Today, we're reviving our Bleach: What If? series to look at a popular question I've been asked a fair bit - what if Coyote Starrk survived the Fake Karakura Town arc? The Primera Espada is one of Bleach's most popular characters, and I don't think people would be upset to see him return at all. So, let's take a look at how exactly his TYBW story might play out...

What if Starrk had survived? He's certainly one of the most popular deceased members of Bleach's cast, and I think people would've been happy to see him return. What do you think? Would you have liked to see Starrk come back? Maybe he's chilling in Hell...

Starrk fighting Robert accutrone and killing him would be fun. Imagine if him and shunsui tag team lille barro that would be really fun fanservice
Hiyori was split in half, so it’s not completely unreasonable for Stark to have survived, but then again a clean slash from Gin, as opposed to a bone crushing double punch from Yamamoto, could mean life and death, Shunsui could have a soul extinguishing slash for all we know.

If Stark had survived, I would have wanted to see him share a drink with Shunsui. Whenever (If) the Hell Arc starts up again, this is the number one thing I would want to see.

Seeing a gunfight between Starrk and Lille Barro would be amazing to see. It would also be a nice callback to Kubo’s original idea for Bleach.

Even though it's quite sad and not exactly what the manga intended, I think Lillinette dying before Starrk offers a reasonable explanation as to why the #1 espada lost so easily - in that he'd given up after that point. I think someone with Starrk's personality, no matter how strong he is physically, wouldn't be able to mentally withstand something as tragic as losing his dearest life partner, so simply giving up the fight out of depression - consciously or subconsciously - makes sense. I prefer the anime fight for that reason.
@⚡️ Chewy ⚡️ I don't personally think he lost easily, but it's a common perception that his death was underwhelming for the #1 Espada. I was saying that peoples grievances with how he was defeated can be explained by the emotional circumstances provided by the anime.

Tommo spoke about how fans were disappointed with the way Starrk's death was handled and I was saying that the anime was a reason not to be disappointed in it.

Starrk gives up after Barragan dies. He wanted equally powerful comrades to fight with. Aizen was supposed to be that WITH them. When Barragan dies and Aizen does nothing Starrk's heart completely leaves the battle. He even says so. He *says* the exact opposite, but I don't understand why commentators take everything every character says, in a series with Gin fuckin Ichimaru, as TRUTH. Starrk says "revenge isn't my style, but I'll make an exception" but revenge ISNT his style, full stop. When he realizes Aizen is just using them to buy time until the hogyoku awakened (Starrk didn't realize WHY Aizen was buying time, but he was smart AF, he realized what Aizen was doing), he gets disillusioned to the point of depression. He gives a token effort for the reason he says, but he wasn't trying. If he was FULLPOWER trying Rose and Love wouldn't have gotten back up.
If Stark had survived and developed his powers he'd be immensely powerful and a great help in the TYBW.

But we need to know how the original stark looked like and how strong he was before splitting his soul / Him and the other arrancar's should have trained not only relying on their evolution

Stark really deserved to live he was arguably the only male espada who wasnt a overconfident sadistic sociopath. If he had lived he would have no problem letting Hallibel rule and would just be happy that he isnt alone anymore.

Of course because all star ever wanted was so he would have definitely hung around and probably served Hali Bel and once the invasion of hueco Mundo happened and they started attacking his friends while he probably would have started kicking some ass.

Although Staark says that getting revenge isn't his style, he does say
"Only this once, I'll make an exception."
So that implies that if he did beat Kyoroku, he would totally go fight Soi.
I dont think Starrk being the character to resemble Aizen the most is a coincidence. For me, Starrk's struggle with loneliness and power kinda foreshadowed Ichigo's revelation at the end of Deicide that Aizen may have also been just looking for someone as strong as he was

@@lorddukfoxyzeppeli7921Well tsukishima as a fullbringer can't have bankai. Ginjo may have had one prior to losing his soul reaper powers and switching to fullbring based off his familiarity with activating his "bankai" at the end of TLA, but that's more conjecture than anything

I was surprised that Starrk died in the story, he wasn't exactly a "bad guy" so it seemed odd that he fully died off as many of the others who turned out to also not be quite so "bad" were allowed to survive in the end. He was certainly an interesting character.

I mean I guess Harribel and Grimmjow weren't that bad, but compared to them Starrk is literally a saint. They were still actually tryna murder people. Starrk really just wanted to skip out on fighting altogether
If Starrk was going to die at some point I think after Kyoraku is taken out of the fight it would make a ton of sense that he would sacrifice himself fighting alongside and protecting Nanao so she can get that hit off. It would also help it feel a bit more organic considering she has ZERO combat sense. We missed out on a very satisfying end to this character
I really hope we get to see Starrk in the hell saga. Have him make a full face turn. Also, if we're going by the anime, I do think Starrk would be able to use Ressureccion without Lilynette, since she apparently dies before the fight even ends. I imagine he'd just be stuck in his ressureccion at all times and unable to turn it off as his power no longer has a separate body to dispel into

Imagine that Grimjow scene where he ends it just turning around and says something like “Come on Number 1/Primera.” That would be good.
Kubo has all the right ingredients to deliver on one of his best designs if Hell Starrk ever becomes a thing in the new arc.
Honestly if Starrk would've been the Ruler of heuco mundo with Shunsui being the Captain commander it would've been perfect especially if they would've teamed up against lille barro it would be so dope watching them fight together.
Also can you please make a video ranking every Captain in Gotei 13 from weakest to strongest including every captain that we know about (like Ishhin , Urahara, Yoruichi , Aizen etc)
The Arrancar epilogue of CFYOW made me thought of Starrk, and it almost moved me to tears. Under Harribel’s reign with the help of Nelliel, the Arrancar society is moving towards both the soul society and the real world society, becoming a more peaceful and habitable place. Starrk would have got true comrades if he survived. Harribel truly cares about him, and Nelliel is a friendly and caring individual who would definitely be his friend. Even if Grimmjow doesn’t care about him, he would still be truly happy.
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I’d love to see Starrk team up with Shunsui against Lille Barro
Just imagine: Starrk came back in the Hell Arc as a guide to the heroes in Hell, because he wasn't a true bad guy, but also wasn't a good one. Like Virgil in the Divine Comedy Hell.

I think it would be cool to see Stark's interaction with Ichigo. I also think it would be cool if Stark fought against the Quincy girls since Stark's whole thing is that he is lonely and the Quincy girls are a group of people who call each other friends but would still back stab each other like what happened with Bambietta.
I think if Starrk survived the other hollows might push him to become the King of Hueco Mundo, he isn't happy about this but understands he has to similar to Shunsui becoming the new captain commander.
I could see Starrk sacrificing himself to save Harribel, Grimmjow and other hollows he feels are friends of his. Or he would be including in the Shunsui vs Lille Barrow fight and now the once enemies are now allies against a far greater threat. Imagine a godlike being (Lille Barrow) has to fight against the new captain commander and new King of Hueco Mundo in Shunsui and Starrk
I'm glad we agree Starrk might make a sacrificial move - seems very in-character for him later down the line. And yeah, honestly, seeing some kind of Hueco Mundo politicking involving the remaining Arrancar would be amazing.

Despite you saying this is "overglorified fanfiction", I love this train of thought. I would think an interaction of some kind between Starkk and Aizen would be great. Starkk could be obviously angry, but look calm when faced with Aizen. He could mention the betrayal and Aizen could try to get Starkk to attack him and potentially release him from the chair earlier. But Starkk just moves on and discredits Aizen for what he did, but thanks him for giving him what he had always wanted. Then I could see him making his way to Warwelt by himself and aiding Kyoraku like you said. That's kinda my fanfiction of what I would like to see, but stretching out the TYBW with focus on Starkk would take away from the point of TYBW: Moving forward. I don't think a moment with Aizen wouldn't indicate that, but I think Starkk wouldn't need to confront Aizen due to him just being happy with his new friends. I know I've contradicted myself, but I do realistically see why it wouldn't be as important as the Shinigami all giving Kyoraku crap for releasing Aizen.
Yeah I honestly kind of forgot about Aizen in TYBW in this video, which is rare for me. Like I mentioned, I think if Starrk witnessed Aizen's betrayal he'd probably lose all respect for him. At the same time, Starrk openly says he's not about taking revenge, so I think it's more he'd just have nothing to say to him if they met. Would've been so cool to see either way though.

Wouldn't it have been cool if after their defeat they could've found a way to return to that point before they separated. Kinda like how yachiru rejoined Nozarashi but the arrancar version.
After thinking about it what would the form even be. My headcannon was that it was an adult version of lilinette with starrks hair eyes and personality with lilinettes matured hollow instincts. The hollow hole could be where lilinette's was (stomach) and they could use the eyepatch mask from los lobos.
It would also ne cool if they fought with Cero Shotguns or Cero Machine guns.
The wolves could still be there too.
Maybe Kubo has some Hell arc plans for Starrk and Lilinette. If kubo does show their original form I for whatever reason want to see them fight Kenpachi 😤
I don't think that would be possible since breaking the mask is something you can't go back in, once a hollow becomes an arrancar, they will always be an arrancar.
I honestly expected a whole heap more from Starrk. I really don't know why Kubo offed him since he was a literally an Arrancar Shunsui. And we all know how popular the current captain commander is
personally, im not actually sure if Kubo even planned to have the 'peaceful' Hueco Mundo originally, that it's a cool, interesting idea he came up with post-arrancar arc. i also feel that Stark is a PERFECT character to have in that new Hueco Mundo because as aloof and almost nihilistic as he was, he did actually want peace. i think he really could have had some interesting dynamics with that, like how he would interact with Harribel/grimmjow in this new world and even possibly, like you said, how he'd act around the shinigami now they are somewhat more peaceful towards eachother. him learning to effectively loosen up and learn to actually care about the world around him would have juxtaposed amazingly with the Quincies plan to destroy it. there's a wealth of character potential there!
I could just picture Orihime calling him Mr. Starkk and then proceeds to give him a motivational speech. It would've at least gave her a tad bit of a prominent role other than the final battle in Wahrwelt with Yhwach. Plus, that Lille Barro vs Kyoraku/Starkk battle is the icing on the cake for this "What If". I kinda wanna see a version of this now, damn it.
Love these discussions videos. Lot of people on reddit or YT are only talking about powerscale and what if fight. I really like the fact that you always talk about the relationship, the motivation, plot context and all these stuff without only focussing on the fight !

I’d have loved that. I love Starrk, and I feel like that would have been a more moving arc for him as a character. His normal death was ok, but not anywhere near what I think it could have been.
I think a Stark and Lilynette redemption arc would have been great to have. Having a team of redeemed Espada actually fighting with the rest in a combined effort to save the world from being unified once again is satisfyingly ironic IMO.
What I'll almost hate to see is Stark ending up in Hell, because I don't really think he deserves to be there. But, since Captains end up in Hell due to their power alone, he & Lilynette almost have to be there. So, maybe we'll get to see the team up in hell which would be great to see.
I had been wondering if the characters of Kindred in League of Legends were at all influenced by Stark. The former also being an entity that split himself in two distinct forms to avoid being lonely.

Wow, you did it again! This video is fantastic! Shunsui and Stark (and Halibel) are my favorite characters and the thought of them fighting TOGETHER would be the coolest thing imaginable for the series. Dude, I didn't know I wanted something to be real so badly in my life. lol Wish Kubo had you around to bounce ideas off of for the last arch.
He’s legit one of my favorite characters in the whole series who definitely should’ve came back undoubtedly
I always thought a cool way for starrk to survive is that lilynette fuses back into him and sealing her power within him to keep him alive, I think it could add alot to the story. Some nice character development for lilynette that always acts like a child makes a very mature decision to sacrifice herself for starrk. We see how starrk handles losing lilynette and acts as a plot device for starrk losing his resurrección. We can have a cool moment towards the end of the story when starrk breaks the seal keeping him alive allowing him to reunite with lilynette and use a new resurrección one last time before succumbing to his injuries and dying together with lilynette

If Hiyori can survive being fully cut in half, Stark certainly should.

Could you imagine Starrk v. Askin? Head canon, but that fight would have been amazing. Two characters who are amazing at what they do, but have total respect for each other.

I feel as if Stark was supposed to show us some what of how Shunsui might have been before when he was way younger. He shares a lot of the similarities as Shunsui except that he is not a seasoned veteran like him.

Starrk was definitely one of my favorite characters while reading bleach, and debatably my favorite espada. He deserved more and HOPEFULLY he somehow comes back with this new hell arc and shares a friendship with Shunsui and the other espada, just wishful thinking because man. He was great

starrk vs lille would have been amazing, their abilities are way more similar than one might initially think
in the manga, starrk's wolves are completely immortal, as long as starrk is healthy; he could sacrifice himself by not just splitting up his soul, but turning all of it into a wolf/nigh infinite wolves, which would then fight a giant owl and neither would be able to hurt the other. this would either buy enough time for shunsui to shit out another deus ex machina bs finisher, or maybe starrk just blows up and it magically kills lille because we don't know exactly what the owl guy can survive in his final form - technically it just has to damage him enough to replicate the god paddle effect

I absolutely love starrk and his layed back attitude even in serious situations, curiously his aspect of death - solitude - is similar to Ulquiorra's emptiness in that they are both struggling with the burden of loneliness. To be alone is to be the only one...

Idea: What if Ishida killed Mayuri? (In the battle between Ishida and Mayuri in Soul Society Arc, Ishida tried to kill Mayuri, but failed and Mayuri escaped. You should make a video about what happened if Ishida actually killed Mayuri there.)

I was rewatching a few of your videos and came across the mature Hitsugaya bankai video. I couldn't find a video where you discuss Hyōrinmaru. I recall it being a weird one where two people owned the same sword and then were forced to kill each other. It seems like a rather interesting discussion. Could you discuss Hyōrinmaru?
I love this video! I do believe that Starrk would be a wonderful addition to the last arc of the story. I do see him being a little bit like the equivalent of Kyoraku when it comes to the Espada so maybe that is why Kubo cut him off but nonetheless, he would have brought a lot of character development for Kyoraku himself and the other Espada survivors. He would serve as a reminder of the pinnacle of what an Arrancar can be and could have become a sort of "ultimate protector" of hueco mundo.
I wanted just to point out that even if Lilinette is "dead" I believe she can be easily revived by applying the same logic that Unohana did to Ichigo's Bankai. His resurrection is his true form where he recovers the Reiatsu that is split between his two bodies, so, even if you effectively "kill" one of the two recipients, healing the remaining one using Kidou-based techniques should do the trick.
Just like Ichigo's garments in Bankai get fixed when Unohana healed him, I believe that Lilinette should be back to normal if Unohana healed Starrk's surviving body after Orihime fixed him physically.

Thanks for the insightful comment Gabriel, I really appreciate it. You're probably right about Lilynette, though that brings up interesting questions of their own. In that sense then, would you say their relationship is akin to say, James and Mask in TYBW? One can continue to return as long as the other lives? That's pretty fascinating.
When human becomes a hollow, he loses his heart (represented by a hole in his body) and a mask is formed. I like to think that Stark eyepatch is a representation of Lilinette heart ^^

-Was pushing Shunsui to bankai
-Wasn't fighting at his fullest yet he was still able to take out 3 captain level shinigamis without much effort
-Only 1 cero got Shunsui down for quite a while
-Can fire an unlimited amount of ceros
and etc, this guy is just cracked bruh. If he didn't hold back since the start he could have probably beaten Shunsui due to the fact that Shunsui couldn't use his bankai.
Ever tought about how Kubo introduces cenarios to us by ilustrating this in other characters (an example is Ichigo being introduced to Zampakutous not by his mentors, but by Renji)
So, maybe the feeling of lonliness shownd to us by Stark isn't a preview about Aizen's heart when Ichigo talks about his sword?

Yeah I really wanted Starrk to survive. Kubo did him a bit dirty. One little thing that bugs me is how underwhelming the Top 3 Espada turned out to be compared to their build up. Im not saying that they are weak necessarily but that I dont know why Kubo made them look weak. Probably just me but meh. Anyways good What If, really liked it and agreed with your view.

I'd love to imagine Starrk survived, then went back to being chill afterwards. His character left so many questions rather than answers.
what if when Lillinette dies shes just brought back into Starkk? like she still "exists" just not in a physical form, or it takes some time for her to re-manifest a physical form. Maybe they have a shinigami and zanpakuto-esque relationship (which i guess they kind of of already do with her transforming into the pistols for their resurrection) and she would just return to Starkk's version of an inner world for some time?

Starkk was one of my favorites, and getting a fight between him and Haschwalth would've been a great showing for both parties there to showcase property what they could do

Pros: he’s lazy and momo could take charge of squad 5 given her character development.

I really like Stark he is my favorite espada and I wish I had seen him in the final arc although Kubo gave him a great ending, especially in the anime, with his loss of Lilynette and his return to being alone in his last moments.
Honestly I think another cool arc for him in TYBW would be rescuing Halibel. So his intention isn't to just protect his home, but also rescue his friend. This way you could have everything else play out the same, but add in a whole new set of fights going on at the same time. Who he would end up fighting is another matter. I am not sure if I want it to be a main Quincy of some kind, or just him cleaning house with trash no names, in a raw display of power. This way we get some character growth and an explanation of how Halibel is freed.
Another way to go about this is him initially helping in the fight with Shunsui, but then have him told to leave to avoid the Bankai. Maybe have Shunsui tells him he has someone left who needs him and could make a nice bit of dialogue with Lily in there. This way we get the gun fight you mention....because yes we need that in our lives.

I like the idea that if Starrk survived and Lilinette survived, that Starrk would be stuck in ressurection. Or you could go so far that Starrk and Lilinette do survive but Lilinette can't form a physical body anymore, leaving Starrk to always have a repaired eyepatch, again mirroring Shunsui.

Considering how Harribel was shafted I don’t really have my hopes up.
If starrk did assist shunsui and he saw him use his bankai he’d say something like this “so this is what you were holding off” or something like that

I feel like his death was really rushed tbh. During the whole fight, Kubo made it clear that Starrk had the major upper hand against Shunsui, but then he just... died. Not much of an explanation, and not much sense involved.
As an artist you have no idea how much I wanna draw this now...
I remember reading somewhere that someone theorized if Starrk was subconsciously/unconsciously suicidal toward the end of the battle so he more or less accepted his death more easily, as if he wanted a death wish after losing comrades and/or Lilinette, ultimately giving up emotionally and mentally whether he's aware of it or not. I don't remember the full details on it but they included some details that was quite compelling and added on to this theory.
It absolutely seems that way - like I mentioned, Starrk seems to kind of give up the moment he's stabbed in the back. It's like it suddenly became very real.
I can see him helping in the fight and being told to get away when bankai was being released. Only to run into Nanao talk about how she cant interfere in her captains sacrifice then being talked around by her talking about not abandoning comrades. He then takes her to the fight after the bankai is finished and then fights giving her time to retrieve her sword and receive guidance before she inevitably finishes things

Totally agree, Stark would have loved the new Hueco Mundo, not taking the top spot due to his laziness, leaving it to Harribel and Neliel, even if staying in Las Noches and protecting it (like someway did Rudobone too). As for the quincies invasion, maybe yes, killing most of the main army, but then be taken down by Haschwalth or the Yhwach himself (probabily off-panel, like it was for Harribel). That said, if we assume that the final part of Bleach had been better managed (cause you see, Grimmjow and Neliel helped on Askin front, but they didn't play a major role, not even did a lot of other guys), seen him helping Kyoraku and facing another gun user would have been so interesting, not only for show his relation with the captain commander and put aside the past working now togheter, but also for the fight itself, between the three number ones of their factions.
For the rest, as I already said, I'm still wondering if we'll see him and Ulquiorra in the eventually Hell Chapter. They were not really evil or violent, like other arrancars, even if they followed and obeyed to Aizen, out of a kind of devotion. But at the same time, they were the strongest Espada for reiatsu, Stark also died in the Soul Society, so even we know they perform the ritual only for the shinigami (still the question if they did for Tosen and Gin as well), in theory the same problem with the captains huge reiatsu should apply to the espada as well, evil or "neutral" they were. Hope to see them again.
The slash that killed Stark was enough to kill him not just because it was deep, but because it was a result of Iro Oni. Shunsui chose the color black and slashed at Stark's hollow hole, which gives access to his interior, which of course is completely black. Amd Shunsui was also wearing only his shihakushō at the moment, so he was also covered in black. The more of the chosen color is present on both the opponent and on you, the most damage Iro Oni causes. That's why a "simple" slash was able to finish of the Primera Espada

I never saw Lilinette not talking as "Dying" I always saw that as Lilly fused back with starrk, or starrk fused with Lilly. They were originally 1 person and releasing resurrection just meant they went back to being 1. Starrk just couldn't handle being alone and he started to get sad and give up.
I didn't know I needed a gun fight in Bleach until now. 😂 That final battle sounds insane
urahara could help him to stabilize his power in the same way he helped neliel, so he could use his resurrection once more

If both Starrk and Ulquiorra survived the arrancar arc the TYBW arc would've been even better but im good with what we got.
If they both survived then a few Sternritter aren't gonna make it to the first invasion
If Starrk survived, I can imagine him as the last line of defence against the Quincy invasion. He doesn't have the heart of a warrior but he long for an home and would probably be ready to die to protect it. I can imagine him being the one to actually refuse to surrender until the end and force the Quincy to kill him.
Also, I'm quite sure he wouldn't be an easy target for the Quincy. I can actually imagine him defeating few sternritter and forcing Gremmy or Hascwalth to step in.
