I don’t own any Hermessence as they have always been too pricey for me. Christine Nagel replaced JCE as the in house perfumer at Hermès. His style was pretty ethereal in those years. I do like Ambre Narguile and if it was in my budget I would buy it and wear it - I can live with 5 hours of longevity for something I really like. “Performance “ isn’t really a major part of my perfume vocabulary (either is “compliment getter”, for that matter.). I wear my perfumes for my own enjoyment and if one disappears in the afternoon that just means I have a blank canvas for the evening!!
It's always great to have alternatives to fragrances , for many reasons. Price / discontinuations&re formulations. So this was fantastic you gave other options where some people would have just bashed the fragrance 🙏 appreciate that!

I love AN! It lasts so long on me, the dry down is what I love most about it actually, so I don’t mind the initial notes fading. My issue is I can’t find it anywhere. My local H is sol out and the website is sold out as well. I really hope it hasn’t been discontinued.
I love AN, got a set of travel vials and lasts 8 hrs easily on my skin...looking for a bottle but 100ml is quite expensive around $200+ I have Oajan and agree it’s a great frag! Surprising thing is it required maceration...after a few Initial wearings, when I came back to it after a few months, profile had changed for the better. Extremely long lasting, It hangs around for 18+ hrs on my skin. Another good option - Khaltat Night by Attar Collection, some Middle Eastern house. Smells very similar.
C’mon Sebastian you often rep niche houses that charge $250 for 50 mils. By this math a 200 mils bottle would run $1000 and a Roja could cost up to $3,000! I understand though if the performance is underwhelming and if there are more interesting choices out there for more reasonable coin. Great vid as always! Happy New Year!
I do smell tobacco in Narguile,but not in Oajan.While Oajan does outperform Ambre Narguile,Dolcelisir a very low priced alternative smells closer to Ambre Narguile.
Hey Sebastian, do you know Dolcelisir by L'erbolario? It is a clone of Ambre narguilé and smells good even if not as complex as Ambre Narguilé. A better option is Maasai Mara by Berdoues. It smells greats and can be bought for 60-80€ 100ml in Europe!
Farah is definitely a close match to Ambre Naguile. The fruit note is slightly different but otherwise they hit a lot of the same notes. When I bought my bottle of Farah it was one of my best customer service experiences actually. I ordered a 50ml bottle of Farah from their website along with some samples of their other scents. However what they sent me was not the bottle I ordered but instead just another sample of Farah. When I emailed them and pointed out their mistake they compensated me by sending me not a 50ml bottle but instead a 100ml bottle of Farah and they also added in a 50ml bottle of Eau Blance as an extra apology for the initial mixup.
I agree with you, ,Seb....love Ambre Narguile, but once it's pricey and it doesn't perform well on my skin (4-hours or so) and sticks pretty close to the skin after 30-minutes. L'Erbolario Dolcelisir is 90% similar, smells fantastic, and only cost a small fraction. Moreover, Oajan kicks like a rule and lasts all day and night on my skin. I don't like the scent quite as much as Ambre Narguille, but it's 95% similar and I can smell it on my skin the next morning. Cheers.
I just tested AN at the boutique. Two sprays and it lasted ALL day. I washed it off and I can still smell it. You might not smell it but people around you can smell it I guarantee it.
I disagree but I think we just have different criteria for what performance and craftsmanship actually are. I’ll take 5 hours of this over 12 hours of a clone that dries down to pure fixatives after 2 hours. I really don’t like PDM, I don’t think they smell of great quality but I know I’m in the minority. This tells a story to me and Oajan just fills a room... just my opinion. There’s a reason why the original Mona Lisa is in the louvre and a google image has no worth. But art appreciation is always subjective. Love this kind of video though, it really starts healthy conversation...
I did say it smells great but I prefer a longer lasting fragrance. I think the price is outrageous for what you get. If this fragrance was in their regular lineup it would be perfect. :)
5hrs would be nice I see about 2 lovely hrs maybe.. and I don’t want a clone of any scent I believe most houses and their perfumers/creators are developing their scent their fragrance with their ingredients some may smell similar some may have less oils/extraits some may have less quality ingredients. When you have a beautiful fragrance wear away so quickly it seems it never got a chance to fully develop
Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews Kinda a side topic here, though have you noticed it smells different than when it first came out? To me, the “original” was more warm and Amber-rich, where now, the most recent bottle I purchased this year seems to my nose to be more spice-forward, and less of the warm-Amber.

Oajan is a nice fragrance but i don't think it's even close to Ambre Narguilé in smell. If you really need a dupe i think Dolcelisir by L'Erbolario comes closest but i'd spring for the original, even if it's just the 15ml travel spray set (definitely get poivre samarcande and vetiver tonka as well, then)

I think Hermes justifies the price of the Hermessence line by having the leather cap--the smaller 15 ml bottles sold on their website are much closer in price to their regular line. Seems ridiculous. I am crazy for Galop, which runs for $200+ for a 50 ml bottle--at least that is a pure parfum.
Do you know of any longer lasting fragrances similar to hermes l'ambre de merveilles? It doesn't last very long either, but it is so beautiful. It's hard to justify spending money on something that only lasts a few hours.
Thankfully i got my 100ml A.N for around half price a few years ago, about £100 in the u.k, I didn’t use it much because it didn’t last that long but when I finished it i got dolcelisir and that’s good stuff for just £30 for 100ml, i got Oajan about a year ago too and LOVE it, also have Daniel Josier Ambre Tabac which is also very similar and stronger than A.N for half the price.

Putting Ambre Narguile next to Oajan is like putting ballet next to marshal arts: you know which one is stronger and you know which one is more elegant :) I'll take Ambre Narguile over Oajan any day: yes, PDMs have great performance but that's about it!

Santal massoia is my favorite smell in the world, but has piss poor performance. I just can't find anything else like it. The milk, massoia, sandalwood combo is incredible

Everything in Hermes is very expensive . This is consider one of the cheapest items in Hermes 😂I mix Ambre arguile with agar ebene and myrrhe eglatine .. ambre arguile can last the longest among 3 .. to me agar is the bass , ambre is the chords and myrrhe is the melody 😂😂😂
You make a strong case when you come to think about it. Yesterday I wore honey aoud by Montale, I know it’s not the same quality, but you can probably say that they’re the same type of fragrances, so there are replacements for ambre narguile for much cheaper.
I agree with you about this range. What is very difficult is that it is very difficult to sample the Hermessences. And then to buy is so costly. I did not buy the Ambre but I did buy Cedre Sambac. The Cedre performs ok but it is not really one I love so it was a mistake for me. I have lost confidence and I would not spend in this collection without being absolutely certain.

This is one of the big hitters in the Niche community I just cannot stand. I just don't like the marzipan , cherry almond vibe that comes with all these type of fragrances. The tonka is either way too centre-focused in these or they've added them in to creat the aplle-almond marzipan cake vibe. No thanks!
You should stick to Ambre Narguile because Hermes was the first to come up with this scent DNA. It's inadmissible from De Marly to blatantly copy Ambre Narguile and sell it for $300+. I think that the fragrance community should punish these kinds of practices.
Definitely disagree with you. Performs exactly how I need a sweet fragrance to work on me. Anything more would make me feel sick as does Oajan (and other clones) which is so thick and sweet and sickening and makes me feel like a teenage girl. Just my opinion haha

I layer AN with Rose. Happened by accident and wow they smell great together. Very long lasting on me.

Fragrance enthusiasts end up obliterating their sense of smell. I used to be able to small one spritz of anything form 10 feet. Not any more

You should try "l'erbolario dolcelisir". It smells JUST like Ambre Narguille and it's a cheapy.😉

There are differences in the drydown AN has hookah vibes in the drydown where Ojan has more vanilla in the base notes.
I own Oajan, it was my first love from PDM.
For years I hoped they'd make it an edp or extrait. I just cannot justify the price for it being an edt.

Everything in Hermes is very expensive . This is consider one of the cheapest items in Hermes 😂I mix Ambre arguile with agar ebene and myrrhe eglatine .. ambre arguile can last the longest among 3 .. to me agar is the bass , ambre is the chords and myrrhe is the melody 😂😂😂
You make a strong case when you come to think about it. Yesterday I wore honey aoud by Montale, I know it’s not the same quality, but you can probably say that they’re the same type of fragrances, so there are replacements for ambre narguile for much cheaper.

I agree with you about this range. What is very difficult is that it is very difficult to sample the Hermessences. And then to buy is so costly. I did not buy the Ambre but I did buy Cedre Sambac. The Cedre performs ok but it is not really one I love so it was a mistake for me. I have lost confidence and I would not spend in this collection without being absolutely certain.

This is one of the big hitters in the Niche community I just cannot stand. I just don't like the marzipan , cherry almond vibe that comes with all these type of fragrances. The tonka is either way too centre-focused in these or they've added them in to creat the aplle-almond marzipan cake vibe. No thanks!

It's Hermes, everything is high in their boutique.
Hermes is super expensive , anythibg they sell .I beleieve they price perfumes so high so it stays exclusive . They still cheaper than Creed Aventus
You should stick to Ambre Narguile because Hermes was the first to come up with this scent DNA. It's inadmissible from De Marly to blatantly copy Ambre Narguile and sell it for $300+.
I think that the fragrance community should punish these kinds of practices.
Definitely disagree with you. Performs exactly how I need a sweet fragrance to work on me. Anything more would make me feel sick as does Oajan (and other clones) which is so thick and sweet and sickening and makes me feel like a teenage girl. Just my opinion haha
