I really appreciate the intellect and the active use of writing to teach in public. When I say, in public, I am referencing the lack of the accessibility of Black intellectuals who teach in PWIs and write in language that is seldom digestible by the masses. Much ❤️
Whoa. This level of discourse is so unexpectedly high, it’s shocking…in a great way! This is a sophisticated legal discussion and some of the subtlety is lost if one doesn’t do the homework. I would argue that the settlement system and the notion of “disappearing” Palestinians is more analogous to the 19th century reservation policy of the US government towards Indigenous Americans, although that analogy (like all analogies) has its limitations.
Doesn't the fact that Palestinians are being characterized as nobodies speak to the question of apartheid. Apartheid comes in many stages and forms in my point of view.
Excellent question and excellent comprehensive answer to a complex situation. I just gained some knowledge. As much as I wish otherwise, the future of the Palestinians is very grim with Trump as president. I have no doubt Trump will undo any current stipulations the US in place towards a peaceful resolution. In doing so he not only gives Netanyahu the green light to proceed with his genocide but will also be providing the weapons to do so.
The way you both were able to hold your faces and your mouths during this "question" needs to be studied. Too many people are unable to usefully process genocide, land and natural resource theft and oppression of people not their own has been studied but not wisely taught as a rule. The response Coates gave was an example of a dedication to patience, perseverance and a willingness to have all involved grow. Breathing deep tho. Questioning what to politically classify an old thing at this point in time is.... A lot.
I completely understand your point and I agree. But for the questioner it is personal. Him divorcing American slavery from the practices it was born from in the Caribbean speaks to a misunderstanding of history and the wider picture. Apartheid is Apartheid. Slavery is Slavery. Indentured Service is Indentured Service. The details or location don't make it a different thing. Unless you want to claim it, because you are different and special. The H word has been claimed and now cannot be used appropriately to identify the various examples of it without a specific group being involved. To me that is racist: our situation was special because we are better and special. I'm not saying he's doing all of that, but the desire comes from that root to me.
The only difference between Eastern Europeans practicing a "religion" and calling themselves "jews," and Western Europeans practicing a "religion" and calling themselves "christians" is that the "love thy neighbor christians" were colonizers long before zionist. European colonialist of a feather just naturally flock together, which is how we all got here. And btw; the real "Hebrews" are not Eastern Europeans practicing a "religion" and calling themselves "jews" in the first place; Bereshit 10 2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, ...3 And the sons of Gomer; AshkeNazi aka "jews." Believe it or not, Hebrews aka Yisra'eyl (Devarim 28:15-68) descend from Shem, not Japheth. ~ ⌛ Bereshit 15:12-14 🎻
@@Thewatcher1_ silly statement. There are European countries. Whats your point. I just wonder when the book is coming from the prof. Or it’s only ok when the Arabs genocide Sudan?

Beautifully stated!
That was an excellent question and the response was good yet a bit guarded!
Agreed.

Extremely ignorant comment.

There are Muslim nations. 🤨 is that apartheid.
If your argument is, oh but this bad thing us going on over there too, then you already lost
There were African nations when apartheid was happening in SA. So was it not apartheid?
We don't fund their genocide's..well..unless it's Muslim on Muslim(Saudi Arabia against Yemen bc Saudi Arabia controls "the petro $" or OPEC)
