"Parad" in "Kort Parad" would in regular Swedish not usually bring "parry" to mind. "Parad" can be used in sports, especially in fencing, to mean a parry but outside fencing this is mostly used when goalies in various sports make saves/parries with their feet/legs, "fotparad". There is another meaning to "parad" too, associated with equestrianism, that fits rather well with this maneuver though. In this meaning "parad" means "a quick change from movement to stand still".
"Kort parad" or "short parry" in Swedish is what we English speakers call a "beat parry" - when you use a brief stroke of your sword in fencing to beat the opponent's sword out of the way in order to create an opening for a riposte. Like the beat parry in actual fencing, it's a high-risk, high-reward maneuver because if you succeed you can win quickly but if you fail you're extremely vulnerable.

It's a really, really situational maneuver. If not done in the right opportunity the opponent could easily pick you off with guns, because you would reduce your speed, maneuverability and would also become a way bigger target for him.

Eehh not really. Getting into a dogfight is insanely rare but I wouldn’t say the high off-aspect missiles killed the cobra. only carry 2 short range HOBS missiles. Avoid those you need to use your guns. From there you get in a slow speed scissoring type fight and using the cobra when your opponent starts his turn towards you usually avoids their guns and gives you an advantageous position. It’s never going to happen cause 9/10 times both parties would fire their missiles BVR until they both run out of fuel/ missiles and goes home or untill one or both get hit.
The fuck do you mean? It completely justifies the cobra? You can't sustain energy like the western doctrine says with HOBS missiles because they will just kill you, they are extremely advanced missiles, the way you avoid them, is by bleeding your speed, and being slower than your opponent so they fly out in front of you, ideally if you both bleed speed you'll be so close to each other the HOBS missile can't pull in the small radius between you and the other jet, that's why WITH HOBS missiles anything other than a one circle slow speed fight is suicide

Would be interesting to know that Swedish pilots developed the manoeuvre in order to bleed enough speed when landing. The J35, unlike the following Swedish jets, had a double delta wing and no canards, thus it was very unstable and hard to fly at low speeds, needing a high angle of attack to provide enough lift. So, in order to be able to land without having to fight with the controls too much, they figured out that pitching higher up while on the final approach then pitching back down allowed them to get lined up with the runway and do all the pre-landing checks and higher speeds where the plane was easier to control, and then lose speed for landing by using the whole plane as a giant air brake. This, in terms, allowed for safer landings since the pilot had to fight the controls of the plane only on the last part of the landing.
Cobra should always be done as a last ditch when you don't have a second enemy capable of taking advantage of your deceleration and shooting a missile or even cannons at you
this is why when technology advances enough unmanned fighter jets are going to be the new thing. they will be able to pull off stuff like this but much more dramatic like 20+ G maneuvers.
The cobra is the ultimate in basically praying a crazy thing works because if they respond quick and bring their nose up you’re an easy target and if they choose to pull off into the vertical at an angle you’re screwed from lack of energy.
It's what Maverick did in the original "Top Gun", since I'd say 80% of the USA population has seen it, it makes a perfect example of this maneuver... Maverick's RIO (the guy in back-who it is, I can't remember, but not Goose, it's only been 30 yrs or so!). So h8s RIO says "Mav, they're gaining on us!!" , "They're gonna in [missile?] range!" And/or something close to "we gotta get outta here!" Mav replies "I'm bringing 'em in closer." RIO says "GOD you're WHAT!!??" He didn't go up to a full-stall, but it worked. Nice video by the way! I love all your Navy, Air Force... Forces videos! 🎉
In war thunder if you decrease thrust then press S, D-A, E-Q, or pitch up roll to a side and yaw to the same side you can do a similar manuver gor much longer
Im gonna add that the cobra manuver was invented as a means to prevent a "super stall" Which happens quite often in delta wing configurations such as on the J35. The pilots developed it as for the purpose previously mentioned, and was later seen as a "combat manuver"
Am I the only one who thinks that the days of dogfights using bullets are over. I just can't see a war in there modern times with one aircraft shooting bullets at another high powered aircraft.
Cobra doesnt work on a dog fight. It literally creates a bigger target for your enemy. It gets you closer AND wider to their guns, the opposite of what you want.
THANK YOU for calling it a last ditch maneuver. I’ve used cobras in sims for only two reasons. 1: 1v1s with friends as I’m about to die, so go out in style because it’s funny and sometimes you can get lucky and they will ram you. And 2: a BALLSY attempt to get a high off bore sight missile onto a target in a 2 circle (varying degrees of success)
It's actually much safer and tactically effective to momentarily pull your ethernet cable. Done properly, you'll not expose your plane as an oblique target but instead vanish immediately. IF you are not summarily disconnected, when you reinsert your cable, you will still have lost all your valuable kinetic energy and you'll be travelling at about 150 knots 1/4 mile behind your opponent, giving you plenty of time to safely eject before he comes around and splats you.
The cobra maneuver is like those fancy knife moves self defense instructors love to talk about. It's a super niche thing that's nigh useless in most situations and can possibly get you killed if used for real, but since it looks cool and dramatic it gets talked about a lot. In reality using that will prob just get you sidewinder'd.

addition, cobra is specifically is doing what you described without a high change in altitude. thats what seperates “cobra” from just a pullup
Altitude = Life
Speed = Strength
this is why when technology advances enough unmanned fighter jets are going to be the new thing. they will be able to pull off stuff like this but much more dramatic like 20+ G maneuvers.
I am living in Sweden, and in the middle of the 60ths Draken fighter was probably the best in the world.
That is the PERFECT name for this
That speed would tear of the wings
Free bird playing in the background!!!!😂
The maneuver looks very cool yet very dangerous...
It also *MIGHT* completely rip your wing(s) off. 💀
Yeah, you basically have to force a flat spin to Cobra, even in the J35.
Imagine the stress on the airframe...
I can’t imagine a fighter pilot splitting throttles and going cobra maneuvers like they were Maverick survives long in combat
"short parry" is crazy
Im gonna add that the cobra manuver was invented as a means to prevent a "super stall" Which happens quite often in delta wing configurations such as on the J35. The pilots developed it as for the purpose previously mentioned, and was later seen as a "combat manuver"
>
I invented this maneuver in GTA San Andreas.
Tom Cruises nailed it
I like this representation of modern air combat. Very believable.
Russians used it for the Su-27 Super Flanker naming it, the Pugachev Cobra
They wernt first tho
they weren't the ones that discovered it, they just tried to claim the cred for it
Thought it was Maverick amd Goose who created the cobra.
In real life: Enemy has the perfectly lined up spot to the biggest slowest possible target.
I like that you used the draken as I think it’s the first vehicle to be able to do it
That’s how the soviets got the idea. Sweden were trolling them when they came to close to the border
Makes you a sitting duck. Speed is Life.
Man took me out completely with the tailerons going the wrong way
I have never been more proud to be Swedish
I don't want to die without seeing a demonstration of this with a F22
he’s pulling up fast, i pull up fast😂 we both dying
"Kort parad" directly translates to "Short parade" rather than parry
bro that draken was going like mach 2 how did bro do a cobra😭🙏
It's actually much safer and tactically effective to momentarily pull your ethernet cable. Done properly, you'll not expose your plane as an oblique target but instead vanish immediately. IF you are not summarily disconnected, when you reinsert your cable, you will still have lost all your valuable kinetic energy and you'll be travelling at about 150 knots 1/4 mile behind your opponent, giving you plenty of time to safely eject before he comes around and splats you.
“at a moderate speed” hey mav, how fast are we going?- oh just 3000 mph😊
In terms of maximum speed, if I recall this short's research correctly:-)
@@KingsandGenerals ok!
It definitely works!
...in movies...
