  • Starlet turbo build. I've made a plug and play harness to fit the ECUmaster Det 3 piggyback computer to my EP91 Starlet 4efe. One step closer to Turbo time!
    42 pin header: 175446-6,
    26 pin plug: 917992-6,
    16 pin plug: 917981-6,
    Small contact crimp: 175265-1,
    Large contact crimp: 175269-1.
    Open barrel splice: 63130-2
Raychem Spec44 wire, 18 AWG for the larger contacts and 20 AWG for the smalls.

No worries, the video I made in the link above shows the wiring for DET3 to Toyota Starlet EP91 in great detail

Thanks mate, my aim is to upload one video per week. 5efe turbo sounds awesome, hope to find a 5efe myself but they're quite rare at the moment. Glad you like the vid's, don't forget to like and subscribe, it really helps out. Cheers :-)

Lovely, why didnt you consider a speeduino standalone instead? just curious

The speeduino would require alot more tuning as you have to start from scratch / base map. The piggyback is easier to use for a non tuner like myself as all you do is slightly modify the Toyota signals. Also if you do the basic install it will be a lot quicker to get up and running. If I go for a forged build in the future I will go standalone for the increased control, but for this particular stage of the build, a piggyback ECU is fine for me. Good question!

I will probably do the same job as I managed to buy the female 4efte ECU connectors. How do you get rid of the JDM stock ECU speed limiter which is factory set at 112 MPH? The signal is picked from the analog cable going through the cluster. Hope you can help. Great videos!

Thanks Frankie. There are 2 ways to remove the speed limiter on the 4efte. If you have a look at the HKS speed limit defencer it modifies the electronic speed signal going in to the ecu (I think this is best). There are mechanical devices as well, but these convert the speedometer cable rotations from the gearbox to a slower speed and will make the speedo dial read in mph!

Thank you. If I buy the electronica device I will be able to push to speed without limits or I will just transpose it higher? Will I still read the correct kilometers per hour on the cluster?

@@frankieflowers4732 The sld removes speed limit. I have checked the HKS website and it says it only works on 4efte manual gearbox cars. Yours was a 4efte auto swap to corolla, so it may not work. Might be best to email HKS to ask them before buying anything.

You are very correct and I was so impulsive to buy it before asking the company. I wrote them yesterday but nobody answered in 36 hours. I spent €180. There is no version for a automatic transmission ECU. I checked the website options and it is only for manual transmission. There must be a way to work around it.

PS. I swapped the engine keeping the 4efe manual tranny so we can consider it manual gearbox. The only difference is that the ECU thinks automatic but is eluded. .

Can you please provide a brand or a link with the exact model of female receptacles needed?

The parts are listed in the description of the video friend ;-)
AMP or TE brand, 2 different sizes:
      Small contact crimp: 175265-1,
      Large contact crimp: 175269-1.

I have a simple question. Is the Det 3 able to eliminate the speed limiter? My mapper told me so. Thing is that I already bought the SPL. What should I do?

    • @dan91sgarage

If the vehicle speed sensor signal is a frequency you can clamp it using the Frequency configuration set on "Clamp vss frequency signal". You can still adjust fuel in the fuel table.
If the speed sensor signal is a variable voltage the det 3 can clamp it but then you can't adjust the fuel in the fuel table because the det 3 can only clamp or modify one voltage signal at a time.

I practically bought it for nothing. The same function is included in the Det 3.
