Hamlet & Horatio deserve to have their relationship represented like this in all productions. The wrestle over the last bit of poison, the voice cracks, the forehead kiss, the unabashed emotion, the final hug where Horatio refuses to let Hamlet go? YES. They were best friends, not acquaintances. Horatio is obviously crushed by Hamlet's death, and David Tennant & Peter de Jersey portrayed these two and their bond wonderfully.
What "tents me to the quick" is the fact that Hamlet just wants to be mourned. That's a big part of what bugged him for the whole play, his uncle and mother's irreverence for his father, their short memories with regard to him. All he wants is for someone to "hold me in thy heart. Absent thee from felicity awhile, and in this harsh world, draw thy breath in pain to tell my story."
This is my favorite production of Hamlet. Always makes me cry. Also Horatio is literally the sweetest I hope after his grieving period he went on and married and had a kid he could name Hamlet or something

I just wanted to look at some scenes for AP Lit, but instead I found out that people ship Hamlet and Horatio together. I have very mixed feelings about this discovery.
mate, i hate to break it to you, but that's just how Shakespear wrote the lines. David's got nothing to do with how long they are, nor how much Hamlet is given to say. All he does it deliver what was written far before him, and he does it wonderfully.
It's called colorblind casting, and it's very common in theater / theater-based film. Also people were traveling or being moved from one continent to another commonly even back in the day. Chill.
i wish more productions focused on the relationship between hamlet and horatio like this

I found out that my script analysis teacher thinks Hamlet is gay and in love with Horatio.
""""""thinks""""""😂😂😂😂
Horatio is reffering to Hamlet as "sweet", which - as much as I know - had queer meaning for a long time.
Lambadajew O. But was it such back when Shakespeare wrote the play?

okay, but how romantic would it have been if Horacio had committed suicide to be with hamlet in death?? Like come on
Did this production cut out Fortinbras?
Zipei Zheng Yes. He's mentioned throughout but the movie ends with Hamlet's death
Most productions do. I wouldn’t have known who Fortinbras was except Madeline L’Engle named the dog that in Wrinkle inTime.
@@BodaciousWench Fortinbras was the prince of Norway whose father also named Fortinbras was killed by King Hamlet, the father of Prince Hamlet.
