- These colorful, whimsical watercolor sheep were inspired by our little flock of Jacob sheep, and particularly by Larry, who loves his hay and who we found with a pile of it on his head the other day. In this painting he's joined by his mum and his sister, and the three of them are standing under their Christmas stockings waiting for Santa.

What a wonderful way to celebrate some of my favorite sheep. For twenty years, my best friends over the years were bum wethers. And I always felt that they felt was their best friend. The last was Bear. He, like Pooh, was not very bright but had a big and generous heart. And he was goofy. Everyone who knew my sheep loved Bear.
Bear must have been like Larry. The Loveable Lummock!!!

I love the whimsy of these multi colored sheep. I added the gold to the wool and the tree branches, but left out the stockings…. Since it is after Christmas. It turned out adorable. I have often been told my work is whimsical, but this takes it to a higher, more fun level. Thank you….. happy new year!

Diane, these sheep are so cute and their faces are very expressive. In fact, Dora's face looks like Queen Elizabeth. (No disrespect indended) I'm from the USA and was very sad at her passing. Yes, well Larry is the first born son of Dora, so you can imagine how he feels stuck between her and his sister Cora!! He's also a bit of a twuzzock so never does the right thing. Hence the hay on his head in the video!

I love your commentary; so please keep that, even if it makes the videos longer. I love how free this painting is. It’s so playful! The string across the tops of the trees reminds me of the Christmas tree sales lots we have here. They often run a string of lights around the outside of the lot, sometimes from tree to tree. So, to me, it almost looks like the sheep are out shopping for a Christmas tree! 😄 It wouldn’t be unusual for there to be other Christmas decorations hanging about either, including stockings. When we were painting a bird a day, I put the eyes too low on one. I had a think and decided to turn the eyes into sunglasses and penned in some eyes above the sunglasses so it looked like the bird was looking out over the top of the glasses. I loved the results! 😄

Just put the heads lower down and the sheep's shoulders up by their ears. Makes a lot of difference! Have fun!

Oh well, sorry about that! I tend to look on these painting videos as just ideas that people can interpret in their own way. When I look on our group on Facebook and see the wonderful versions that folks create by taking my prompt and developing it with care into something special, I do feel it's all worthwhile. Often their versions are much better than my original painting. I always work in real time, rather than pretending that what took me half an hour actually only took three minutes, like some of the tutors out there. So that's why sometimes the paintings seem to be somewhat hastily finished, to keep to the shortish timeframe people (and RUclips) expect. The idea of this painting was based on three whimsical Jacobs sheep like the other ones I've done this year, only this time in different colored coats (like Jacob and his Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat) and with their stockings hanging up for Santa. The painting details weren't important to me. I'd love to see your version of this painting on Facebook sometime! Seasons greetings and keep well! xx

You'll have to let me know if I go too fast Donna. It's a tricky one to get it exactly right for everyone. I can only suggest that you re-run the video if you miss something. I often do that myself, for example on cooking videos... Happy Holidays!
