Hello! This time, we will introduce Tanukikoji, a shopping street in Sapporo, Hokkaido, where history and tradition live on.
Tanukikoji was founded in 1873 and is an arcade shopping street with over 150 years of history. It stretches for about 900 meters from 1-chome to 7-chome, and is lined with about 200 stores, including shops selling local specialties and souvenirs, restaurants, cafes, bars, and amusement facilities. The charm of this shopping street is that you can enjoy shopping and strolling comfortably even on rainy or snowy days.
The name of the shopping street comes from the adorable raccoon dog. You can find objects and art with raccoon motifs all over the shopping street. In addition, events and festivals are held every season, and the summer festival and winter illuminations are especially must-sees.
