  • Have a glorious day and keep Tinkering! N-scale trains are really sweet and being able to design your own model railroad buildings with Tinkercad textures to go along with them is pretty cool. Check out this slick way to add textures to a building that you can then print on your resin printer.

    One thing I found when I had a LOT of objects that I needed to group for one of my projects. If I grouped a couple and then grouped the grouped items I would get strange results when I bring them to my printer software. My way around this is that once I have groups of groups grouped the way I wanted it to look in Tinker Cad, I would select everything, ungroup until I can't anymore, then just group everything all at once. It took a while sometimes, but this way I'm making one object with a bunch of components, rather than multiple grouped objects trying to group into one big one. Thanks for your help on this tutorial, I'm going to give it a try.

      This video touches on what you are saying about smart grouping. Using parts is slick too. ruclips.net/video/wP7TUabWTqw/видео.html

    Can you do one for O-scale

    • @HLModTech
      @HLModTech  3 месяца назад +1

      I think you could do the same process, but you need to scale it to 1/4 inch = 1 foot. I can check the math for making that metric if you wish.

    @HL ModTech: How do you calculate N-Scale? Do you simply start with a measurement in meters and then * 100 / 160? I could see that working after you made something, like if you knew the width of your house was 4 meters, you could do 4 * 100 / 160 = Number of centimeters in Tinkercad. But I could be way off.

      That is a good question. I was working off someones project... so I am not sure. I will do some looking and see if I can come up with a good answer for you.

    Thanks for this video, very useful s always, do you know how to do textures in Tinkercad, 'I'm looking to create a granite type block and cant seem to find a solution for it and I've been meaning to ask for a while what software do you use to create your videos and have that imagery of yourself overlaid in the video, its much better than the pop our window that you see normally. cheers from Spain.,...thanks.

      Thanks for the kudos. Are you thinking rough granite... so it would be a texture and then you would paint it? I use Camtasia for my videos.

      @@HLModTech yes I was trying to think about creating some type of "slip" tiles in the shape of granite type castle blocks that I wanted to use, you can then stick them to a wall, apply paints and you have a sort of pseudo stone wall effect like around a door with an arch above . i have a couple of very large format printers 600mm beds and was going to print them on that.
      What I dont want to do is spends hours and hours trying to master Blender for a one off project when I kow tinkercad fairly well....
      i wondered on the camtasia app, i have used it briefly but not that function, i think its a really good way to show the narrator, much more elegant than the awful PIP you normally get, just goes wonky a little when you gesticulate 😄
      thanks for the info and keep up the videos, i enjoy them and your teaching is very good., thank you....

      @HLModTech  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the extra info. I will see what I can come up with. if I create one "block" about 4cm by 6cm... is that a good size to start at?

    • @sitgesvillaapartmentneilsc7924
      @sitgesvillaapartmentneilsc7924 2 года назад +1

      @@HLModTech that would be great , thank you, in reality I would plan to use a slice of that about 1cm deep, that would then print and be attached to the wall, there is one user on Tinkercad I have found that has produced something similar to what i was wanting. XornXenophon is the person and in his gallery is a stone arch. blocks and all sorts of materials for use in dioramas including the arched blocks that I would like to try as slips. They are very good but just lack that final smoothness that aged or dressed stone has.
      I have copied this and on some of the designs he has I have been able to ungroup some of the "blocks" and seen how a lot of it has been constructed however the problem still remains that they are made from the basic build blocks of Tinkercad and no radius's have been applied which results in a sharp surface as far as I can see, this is where i am wondering that a program like Blender comes into its own, it takes polygons and manipulates them with textures that give you the lifelike appearance, sadly i dont know whether we can do this in Tinkercad. It does have its limitations and this could be one.
      There must be however a alternate way in Tinkercad to try and replicate some form of texturing after all Fusion can do it to a fashion but I haven't moved over to that as Tinkercad fulfills nearly everything that I want to do up until I came across this problem.
      If you can help in any way it would be brilliant and a good exercise for honing your skills more and a fantastic tutorial for your Channel I am sure.
      I'm spiritburnerSpain on there. cheers Mike. Neil.

      That would be a personal preference as you set the measurements for the shape. I am not sure the texture would truly be legit... but it would look decent in a train set I believe.
