I just took a hand building pottery class, AND i'm ADDICTED I watch youtube pottery videos from all kinds of artists all the time … and yours are always the best! Thank you for your hard work and inspiration! I want a studio like yours someday!
Your videos are great they aren’t like any other pottery videos I’ve seen and they have really helped me do well and learn how to make good pieces for my high school intro class and I appreciate your step by step tutorials and your videography. Thank you. Thanks to you I have an A+.
I'm a subscriber that found you during the break. I'm a new potter and for now, I just want to center well for goodness sakes. It's so cool to see these mugs, I wanna make pieces that are half as pretty
So happy you are back, but totally understand with new baby! Enjoy these times too. Interested in the crackle so I will be also looking forward to that one. My favorite part of the process is throwing. I brush on glaze so I watch RUclips and videos while while I work. The cake holder I made didn't sell after being out for sale for about a year now it holds my tablet in the studio so I can watch videos and RUclips. I'm sure yours will sell though! Keep doing what you're doing!
Congratulations to your family on your new addition! One of your best creations for sure. I am not sure why, but calling the mug The Knuckle Snuggler sounds fun to me.
I just love your videos. Your channel is just so inspiring. I just started teaching art for middle/highschool because why not give it a whirl. You can do anything for a year. I try to have that same energy and charisma in my classroom that you have given me and so many of us with your lessons. Not sure if this is for me because I truly miss my studio life. I still dream of opening a community studio for my hometown. But anyway, love what you're throwing down and I'm excited for your new videos. Congratulations on the new baby! May the clay gods bless you, your family, and your pots.
Yes you were missed, but I’m so glad you took time off for your family! Can’t wait for the marbling vid.. I never can decide if I wedge it together or insert...
Hey I am glad to find another Minnesota potter. I live north of Brainerd. I am building a giant noborogama kiln this spring. I have been building my studio for three years. Thanks for making a fun channel to watch.
Good to see you back on! Congrats on the safe arrival of the new baby! Hope your wife gets some leave from teaching. My Favourite stage is when it comes to still centred ready to be anything. John, blow 15$ and get welders gloves. Don’t burn your best tools- your hands. Get sleep when you can.
So glad your back ! Your videos are addicting and you have the cutest family. Love seeing Ryder in them with you ! He is the cutest thing on the planet !!! :)
I found your channel because I’m new to pottery and was struggling with some basic stuff. I’m super glad your back I have found that watching you I have been able to lean and have fun at the same time!
Call it “get a grip” mug, “the gripper”, “gripper sipper”, haha love this stuff, “snug mug”, “hand me coffee”, “handle me”, lol love to play with words! Since you have kids “got your fingers” ... instead of got your nose.. oh, maybe “grab-n-go”, “grabber”, um maybe not, “gotta-Joe”, “snug a mug”...k over for now...you asked for it. This is the first time I’ve found our channel. Loved the vibe! I have six sons and you remind me of a couple of them...I love your energy. Here’s my rendition is “KISS”: “keep it simple silly”, or(otherwise) “keep it simply silly”! I’ll be back..
You should send one of your “pocket” mugs to the person whose suggestion you use. I’d call it the comfort mug because it’s always comforting to wrap your hands around a warm/hot mug.
Hey Jon, nice to have you back. I noticed you have your wheel lifted to a height that you can stand at it and throw, I wondered if you would maybe talk about that in a later video? Ergonomics, reducing strain on your body. BTW I love the shot that you cut in to a few times, of you sitting on the chair looking shocked. That is a dad with a two week old baby... I remember that look! Enjoy the baby stage, they grow up so fast. xx
Well, of COURSE your videos were missed, but it is only right that you took some new papa time! PERSONAL PROGRESS REPORT: 6 days after I watched your demo at Art Wander, I got my *second-ever* chance to throw on a wheel. Guess what? I did much better on the first couple of steps than I had on my first throw. Not so great towards the end, but still...PROGRESS!!! I *KNOW* that intently watching you doing your thing helped me "get it" better. I also know that getting to throw for only about 15 minutes once or twice a YEAR is not going to get me where I want to be. So... I bit the bullet! I ordered my own wheel! Woo to the Hoo!!! Thank you *SO MUCH,* @Jonthepotter, for being a great inspiration! Nice stuff in this kiln. Looking forward to seeing more about that blue & green marbled clay and the crackle technique. I like some of the pocket mug name ideas. My votes go to either Hug Mug or Comfy Cozy Mug (of *DESTINY!!!* ). ~~Debz
I think mitten mug works well. Gripper Mug, is also fitting. It is definitely difficult to throw the opposite way. I usually only run into that, when a student has one going the wrong way. It takes me a moment to realize why I am suddenly terrible at throwing. I think your first mug was a bit off, due to your bat not being level. I could hear it wobbling. Also, you have a sagging element in your glaze kiln, that at least needs reppined.
We always miss you when you're away, but you sure had a great reason not to be posting regularly on the RUclipss. :) Also, as far as video desires...I'm always a big fan of a Blooper Reel!!! BLOOPER REEL!
Jon, i love your videos, and i'm sure you get that lot, which you should! you do an awesome job of your work and sharing it, and i'm learning so much. thank you!!
bout time u are back, my daughter is taking a ceramics class in high school now and is working on a coffee mug for me next, she has made a few really nice pieces so far. shes really enjoying her class, I wish I could go back in time n take that class instead of the boring computer classes I took lol
Hi Jon, just wanted to say I thought I had watched all your videos and come across one where at the beginning your trying to talk in a British accent, I found this hilarious and rewound it numerous times. 😂 Good to see you back and your beautiful family. Love your insightful and positive vibes, would love to hear more of your general thoughts. As some for me have been encouraging. My little one now says "what's up guys Jon the Potter here" haha she's only 2. Wishing you all the way from England lots of success and I am sure it will follow you.
Since you suggested you make the mugs for the coffee shop a bit sturdier than mugs for general retail consumption might be, I wonder whether there are differences in the food-safe glazing materials and techniques that might be used for commercial food consumption environments as opposed to retail consumer home use.
Maybe you could ruffle the edge of the hand warming mug? Or make it wavy. At the part you drink from but the edge where you stick your hand in? Love your work love your energy thanks for the inspiration and the videos
Oh yes your videos were missed here 🇬🇧 absent for an excellent reason though! I always look forward to the trimming of pieces, ooh and dipping in glazes ❤️ How about the Hygge mug? Welcome back!
Love the name "Mitten Mug"."The perfect gift to warm hands and hearts this season ." Please remember all of us lefties (3 in my family - would have been 4 but daughter burned her left fingers as toddler, so she went right handed)
Hey you. Good video. Could you do a video about drying times and how long each one takes to dry, and do you suggest covering with plastic? Do larger pots take longer? How do you know when its bone dry? Does it have to be completely dry before you bisque it? If you dry them too fast do they warp? I have so many questions, I can keep you busy making videos for a long time. Lol Thanks Sweetie! Peace, Deb
Hi, John the potter! I love watching your videos and I also love showing your videos to my high school pottery students! Right now they are learning how to throw cylinders. As you know the pulls can be hard and sometimes they get frustrated. Would you make a video to get them stoked to keep going?
Sea shell mug! That's what they look like to me. They look like sea shells, especially if you put a pinkish white glaze in the finger slot, and maybe put a few bumps on the body.
New subscriber and so I didn’t have to wait too long for the video but I’m loving the videos! I’m an elementary art teacher and love pottery. Love your work!
This might be dumb but why not make a large mug with the spirals. When it gets to almost leather hard, cut it down a side, cut the bottom off, overlap one end and shape it to make the pocket. Use the same bottom because the actual size of the mug is smaller than the original. This way the mug keeps a nice consistent shape and forms a neat looking conch like form.
Welcome back! Missed your vids so much, but i knew you were having daddy time ♥ I think you should call the hand warming mug the "protection mug" because it protects your hands from cold, and it kind of looks like a weapon :P Also i can't wait to see how you did that pretty mug handle.. can you do that in the next video? Thanks for all of your hard work, and i can't wait to see what's coming! ♥
Crackle looks awesome! I am trying to figure out the trick before the video, lol. One day I will have a wheel and a kiln and I will be a happy potter, or at least, a less miserable accountant, lol.
Its like putting your hand into a Mitten! Mitten Mug
I just took a hand building pottery class, AND i'm ADDICTED I watch youtube pottery videos from all kinds of artists all the time … and yours are always the best! Thank you for your hard work and inspiration! I want a studio like yours someday!
Looks like a mitten mug, welcome back and congratulations!

We were talking about you in my wheel throwing class! Glad to see you back, congratulations on the new addition!
I'm a subscriber that found you during the break. I'm a new potter and for now, I just want to center well for goodness sakes.
It's so cool to see these mugs, I wanna make pieces that are half as pretty

A typical day in the life of a potter: rolling around in the swivel chair. Love it!
Yes, I've been thinking of you and your family. Glad to see you again
I am a newish potter and I look forward to your videos! Thanks for all of the tips and for the links to equipment. That really helps too.

Of course you were missed! Congrats again! Ideas- how about some large platters for the holidays.
I just found this channel from instagram. So excited to stay tuned just starting my ceramics journey!!!
I am just now realizing I live 14 minutes away from your studio. I definitely plan on visiting some time soon.
Been missing these videos! Love the energy you put out.
Congrats to you and Ma. the Huggie mug? Thanks for sharing. Energised.
Like Hug Mug. Rolls off the tongue well. Cuddle Mug. Catchy.

I agree with K T. "Cuddle Mug" is an awesome name!
Heeder Cup (hand heater/warmer). Heed: One who heeds or pays attention to something.
You asked. 😀
Congratulations on the new kid! Great pots.
The hand warming mug w/spirals c
ould be call the "Clam Shell" mug.
Since you suggested you make the mugs for the coffee shop a bit sturdier than mugs for general retail consumption might be, I wonder whether there are differences in the food-safe glazing materials and techniques that might be used for commercial food consumption environments as opposed to retail consumer home use.
cuddle mug is soooo cute!! awwwww
Can you do a video on your water bucket? If you made it, I am curious about the decisions you made while designing it!
Maybe you could ruffle the edge of the hand warming mug? Or make it wavy. At the part you drink from but the edge where you stick your hand in? Love your work love your energy thanks for the inspiration and the videos

Yup, missed the vids! Welcome back and congratulations again!
Congrats! And welcome back! I like Cuddle Mug or Hug Mug too.
I am rolling!!! I love it all!!!
Sea shell mug! That's what they look like to me. They look like sea shells, especially if you put a pinkish white glaze in the finger slot, and maybe put a few bumps on the body.
Ok...the tail end bloopers/commentary is epic. =)
Welcome back! Congrats on the little one! ☺️
Where's john the potter!! Oh there he is!! Good to see you bk,I've just started throwing pots for my first firing of my new business 😀

Crackle looks awesome! I am trying to figure out the trick before the video, lol. One day I will have a wheel and a kiln and I will be a happy potter, or at least, a less miserable accountant, lol.
Sodium silicate brushed on the surface, dried, then stretched to create the crackle.
Welcome back JTP. Love to know what you fire your kilns to to bisque and glaze?
Jeeeej John!!! Welcome back!!🤸🏿♀️❤️👌 Missed you so much!
Nice to see you back Jon! You could call that mug “keep your hand in your pocket mug”, what do you think? Cheers Bob 🇬🇧
That new mug looks similar to a conch shell, maybe you can call it a conch cozy?
missed the videos. looked every time for a new one;)
Yes!! I missed the videos!!
I like "pocket mug" a lot!
The pocket mugs are lovely! Any chance that you’ll brave a leftie version too?
Missed the videos! Roll out more I need it!!! Love the vids!
Can't believe it was only two weeks, seemed like four. Congrats on the bigger family. How about calling it JTP's "Winter Mug".
