    The original version was a warning, Disturbed's cover is anger and PTX's is one of hope. Their Bohemian Rhapsody, Shallow and Havana are great also.

    Pentatonix has this habit of taking a song and making it - better. Songs that you've grown tired of, or even just never liked, are given new life by these wondrous musicians.

    Simon and Garfunkel wrote a song of warning, Disturbed covered to admonish people for not listening, and Pentatonix came along and offered hope for the future.

      Great choices! I'm still madly loving Mad World and Imagine was just awesome the way they added another dimension to John Lennon's message, I Rise is an anthem! And Happy Now is so interesting they way they played with the video and the idea of permission to be...happy!

    many thanks to Simon & Garfunkel for writing & recording this classic warning to an increasingly isolated, non-responsive society....remember, that was 50 + years ago ! ....they made it possible for Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to reinterpret this for an even "colder" society.....and Mitch's counter-tenor voice, even higher than Kirsty's, carries the performance.....

    Hi Pandora,
    Pentatonix has many covers from different genres, from classic rock to K-Pop. It just depends on what mood you happen to be in today. If you need your faith in humanity restored, go to their cover of Imagine. If you need your spirit to soar, try The Prayer or Amazing Grace. PTX originals are really cool as well, Sing, Happy Now and Coffee in Bed are some of my favorites. The song that has probably created more Pentaholix than any, Hallelujah, with 719 million views is quite powerful. But, the thing that you really need to know, is that they own Christmas. Almost any Christmas song you’ve ever heard, and some you haven’t, has been covered by PTX. They always put their own spin on the classics and update the old. One member has changed, the original bass left in 2017 (Avi, white dude with a beard), and was replaced by Matt (black baby face). I look forward to sharing more with you.

    Pentatonix aka PTX is awesome. So glad you liked this. Great facial expressions. I see you got goosebumps when you heard Matt's lead....the bass. I know some people say the lyrics don't match the emotion of the way they sang it. I have a different take. I believe they are alerting people to the problems mentioned in the lyrics. They want to get the people's attention about the plights of so many of the people portrayed in these lyrics. So rather than joy....I say they are announcing to the world to pay attention! I just subbed.

    The first time I heard Pentatonix’s version of this song I liked it but for some reason tonight when I listened to it I realized how great it was. I’m not a religious guy but I love, love their version of Hallelujah and the religious aspects of that song don’t bother me. In this song, particularly at the end, I got a sense of Christian revival but I enjoyed it, which surprises me. Maybe I’ve joined the Church of Pentatonix, where harmonious a cappella reigns.

    I love both the Pentatonix and Disturbed interpretations of this song, for very different reasons. The PTX harmonies are incredible and flawless, and Disturbed captures the darkness of the lyrics better than any version I've heard. Which one I like best at any given time depends on my mood that day. You really can't miss with either.

    The fact that PTX can make such beautiful music without instruments is mind blowing.

  • @user-yh8ik3xw8s
    @user-yh8ik3xw8s 8 месяцев назад +1

    The original singer/composer of this piece is Simon and Garfunkel in 1964, and their interpretation is that of a warning. Disturbed was the next group to cover it in 2015, and this interpretation brings out the underlying anger of the song a lot more clearly than the original. Lastly, in 2019, PTX (pronounced Pentah Tonics, penta meaning 5 + tones), covers this piece with hope. The tall blond is Scott Hoying - Baritone; the girl is Kirsten Maldonado - Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi - Counter-Tenor; The guy with the white jacket is Matt Sallee - Basso-Profundo; the beatboxer is Kevin Olusola who is a Tenor and Cellist, and Cellist Beatboxer.

      @thechomiji 6 месяцев назад

      Matt is a bass, but _not_ a basso profundo like Avi was. I personally think that Matt is a better fit for the group, but his voice is not the same as Avi's.

      I did not know that matt was also a bosso profundo. PTX started carrying their own speakers because all the kept blowing out the ones provided. There is video of this parody the most notable 1 is In a video where they see hit the road jack. I did not know that is considered a basso profundo. Thank you for the information

    All the versions of this song are incredible. Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunckle) is such a wordsmith and is almost untouchable. You are right the vibe of Simon and Garfunckle, Disturbed, and PTX are rerally not comparable, they are so different in the vibe.

    Pentatonix & Nightwish ... 2 very different groups I discovered through RUclips reactors & now I'm hooked!!
    It's a bit cliche, but it's so true: many say Pentatonix don't sing covers, they sing upgrades! - they also officially (my humble opinion!) own Christmas these days!
    Hope you keep going with these: you'll never pick a bad song! - I can't pick just 1 to suggest!:
    Imagine & Say something - brilliant & emotional upgrades
    Be my eyes - beautiful original music, Kirstin- led (& written!)
    The Prayer - Christmas, uplifting & epic!
    Loads of love here from the UK! ❤❤😁😁

    Great reaction! Disturbed did such a great but unusual adaptation of the song. It was so unique and different from the original that it is almost it's own thing. This is more like a direct cover of Simon and Garfunkel, but they PTX'd it, as they do. So beautiful and hopeful!

    I recommend checking out some of their live performances. The best (in my opinion) recent concert was Hollywood Bowl 2022. Look for the live steam version - best sound and video quality. They perform many of their ‘classics’ - Sound of Silence, Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Daft Punk, and 90s Dance Medley. Awesome concert.

    First I want to say thank you for not pausing every 5 or 10 seconds to comment like most of the reactions I have listened to. Sometimes I think they just want to hear themselves talk or make us think they are intelligent. But you let us listen to the video with you and let us enjoy your reaction and then you comment on the video after it is over. You are definitely the one I will subscribe to. I don't know if you had the chance to check out Pentatonix Hallelujah or Amazing Grace but you should. Also you should check out Home Free videos.

  • @Badger77722

    A couple of notes on this version of the song and Pentatonix: this is the "newer" version of the group than what you saw in Hallelujah. That was the original set of members, with Avi Kaplan (bass, lowest male voice range) singing the second verse. This version of the group has Matt Sallee singing bass and the third verse, where he only drops into bass at the last couple of notes. Avi left PTX in 2017 and now has a solo career, and Matt joined as the "new" bass in 2017/2018 (depending on how you count it). That is the only member change in the group's history - everyone else is the same as Hallelujah, though Mitch (2nd singer, high tenor/counter tenor) and Kirstie (4th singer, mezzo soprano) look pretty different here than in the earlier song - not unusual for those two!
    The "dum, dum, dum" notes at the end of each verse are called bell tones, and are something you'll hear a lot of with a cappella groups. It's usually used to imitate an instrument, often a piano or guitar. You'll hear another example of them if you listen to Pentatonix's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
    As wbw910 said, there's a way of looking at the S&G, Disturbed, and Pentatonix versions of the song as sort of a journey through time of how they were meant to be taken and interpreted. To hear a version that is sort of a mournful one (you didn't take the warning seriously enough), but ending with a hopeful note, try Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci's version. Geoff is the base singer for the a cappella group VoicePlay (recommended!), but also does solo work, and his take on the song is pretty unique. ruclips.net/video/lyekSI_4Qlc/видео.html

    Great reactions. PTX is amazing. They have won 3 Grammys, Daft Punk medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and a duet with Jolene with Dolly Parton. Very Different genres. If you like songs like these maybe try Imagine, Amazing Grace, The Prayer, Say Something. If you like fun maybe Havana, Can’t Hold Us, Perfume Medleys. Bohemian Rhapsody is epic. If you want to check out their original stuff I like Sing, Coffee in Bed, Love Again and Water ( best way to see Water is in their PopSpring 2016 video of 4 songs. 3 are original.) PTX never disappoints. I was not a fan of “ Oh Come All Ye Faithful” until I heard their version. Also try Mary Did you Know, Little Drummer Boy and The Grinch.
