  • Crashgate remains one of the most controversial events in Formula 1 history, but 15 years later, it seems the story isn't over. Felipe Massa is reportedly considering legal action to challenge the result of the 2008 championship based on some new information around Crashgate. Let us explain...

The point is he could not litigate it back then. The rule is once the trophy was awarded you cannot litigate it. New evidence has come to light that he should have had the opportunity to challenge the result. The pit stop fuel line for Ferrari is IRRELEVANT...once an event is manipulated to such a large extent then the final result must become NULL AND VOID even IF MASSA WON. Yes, the final race result must be DISCARDED. Even if Alonso retired and Massa maintained his position the race result is tainted. This is what nobody seems to understand. Under the rules the race should be decided on track position when the crash occurred as if it had been stopped and restarted. If the race director had known the crash was deliberate he would have stopped the race. This is the only just outcome under these extraordinary circumstances. I really think that Massa has a strong case.

I have always thought the Piquet crash was a brilliant bit of strategy, no joke. It was F1's mistake creating a situation where a team could game the rules to gain such an advantage.
As far as Massa goes, this will be thrown out of court despite Bernie's admission he knew after the fact what had happened. What is more interesting is they did nothing until Piquet spilled the beans months later. As stated in other comments, vacate the win for Alonso (and prove Alonso knew beforehand what Piquet was going to do) and Hamilton wins anyway.

If anything You would disqualify Renault from that race but that doesn't change the championship, does it? I don't know how anyone could possibly argue one team's dirty strategy is a bigger scandal than F1 itself fixing a race and a championship, Right in front of everybody, and allowing the result to stand, even after it was discovered They were the only team cheating on the cost cap that they were the ones insisting be implemented that year. Complete abandonment of morals, ethics, integrity, credibility, what a disgrace it's become.

Is this this the same season when Hamilton got run off the track by Massa and got penalised for gaining an advantage? Sounds like sour grapes to me. Hamilton got the reverse in Abu Dhabi. I would say all even.

Isn’t intentionally crashing incredibly dangerous? He could have killed himself.

Take Alonso out of result, Hamilton wins (correctly) and he's the champion.
For Massa to be crowned champion then Abu Dhabi means Hamilton would be champ.
Chsnge rules regarding CAS, they were made when Bernie and Max played favourites with Ferrari, Max hated Ron Dennis and everyone had to kneel to the Kings, a fiefdom basically Send it all to CAS, let them sort it out. I'm certain Abu Dhabi would be called out, not sure re Massa cos its s race he was beaten fairly and squarely by Hamilton. Driving off with a hose attached isn't affected by when the SC was released. Hamilton is always strong on pressure, new tracks, wet tracks and the like. Massa and pressure isn't a strong point.
Either way, to go back 15years later ESPECIALLY when you've seen Abu Dhabi '21 just seems ridiculous. Massa wasn't quite good enough when his car clearly was. Ferrari had best car for season or 3 in them days!
