@ReturnoftheBrotha It's an accurate comparison, both cities have been highly gentrified(NYC more-so) and are two of the most expensive cities in the US
@ReturnoftheBrotha The top city? Buddy we don't give a fuck about "NYC acceptance" get off your high horse, most people here are pretty neutral to NYC, and if not then many dislike it. We don't give a shit about acceptance from NYC, while NYC ranks higher in population and GDP, we prefer being a smaller metro area. Most Bostonians hate the idea of have giant towering skyscrapers and being as big as NYC. Connecticut is clearly NOT in the Boston metro area for obvious geographic reasons. The reason why Bostonians/New Englanders get frustrated with CT is because it is technically in New England, but many are NY sports fans. It's pearly about sports, and really not to be taken seriously. It seems you're basing the cities strictly by city population and not by other metrics. NYC is in a tier of its own for population, no American city compares. Houston may be larger than Boston in population, but it's also 600 sq. miles while Boston is only 48 sq miles of land. Both have comparable metro areas. Economically Philly and Houston don't really compare to Boston, according to the GFCI(the most reliable source for ranking of financial centres, and is used by the UN and World Bank) Boston is the 18th financial centre in the world, while Houston or Philly are not top 100. The only other US cities that make it into the top 100 are NYC(obviously first in the world), SF, LA, and DC. Trust me, Bostonians DO NOT want to be like NYC, in fact we pride ourselves on not being like NYC. OP was simply just comparing how both NYC and Boston have been highly gentrified in recent decades, which is very true. SF would probably be a worse comparison in this predicament because it has been more gentrified than both of the two.
@ReturnoftheBrotha Boston's population is small because it has small city borders. It's only 48 square miles of land, while most major cities in the US are 300-600. Boston is still the 6th largest statistical region area in the country, and is the 18th largest financial hub in the world. You're really full of yourself with the New York talk. Bostonians do not want to be like New York, nor do we want to rival with them. In fact I hear New Yorkers talk shit about Boston more often than Bostonians. Your talk about "Boston always want to be rivals with New York" just shows how sheltered you are. No Celtics fan wants to be rivals with the knicks, nor could that team ever compare to the Celtics, currently or historically. Honestly your lack of knowledge about Boston takes away your legitimacy in this argument. Boston is famous because it is where the USA started, and was the largest metro area in the colonial days, and is still one of the largest financial centers and metro areas in the US, while also leading the country in industries like biotech, education, and medicine. Your jabbering about Connecticut is irrelevent. Western Connecticut generally goes for New York teams, while eastern Connecticut goes for Boston/New England teams because of basic geographic reasons, it ends there. Your pretentiousness is really unnecessary, and quite frankly nativist bullshit. I seldom hear people in Massachusetts talk about New York, let alone compare ourselves to you. We didn't know your governor either, and we really don't give a shit about you guys unless it comes to sports. I could go talk about how Massachusetts has the best HDI, education system, colleges, healthcare system etc. but it's pretentious and honestly petty. Just stop comparing Boston to New York. In terms of tiers or categories, Boston is in a tier of its own. We're the start of this nation and have history that no other city in the country has. Just like it was shown in this video, Boston obtains a style and heritage of this nations history that no other city has, not even New York. And that last part is honestly just silly. Build a new city in Maine? It would take centuries to build a metropolitan area the size of Boston, that also serves as one of the largest financial hubs in the world, and leads multiple industries in the country.
@ReturnoftheBrotha seriously, we don't care about ny that much... btw i know people from greenwich and stamford who identify as "New Englanders" and route for boston teams. Politically CT is more in tune with Mass as well because it is a small state that puts more importance on local government, which is a big reason why New England states are grouped together.
