KUDOS I have an order for one of these for my 09 LS460 coming any day now and now I know to double check the model on the box and the harness. I have couple of questions though. 1-is it possible to show how the unit is mounted in that little space under the glove box- that is geinius move BTW! 2-How long did it take for the replacement part to come? 2b-Did they do the right thing and overnight it? 3-Did you mount the GPS antenna above the right top vent? 3b- Was the wire long enough due to the unit mounting? 4-Did you install the microphone? 4b-if so was it hard to pry the A pillar w the airbag? 5-Do the steering wheel controls work while using the V-Line. 6-Does it retain all of the Mark Levinson features like DSP and the great "Booming" sound when watching videos and playning music. Thanks so much for this especially waiting 6 mos to give a fair review of ACTUAL LS460 customer use. So many people are knee-jerk lovers or haters who had it for a few days or from outside of the US complaining about customer service / shipping times. U Are Great!
Thanks! Maybe I'll have to shoot another video to answer number 1. 2: The replacement parts took several days. Definitely not over nighted, but without the original mistake that's pretty irrelevant to most people. 3: The GPS antenna I just stuck to the dash with 3M VHB tape. Plenty of wire length. 4: I would imagine the MIC would have come with the correct kit but I didn't get one with my incorrect kit. I had one already sitting around so I saved myself more aggravation and emails and days of shipment and just used mine. I mounted it on the center of the steering column. 5 & 6: Steering wheel controls absolutely work. Everything works. That's one of the reasons I went with the GROM. You lose nothing, just gain wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. Backup camera, advanced parking feature, everything retained. The only thing worth mentioning is that the push to speak button (left side of the wheel below the volume buttons) still gets you to the factory infotainment system, not Siri or Google Assistant. So instead of using that button you simply say "Hey Siri" or press and hold the lower left corner of the CarPlay screen to access Siri.
I’m not sure if it does. If you click on the link in the description that takes you to the GROM website it may answer the question somewhere on their site.
Glad to know. I thought of getting one but cannot get over the cost. If it was under 400 than maybe. Wonder how many they have sold and if your install is typical.
I can’t imagine my install is typically, but this is the only one I have installed so I’m only guessing. As far as cost goes, everyone has to make there own call on if it’s worth it or not. In my case a $650 upgrade to a car with an original msrp of around $70k seem reasonable. If it was a 2000 Honda Civic not so much.
For sure, there is a plastic cover under the dash and it is just sitting on top of it. There is enough space but it is a tight fit so it won’t move around on its own. Still accessible without tools if you ever need to get to it.
I REALLY want this but they are at Android 8...and to me, you might as well have older tech because the price is simply not worth it on my end. Android 8 began in 2017! And they JUST stopped supporting Android 7 and many devices are losing their support for Android 8. If they kept up with the tech and were on 10..I would agree it was worth it. Hello, I recently got my alternator and car battery replaced, so all of my settings are back to default. The VLine screen doesn’t load up. Any tips? Thank you.
I think what I would try is disconnecting the power cable from the VLine2, wait about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. That will reset the VLine2 and hopefully restore everything back to working.
When you talk about a few months and frustration because you still have to take the car apart. I understand I am in the same situation. Although I have a Lexus IS 250, I still haven't been able to get the V line working. :-( The problem is that V line doesn't want to start at all, or it just starts with a black screen. When driving forward, the display shows the reversing camera. I don't know where to connect the return cable. And I don't know if I should connect it at all. I will be happy for any advice.
Sorry to hear you’re also having issues. My best advice is really just to contact GROM and follow whatever their instructions are. That’s how my issues got resolved in the end. The printed off instructions turned out to be wrong and they were able to tell me the correct procedure to get it all working. Bought it last fall in my December, felt like a bit the bullet and accepted that CarPlay wasnt going to work for a while, was convinced it was an iOS issue. Eventually it all started working. Similar to your screen issue I would get 80s tv static and if I keep toggling back and forth btwn FM and CD it will come on. Sometimes it works fine. The Bluetooth Mic is terrible. !!! Auto setting for mic gain isnt working great for me. Mounted near visor. I'd be willing to replace mic cable if it would make a difference.

How I’m the world are u getting getting 528 miles in a full take 🙃 and can u use stock navigation? How does RUclips or Netflix work with connecting to hotspot good or egh

I have an order for one of these for my 09 LS460 coming any day now and now I know to double check the model on the box and the harness.
Does the grom vline2 also work in the ls460 president version in the screen on the back?
I’m not sure if it does. If you click on the link in the description that takes you to the GROM website it may answer the question somewhere on their site.
I have the LS460L with the executive package and the grom vline 2 and the vline2 does not work on the rear screen.
Has it interferes with the mark Levinson sound system? Like quality wise ?
It does not degrade the quality in any way. Sounds great!!
Do you get to have HD Radio tuner with the GROM?
The GROM does have a radio tuner.
Thanks for the video Bennie. Do you mind sharing how you mounted it under the glove box? Thanks!
For sure, there is a plastic cover under the dash and it is just sitting on top of it. There is enough space but it is a tight fit so it won’t move around on its own. Still accessible without tools if you ever need to get to it.
Thanks Bennie!
Gonna mount mine there also. Was it easy to install. Gonna do this weekend
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
@@letzgo905 Its all about support of the OS
it's stability over modernity. I design automotive chips, we use 180 nm nodes from early 2000 to make them.
@@patrikgubeljak9416 But the developers do not support the updates of apps in old Android OS. Which ended in 2021 :(
It looks like your trials were worth it! Heres to many more years of problem free ownership with your LS. Do we have any newer options these days?
That’s a great question! I haven’t looked lately so I’m not sure.
So its android compatible?,and was it expensive
Yes, in fact the GROM unit is running an Android operating system.
Click on the link in the description for current pricing. I paid about $650.
@@bennieaust ok I see it 650 wow was it worth it
@@Jacblack69 , it's unfortunate I had all the issues getting it up and running. If you don't have those issues then it's definitely worth it IMHO.
i just bought the same car yesterday, can the radio be played while car is not running?
It can be! Just press the start button once WITHOUT pressing the brake.
So if I take it to a professional car sound installer, u think it should take about 1 or 2 hrs for them to install?
If they know what they’re doing an hour tops, that doesn’t mean that’s what they will charge you for though.
@@bennieaust yea I hear ya I'm thinking 200 or so for install, I've just been wanting a better navigation since the stock one is let's say way outta date 😂 plus it's definitely a upgrade to the stock look 👍 always looking for ways to improve my 08. I put 20 inch Donz Merlino on it, gonna get those Spec-D led tail light assembly, best car I've ever owned hands down 😎 ohh I also put those Lexus logo courtesy door lights took me 5 min to install and for 30 bucks nice upgrade at night, also changed to side mirror bulbs to LED
@@HexicanLS460L Hi Hex do you have links to those cool sounding LS460 accessories? I have the 09 with AWD. DONT ever get the AWD the suspension parts are 4X regular price and not much is out there aftermartket
Also I have read a lot of reviews even Bennie here has had to tear into it and re-install the unit a few times-
I am going to try it myself because I fear an installer would want $$$ everytime they have to touch it and from the VLINE research I have read that sometimes they have bad units that misbehave and replacements are sent that have to be re-installed. I build computers in my spare time though so this is a simple pass through add on. I only fear scratching my dash when taking it apart. But I feel I better get used to taking it apart just in case I start having issues down the road near the end of the warranty.
My installer took about 1.5 hours. No problems. Have it installed professionally!!!
@@rockflock4698 cool there is a good car sound system I staller 30 min from here there a compustar pro dealer
The problem is that V line doesn't want to start at all, or it just starts with a black screen.
They have since updated the instructions so hopefully I was the last to have that exact problem.
It is frustrating, but in the end it all worked out. I am very happy to have wireless CarPlay now!
@@bennieaust Oh my god, it works.
Like you, I had the wrong manual for the 2007-2009 LS460.
I found out from your video that I don't need it.
Your advise to contact GROM autdio again gave me hope that they will fix it.
I took pictures of everything again, they sent me another software again. And it started working.
Thanks to you too for sharing it on video.
@@jeyjey7631 I wish nobody else had any of these issues but it makes me happy if my video can help other people get the issues resolved.
Glad you’re up and running Jey Jey!!!!
Thank you. Very similar experience with 2011 LS460
Bummer :(
Thanks for the input for everyone though.
Hey is the unit working after you got the part and do you think it’s still worth buying thank you
Since I got it working it’s been great. It’s worth it to me but unfortunately that I had so many issues.
Do you know how your car has 528 cursing miles? It looks like 420 miles is good range for the car. I think mine only does like 390 on a tank.
Range is the prediction of the computer, based on past mileage. I drive a lot of highway miles so my average mpg is pretty high. The computer expects with the high mpg I will have a long range. And it’s right. I’ve had many tanks around 550 miles.
Dude what a terrible experience! I have it in my 05 and just wanted to watch other peoples experience. I think I've figured out that If I want to watch RUclips or RUclips tv etc that I need to disconnect carplay. tether my phone using my perosnal hotspot then I can watch it using app in GROM. The Bluetooth Mic is terrible. !!! Auto setting for mic gain isnt working great for me. Mounted near visor. I'd be willing to replace mic cable if it would make a difference.
Sounds like you have had your fair share off "fun" too. Hopefully it's working acceptably for you now. I'm happy with the end result for me. Just took some patients getting there.
I saw a comment on the Gas mileage range on my 2007 LS460. On the road I can get over 500 miles. I also saw comments on using a mouse.. might try
I haven’t used a mouse, but the mileage I’ve got first hand experience. I’ve done as good as 31.7mpg on a 200 mile trip. Not a big sample but pretty incredible.
I’ve hit 30 mpg multiple times. On the highway these cars are very fuel efficient. It’s actually surprising.
How I’m the world are u getting getting 528 miles in a full take 🙃 and can u use stock navigation? How does RUclips or Netflix work with connecting to hotspot good or egh
Just cruising on the highway. :)
You can toggle back and forth from the GROM to the factory system, so you can use factory navigation but I can't imagine wanting to. I use Waze or Google maps on my iPhone.
I haven’t used RUclips or Netflix so I can’t speak to that. Sorry.
Grom should just sell an upgraded screen so it's a full replacement
I’d buy it! That’d be sweet!
If only they were coming out with a vline3 with a better processor and newer version of Android. Ive been a pixel user for years and it would scare me knowing some apps from the play store are a year or two away from no longer working on Android 8
I completely agree. It's time for an update. If they are still a relevant company I'm sure they have an updated version in the works. I's probably worth wafting to find out.
@@bennieaust I'm looking to get into a LS and have been doing my research and that's my conclusion as well. I used to work for a Lexus dealer as a salesman in 2010 before going to graduate school and I always loved this version of the LS. So smooth and comfortable. Finding one sorted, or nearly sorted, and in good condition has been a fun search thus far.
@@chrishamby86 Mine is going up for sale this spring!
@@bennieaust I just got one. Well maintained 2007 on Cars and Bids. Picking it up in a couple of weeks. Any chance you can demo where you installed your VLine? I think I'm going to get the VLite if I can use SiriusXM at the same time as android auto. I know the VLine can't run SiriusXM at the same time which is a bummer.
@@chrishamby86 congrats on the purchase! I just located mine on top of the panel that goes under the glovebox/dash. The panel removes with no tools. I just set it on top of it. It's a snug fit, so it won't go anywhere, but you can access it if you need to.
Did this affect the sound system? For example I have the mark Levinson system and audio is important to me.
Thank you!
I also have the Mark Levinson system. It functions as normal but with the addition of CarPlay and Android Auto.
What about sound quality?
It's still running through the factory Amp and speakers. It does not reduce sound quality but also does not improve it.
@@bennieaust Thank you for your answer. That's not obvious, for example, in new cars, the sound quality from a phone is worse than a CD player. In this Carplay solution, they need to use DAP, and this is all about the DAP quality.
@@pawekorzeniewski4510 you’re welcome.
I don’t know the tech behind it but I do know the weakest link I’ve experienced is the quality of the recording. As long as you’re streaming service or audio files are of high quality you will be good to go.
did the dash say 277K?....sheesh!!!! dont nobody do it like toyota/lexus

DO NOT BUY GROM. Buy a BeatSonic. Works 100% flawless.
I had a NIGHTMARE time with Grom. Their unit everything in this video x10. Wireless disconnections, system crashes, Carplay not loading, backup camera not displaying 50% of the time or stuck when driving, low amperage USB charging, and so much more. I’ve literally taken my car apart a dozen times troubleshooting over several dozens of emails with Grom over months before I got them to return my unit. And they aren’t even on the same page. One email I’m talking to one tech another email another tech that has no clue what’s going on. The next email the tech is telling me to do the complete opposite of what the last guy told me to do. No one knows what they are doing at Grom.
They ultimately said my car is not compatible even though it’s on the compatible list. I believe they sold me a bad unit but, they refused to replace it and offer me a refund if the replacement didn’t fix the issue.
I replaced it with a BeatSonic unit and everything works flawlessly and requires zero firmware updates. It just works. Audio sounds amazing. The interface looks nicer and maps scroll onscreen just like on the iPhone. Etc. Those guys got it right at beatSonic.
Do you have a part number for the BeatSonic? I checked out their website and wasn't able to find anything?
Thanks!
