  • The Ultimate Summer Camp Jeep has axles by Spidertrax and I found the front needed the CTM Ujoints rebuilt and some seals replaced. This episode is part 2 of the rebuild where I go through the axle shaft and ujoint tear down and rebuild.
    I originally had edited it all as one really long video, but decided to chop it up into three different videos, a new one every day for three days. If you don't like cliff hangers wait two days and I'll be posting the full hour+ long video then.
    and if you are looking for a Spidertrax axle of your own visit

    Hey Fred, once I get the first two caps out, I'll open up the vise jaws just wide enough to lay the cross of the u-joint on it. Of course, you want to use the aluminum jaws so you don't damage the cross. Then hammer the yoke to remove the other caps. To install the new caps, again, open the vise jaws wide enough to position the yoke & u-joint between them & start cranking them down. It works for me! I hope this helps!

    Growing up on a farm I'm sure you have replaced a few of those U joints. Like button engaged.

    You could get a big chunk of brass and drill a big hole in it and cut it in half to make a cradle to hold the cross when you hammer out the caps

    Dude!!! Can you use those joints in a stock application (drive shaft)? ✌️

    Can you use a vice with soft jaws to press the caps in?

    Really liking this series. Once you get the caps started, can’t you just put it in the vice and squeeze it.

    Why again would you not have a #DAKE arbor press in your shop?

    I really like to 20 to 30 min videos. A cheap little press or even a bench vise to push those caps back in would make the job much easier.

    Fred would it benefit you to use the vice (or a press) to squeeze the caps in?

    Hi Fred, thanks for the info. What grease are you using, I have Yukon super joints and their lube is crazy expensive.

    No needles in the bearing cups?

    • @rotorhead5000
      @rotorhead5000 Год назад

      That's the whole point of the ctm joints, they use a bushing instead of the needle bearings. Requires more frequent grease, but is much stronger than your typical needle bearing joint. I also like the idea because you don't have to worry about having a needle fall over during installation.

      @@rotorhead5000 I was thinking that might be the case. They are working awfully hard in Fred's case with that supercharged V8.
