification worthless.

hitch mount the spare and add a 2nd gas tank...here is a hanky.

34s
So the truth, of course is… “35s Don’t Fit.”
