- The most basic of field gear items, with some explanation and information from the Reibert. I also show how to fold your zeltbahn.
I am a scale modeller and this was very informative thank you!
Agree!
What you do helps contribute to preserving history. Even if it is small stuff, it's still important for humanity. I hope you get to hear that from time to time!
I was trying to find a video like this forever. You deserve more credit for what you’re doing. Thank you for the awesome video. Keep up the good work definitely gonna follow you.
Ngl this might seem weird to others but military gear to me how it works is satisfying
I didn’t know what half of these things were called. This video was EXTREMELY helpful! Keep up the good work, and thank you!
This is a great resource for drawing such uniforms.
the loose straps from the Y straps can be used as extra suspension. Just unbutton it and then loop it behind your ammo pouches on each side to get 5 points instead of 3 points of suspension. Also you can double loop your gas mask canister, it brings it tighter to the body.
I will have to check original material to verify if this was done regularly. The y strap idea especially sounds a bit excessive.
In Germany we call the complete Combat Equipment Klempnerladen.
Didn't know that. Thank you for telling me
@@dergrenadier arent you german?
@@Hn-gz5iw I'm Dutch
@@dergrenadier I see, the fuhrer would have called you german then still i guess.
@@Hn-gz5iw Volksdeutsch maybe, but not german.
I am modeling a Wehrmacht Squad for war games, and this info was very useful for the set up of all the accessories that came with the miniatures. Thanks!!!!!
This an Awesome video about German equipment. I learned a little bit of history. Thank-you for sharing this with everyone.
Thank you...your videos are very helpful to us new reenactors
Great to hear!
Thank you for this tutorial with the M44 tunic its much harder for support on the back rather than earlier model tunics because theres only two hooks on the side.
I just started reenacting and this is a great video for getting to know what and how to wear stuff
Very interesting to see how the kit went together. I didn't know that
Really interesting videos, I'm aware of many of the details presented but it's nevertheless great to see details of the German soldier's equipment so succinctly discussed.

Interesting, never considered having a waffenrock as an enlisted, like many I consider the service dress order or 'walk out dress' already very handsome. As a former idiot, I appreciate all the different perspectives of people who chose certain branches or services to impress. So glad the reenacting hobby has grown more wealthy with information on RUclips since I joined. Still sad older names in the hobby have gone off YT, ReenactorGuy, even though some of his advice was more pragmatic than technical like how a gatorade fits perfectly in a gas mask carrier was beneficial to me and probably others.
Damn! I forgot about ReenactorGuy, but he was the first ww2 german reenactor on YT. He and some others of the first ones are the reason I started in the first place.
Enlisted men had waffenrocks but when the war actually started I imagine they more or less stopped that practice. There are pictures of entire parades in paris where everybody is wearing a waffenrock so that is saying something.
@@dergrenadier a lot of reenactors especially germans get shit on because of the "nazi bad" ideology used by the woke even though most Wehrmacht soldiers didn't care about politics they just wanted to survive
Seems like a typical platoon of Wehrmacht would clink and clank worse than a Union Civil War Regiment? Like most Americans I’ve always been fascinated with German kit but all those loose components, straps, buckles & metal must make a tremendous amount of noise. How on earth did the 106 and 99 not hear them coming on Dec 16, 1944?
Most of the metal parts are gonna hit cloth or leather
Because they were American and could only hear each others opinions and boasting.
@@botulf4908is that why the Nazis preferred the Americans over the Soviets at the end of the war? Lol

From George. I have a full uniform and the equipment kit but have an extra for the backpack gear called an 'A' frame that some of the kit connects to. My uniform is the same tunic as I see in this video and pants are of the same colour or field grey. I have four marks of helmet and the field cap. No weapons not even bayonet. I do have the boots also. I'm in Australia and unfortunately I don't belong to any reanacment group. So I can not wear this anywhere. I once thought of joining somewhere but it didn't happen. I like the video I'm very jealous. Thanks for the showing how it all goes together.Have fun.👍🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
I also have the basic equipment but I’m in Australia and I’m not in a reenactment group, I’m feeling you
@@Somememeguy-ek8nwI spent lots of money on a uniform I'll never wear. My other issue is I'm not some 18-20 year old.☹️🙁👍🇭🇲🦘✌️
@@Somememeguy-ek8nw It's a bummer when you'd like to belong with a group but you either can't or don't have the correct gear or other reasons cost. I've watched many videos and wish I could've done that. So I bought the whole uniform once and now I'm stuck with it. It cost me about a grand and a half for tunic, pants and equipment. No KR98 or bayonet or pistol Luger.🙁☹️😣👍🇭🇲🦘✌️
@@George-pp2hr I don’t have the boots either and they are soooo expensive, I don’t have the correct tunic like you do but I have a Swiss ww2 tunic. I live in southeastern Australia and we can’t have replica guns without permission, but luckily I have my junior gun license maybe one day when I have my full license I can buy a gun. The situation you’re in must suck.😁😭😕🇦🇺🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
@@Somememeguy-ek8nw Hi there friend. The situation for me more than sucks. I'm too old for it even though I have seen older guys in videos I've watched. But even so I still couldn't join any groups cause I've no idea. I do have the boots. I bought from USA but cost me a fortune with the other bits and pieces. I could'vebought a KR98 rifle but too costly AU $500+ replica I do have a licence for replica weapons including historical percussion weapons and pistols. I even have an incomplete Fallshirmjagger tunic, helmet, lace up boots. The tunic has the yellow shoulder boards and rank collar insignia. No jumpsuit no webbing or equipment. My other interests was the German Afrika Korps but that was an inspiration from Raiders Of The Lost Ark. I've got several imitation field caps but not quite correct and a very thin canvas like material. Instead on concentrating on one I wasted money on several bits to incomplete uniforms. I could have bought a Stormtrooper costume that I want now. But again I'm stuck because the cost. I have a helmet and even that is ok but not sure of the size. It seems slightly small or medium.☹️☹️☹️🇭🇲🦘🐨✌️
A great with, good to see you covering the basics of wearing kit...............More to come?
Yes sir! It's about time that I inform the new re-enactor of the real relevant basic stuff.
@@dergrenadier If you can get the basics right, the rest will follow.
9:00 min "and because you might all be idiots' it is a square" Best commentary on you tube. Accurate as well.
Good video, it's helping me get a model correct.
My great uncle told me the y-straps called for the buddy system.....your buddy would help you and you him in turn to put it on and it helped check that both of you had the correct squad equipment.
I put in on belt stuff first, then worry about y straps, if you went y first it fell apart
You have a very good channel! As a bayonet collector myself. Not in the field of gear and equipment. Thanks or as my say in dutch, bedankt makker! 🤜 ❤
Goed om te horen dat de content bevalt! Fijne avond 😁
@@dergrenadier thanks man! Jij ook! Groetjes uit belgie buurman
Very informative. Equipment was noisy to wear. Great Video
Smart organization
I have found that putting on your belt on the hooks first then the y straps to be much easier
very nice video helped me a lot
Ook handig voor de 1/6 actie figuren!
Very informative content many thanks, keep doing that !
Thank you very much. And I will 😄
@@dergrenadier only problem, i Saw no k98 in your video, it was surely the german soldiers best Friend on the field !
@@guillaumeferment7445 Hahahah yeah that one will feature in more then enough videos to come
One thing I’ve learned to do is set your tornister or rucksack higher than you (ground above a foxhole or entrenched position, table, tree stump, stone wall, fence, etc. ) and put your back to it and reach around to hook the d rings to the tornister. 😁
Good tip!
Amo a história da Alemanha, a imigração alemã foi muito importante para o Brasil, vida longa ao lindo povo da Alemanha❤
That xela 39 tornister looks great I want one. But with the current situation in the east I don’t think I’d be able to get one 😕
Yeah I know that nastaro has stopped production for now for example. So it could be true for Xela39 as well.
@@dergrenadier yeah I heard he’s on the border helping refugees
can you do a video on how to set up the equipment for a
Sanitäter.? I want to start reenacting but I don't know where to get specialized medical pouches and so on
Wonderful!
Thank you!
Great video!! Where to get one of those field dress books?
Thank you! Helped me setup my field gear! What were the dangling front y-straps used for?
They hook to the bottom of your A frame or tornister / rucksack. Notice that in the end, when I have my tornister on, they are not dangling there anymore.
Glad I could be of assistance!
@@dergrenadier Thank you!
Wow nice stuff organization like alice
Perfekt Video
Thanks 😁
(As a French resistance reenactor) What belt and Y suspenders do you use and would the belt work with mp40 mag pouches?
All of this equipment works with mp40 pouches, it is the exact same system. My belt and suspenders are fron vincent.
@@dergrenadier Thanks!
where did u get the belt from it looks good
It's vincents equipment. I would say he makes some of the best leather goods for re-enactors at the moment.
Very informative
In a few months i moving to Italy, i have some friends to have a beer in England, when I get there, i call you.
2:01 what’s that little sturmpack esque setup the soldier on the bottom left has?
Folding the zeltbahn over your meskit and wear it with the breadbag strap as shoulder straps. This was done in WW1 and early in ww2 but later in the war this dissapeared a bit.
What type of oil/grease do you use to treat your leather items?
Rapide saddle grease. Works like a charm
Well done!
Any idea how often a-frames were used, and when? Thanks
Not often. They were only issued for trips into the field longer than 24 hours long and shorter than 48 hours long, or something in that ballpark. And even then almost nobody got them. You don't see them often at all. My advise is to not use them at all.
This video was very entertaining and educational you explained everything very good and easy to understand,
and i would like to know where you have your wehrmacht gear from. And is it reanactment gear or from the 2nd world war?
Thank you! This is ww2 German, ww1 is quite different.
The gear is from many many vendors and manufacturers, impossible to name in one reply. I refer to my other videos for more information on the vendors.
Nice
@17:16 I always see those straps, but what are they FOR?
They are for the A frame assault pack, or the M31 rucksack basically from my understanding the assault pack moves the mess can and Zeltbahn on the A frame instead of being attached to the belt
So would they wear y strap set up and the pack at same
Time? Thank you
Where can I buy a pair of boots for my officer outfit?
Depends on what type of boots you want. Riding boots, regular early/late boots, or something else? Officer impressions are hard because there are many ways to do it right but way more ways to do it wrong.
If you want good boots and you take this very serious I would see if Jan Berger could be of assistance.
Where do i keep my tent pole kit if i dont have tornister?
The kit has a special bag. Which you as an infantryman do not have
Ok, but what's the use of having a zeltbahn without tent poles then?
@@sigve7008 As a infantryman you have 1/ 4th of a complete tent. You keep your pole piece and the pegs in your tornister. The complete set is not for one person but for four
@@dergrenadier Ok thanks:D Do you know how to make a one man shelter with only one zeltbahn? perhaps over a foxhole.
I want to Ask something......
I seen people tuck their Stahlhelm in their belts only with the helm's liner straps ............
i try dat only to find out that it'll damage and tear the helm's straps...........
Can you shows us various "historical" ways to tuck and carry the Stahlhelm ?

The only way is by the chinstrap actually. If something rips the quality is not up to specs. Investing is a vincent chinstrap might be the way to go
Hey, could you pleae sy what shirt do you use, the m36,40,or 43? i think i will buy the m40
M43. I will add an m42 soon for variation. The m40 is a great option as well because they were used for a long time
Hi mate, I love your channel! Where did you buy your Y straps? They look amazing!
Thanks! The y-straps are vincent's equipment. Got them second hand but he still makes them and they are amazing!
@@dergrenadier stunning quality for sure! Thanks for the answer and keep up the good work!
Now the question: where to buy all this (in EU) and how expensive would it be? I know you have seperate item videos but the whole package would be nice to know :)
I would like to make a video about this. All the gear, where it's from and what it costs. If I get around to that it will be published this week!
I want to buy this sweatshirt. I'm thinking about 182 or 176. I'm 182 tall. Can you provide the dimensions of the sweatshirt? Total length, sleeve inside and outside?
Where did the soldat carry his a frame if he had tornister on
A frames were only issued for certain actions, and very rarely. If a soldier had an a frame and a tornister he needed the later model tornister which has hooks and a strap for the a frame.
Don't use an a frame unless you know you are, on that specific occasion, portaying a unit that had them on that very moment.
@@dergrenadier oh thanks
