Great discussion 👍. I have listen to the discussion/interview twice. Thank you so very much Professor Hunter and Brother Coates for your willingness to speak up to help us all understand what's happening to our Palestinians, brothers, and sisters. Peace and Black power.
This conversation is far more nuanced than even this discussion though. The Palestinian people in the US stood ten toes down on us putting their survival ahead of our own. This election gave us only two viable options for leadership. We needed them to stand in the very least in respect of our need to secure our own safety. Then we all could join together in seeking better aid for their plight. With that viable option now gone, in part due to their determination to see Harris's campaign defeated, the only remaining path for the US to assist them is through a leader who has openly declared the desire to raze their territory for beach front property. Representatives of the Palestinian people have actively targeted black supporters of their own cause and verbatim demanded that black people "Keep their f-ing names out of our mouths." We can stand for human dignity, but how can we effectively address others when our own home is in peril? This is not simply an Israel/Palestinian, yes or no issue. With active anti-black actions and Palestinian Americans moving against their own interests, some of us have decided to leave them to their own devices and outcomes.
@@judithmccrea2601Excellent point! Very well said. I took their comment as a rhetorical question because we are dealing with entities who are quite comfortable while bringing 14th century mentality into our 21st century environment. You are absolutely correct. They haven't changed because they don't need to Yet!
I bought The Message and I very intentionally pull it out of my backpack and set it on the table in the coffee shop, face up, to signal, expressly, that my identity as a Black person is: actively educated. And if someone wants to ask why I'm reading The Message or what's in it, I'm also prepared to have that conversation. Reading this book certainly doesn't make me an extremist. But if it signals to others that I'm informed and not to be messed with, I'm content with that. Books like The Message are, for me, a badge and a shield.
💙. I was thinking that we need to get over our extreme disappointment in the election. Stop fragmenting. We are going to need each other as we try to get through this next 4 years. There is a lot of places to place blame. MSM is very high on the list. But the responsibility ultimately lies with Trump voters. Let’s not lose sight of who to blame while pointing at each other.
I love this I had just purchased Ta-Nehisi Coats book The Message. Such an influential voice to listen to you both. Im a 36 year old Air Force black veteran and even though I left the service it's so sad to see what is happening to our country I feel defeated and tired
Thank you for this discussion. I visited Palestine twice and genocide began so long ago. It’s an international crime against humanity. Thank you Mr. Coates.
Thank you for this convo, Prof. Hunter. I can't help but see the comparison between our people and the Palestinians. Yet, the difference between us and them is that we were not so fortunate to have 'outsiders' or even for that matter, not many non-Blacks at home helping us carry our 'cross' in these United States. Nevertheless, there's empathy in me for the cross that they have been carrying and continue to carry. The world outside seem oblivious to them/their pain. In this regard, I think we're similar.
Trust the work we supply to our own LEARNING and understanding even if it conflicts with what we knew before. Embrace the cognitive dissonance that our NEW information gives us from the previous streams, hence it could be leading us down the wrong path. Don't be afraid to travel in another space of information and absord that different source. If it's wrong we can always return, but use it as an experiment to collect data to determine our conclusions. Sometimes the information we have to throw out gives us the answers we need at the end.
You can love people and not trust them. There are also different levels of trust. I love my nephew but wouldn’t trust him with my car. He doesn’t have the requisite training or ability yet. Does this mean I don’t love him? Of course not. Likewise, I have people I trust in different ways, with different areas depending on their ability, training, and my past experience. For instance, I have people I trust with emotional things who I wouldn’t go to for financial advice because they haven’t proven themselves in that area. I have people that I trust to give me career or financial advice that I would never go to with a personal problem. It depends on the person and their area of expertise.
Protect yourself at all times. Everyone has their reasons for believing whatever they believe in. You just need to find out what that is and then go from there.
There are times when I don't wan't to know my "neighbors" because I see a lot of hypocrisy, deceit, lying, ignorance, backwardness, and pure evil and treachery.
M. Complex was an aspect I didn't think to consider. It's all linked for the gains of a few and the demise of many...PLEASE, the name of the song outro?
Right most black people aren't going to become a best selling author. How can any not see that. There are huge crowds because he is known well known. There are thousands of great writers and artists but not known and they can't do the things he does be they are limited
I trust my neighbor. I live in Asheville NC. We just had the worst natural disaster in my lifetime. We pulled together, helped each other, I saw American spirit at it's height. Even with the democrats avoiding us, we fought and worked and are still pulling ourselves up off the ground. We won't be bowed by this devastation with or without help from the democrats.
That is terrible to say, you have the nerve to say the Democrats avoided you during a natural disaster wow politics goes out the window when people are experiencing a emergency and it is sad to hear you label people by politics We are doomed here
@prettybrownbrown7 Their supervisors told FEMA workers to avoid homes with Trump signs in their yards. Where I live that's the entire area. We were avoided, we never saw FEMA. But we weren't depending on a democrat led government to help us. We know what they are. Party before country regardless.
Its men folks like this brother here that gives me reason to support Trump. The freedom of speech means everything to black folks as we let the world know how we have been oppressed and seek justice. If they can shut down a former president and deny him his 1st amendment freedoms we as black folks dont stand a chance.
You obviously haven't been paying attention these past 8 years. The GOP has been attacking freedom of speech and personal expression in various states. If you don't agree and walk lock step with 47, the GOP, and the religious right wing you'll FAFO.
@@prettybrownbrown7 Perhaps you werent paying attention to what this brother is really talking about. The so called powers that wanna-be shape and define the morality of everythi9ng in this country. They not goping to tell you that Joe Biden used to make his daughter take showers with him and she is mentally traumatized for the rest of her life. They not gone tell you that Joe Biden married his former childrens baby sitter(Jill). They not gone tell you that Hunter screwed his dead brothers wife or that Hunter and Joe denied their own child and grand child, child support until the courts stepped in and made them own up to it. When main stream media is used as a tool to suppress the truth and paint their own narrative we end up with a pedo-file as a president. Just google "pedo-Joe" and see what comes up.
I trust, but as I’ve gotten older, I learned to not show my hand. Let em get comfortable enough to show their.
Wise 🙌🏾

Very well said, that nuance is glaringly missing in this particular conversation.
The conversation was a nuance to you?🤔 You obviously haven’t read his book nor are astute to the actual history of Palestine🇵🇸.🙄
But, when will THEY acknowledge OUR humanity??
Not sure they ever will. If they don’t get it during the Find Out phase, they never will. Not that I really trust them.

Unfortunately, im looking over my shoulder watching who i talk to at work, at home m, and everywhere i go.❤🎉

Why are you talking politics at work?
This man is so extraordinary, and so humble. I pray he understands the impact that he is having on people’s lives.

I don't trust anyone.

Religious nonsense nonsense is a big part of why we're in this situation right now

I'm purchasing the book today.

Yes i do still trust my neighbors as much as i did b4... ive always stayed armed.. idk y yall keep thinking other groups your friends
Thanks for sharing this interesting commentary, I truly appreciate both of you!!!
This has been going on for years. Why were we not speaking out.
Trust is earned until the trust earned hell no !!
Hard to do right now!
I don't think she and he see the world the same..I glad he was unapologetic even though Karen looked uncomfortable 😣
"I only trust myself ".
Honestly, I don't even trust myself and that is sad.
And we know what is happpenin over there is horrid.
I hate it. Them folks have NO empathy
