- Videoclip to Underworld's "Dirty Epic", from the album "dubnobasswithmyheadman".
I don't know if it's the "original" clip to the song, but the font overlays in the middle seem genuine tomato-ish.
Any hints are appreciated.
I remember being in a club in London at 5 in the morning and the DJ played Dirty Epic. Everyone was asking the DJ who it was by. Now everyone knows who Underworld are. Great tune. Brings back great memories of old skool clubbing in London. Go out on Friday come home on Sunday.
Best trance song of all time. Seriously, what else do you look for in music? Beautiful lyrics, wonderful composition, constantly shifting and morphing. Ten minutes of zero repetition or filler. Not to mention the emotion that builds in Karl's voice as the song marches steadily on, slowly becoming all you can hear. The guitar, the plucky little keyboard, the simple but infectious bassline, and all of it coming together like some pursuit of perfection. Not loving this song means not loving music.
Not trance
while grunge was taking its course in the 90's this started something else . . such GOLD - and what an album - still stands up today - timeless
We grew up in between both ways
this is timeless! listen to most other dancefloor stuff from 93 and its aged horrifically, this album was so ahead of everything else. I remember listening to the album in the late 90s and couldn't believe it came out when it did.
I don't think anything ages horrifically.
I agree, underworld is one of the few electronic artists whose music stands the test of time. Unbelievable production value for its time.
Keith France
Orbital too. Insides is a masterpiece.
@@squareinsquare2078 orbital,goldie, underworld,william orbit,aphex twin,massive attack,tricky, everything but the girl,portishead,the prodigy,the chemical brothers,etc. Are all overall timeless and production at its finest.
still one of my favourite underworld songs ever :)
one of my influences. this whole album is a masterpiece
Originally released as 'Dirty' by Lemon Interrupt
Your think ten minutes is too long then by six minutes you get hypnotised
I'm hypnotised straight away 😃
A track so perfectly epic that nobody has ever tried to remix it.
The piano starting from 5:24 is simply amazing to say the least!!! You can feel yourself being slowly drawn towards the never ending spiral of the great unknown.
"i've got phone sex to see me through the emptiness in my 501's"...
one of my favorite lyrics/quotes ever. genius...
here comes christ on crutches........... what a line...
my favorite underworld tune... by far....
After all these years, this is still fantastic on so many levels....
...and I still think he's a true poet!
here comes another god, like a buffalo thunder, with a smell of shiver, and a velvet tongue, and designer voodoo, I got phonesex to see me through the emptiness in my 501's ...
Freeze dried with a new religion__*
love this track....brings back loads of memories..
Omg I saw them play this song live, and we all went mental… and danced!
Nothing triggers memories of dark nights in the 90s like this track, come downs, old girlfriends, having no money, not being able to sleep. The video is great too.
'Listen to your eyes you said,
But all I could see was Doris Day'...
Doris Day, born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, passed away at the age of 97 on May 13th, 2019 in Carmel Valley, California...
Besides "Dirty Epic" she was referred to in two records that peaked at #1 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham! {1984} and "We Didn't Start The Fire " by Billy Joel {1989}...
She was also referred to in "Le De Da" by Ringo Starr {1999}, "Dig It" by the Beatles {1970}, and "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" from the musical 'Grease' {1978}...
May she R.I.P.
Music doesn't touch me anymore this way.
Neither does your uncle 😮
One of the best ever.
Absolutely the greastest recovery track of all time. I played this once at a scooter run full of soul and ska fans and 5 people came up to me after and asked for the details. Pure class that will always remind me of a special period of my life
This is the clip for Dirty Epic that came from the Underworld video compilation called "footwear repairs by craftsmen at competitive prices" .. at least I think that's what the video was called. I still have it on VHS. I need to rip it and upload the whole thing to RUclips.
absolutely disgusting that the "official video" only has the album cover instead of this
this song will remain fresh and beautiful even in 2050!!!this man is a genius!!
and we all went MENTAL.....and DANCED!
Together with Dark & Long (Dark Train Mix) and Tongue, this one is my favourite by Underworld.
Connector in..receiver out..
You let me in through the back door..
I would have to live the moment when this track was released... Then i was like 5 years of, i couldnt! but i would like to feel that british feeling which this track casts.
big time main song playing between San Antonio and Austin Tx.. 120mph.... 9pm... going out! full moon.. cool wind .. windows down... thisssssss
I forget about this song for extended periods and always when I relisten it brings me right back. good times:)
and the lights blinds my eyes
Wow, this song is amazing. This is the first time I've ever heard it but I was able to sing all the lyrics off by heart. I have no idea why, but I just recognize it somehow.. it's so.. comforting. Haunting. Soothing. I love it.
Still sounds as fresh as the day was created. It must be at least 15+ years old now.
Dubnobasswithmyheadman was an album i just kept on repeat, when I was a kid, as all the songs including this where special and moody.
Cheers for posting!

Then we all went mental...and danced
I thought he said, "...mental and dense.."
I believe you're right
The confusion of the E generation which let a lot of inner repression out ! Summer of '88 still raving
this is my favourite Underworld track for those very reasons........ so many memories, bloody good memories..... just beautiful
Underworld still the GREATEST !
yes
Driving across the city on the freeway late at night, in the winter, in the rain, the idea of going to a club thoroughly unappealing, grab the mix tape with this track queued up, the windshield wiper temp starts to match the beat...becomes hypnotic...you think about what you should have said when she called you an asshole and slammed the door, you turn it over in your mind like a sharp cornered cube of lead, but you never want the night or the sensation to end or give way to a tepid dawn...
Here comes Christ on crutches!
I loved reading all the prior comments, it is great to see people around the planet so impacted by this work of art as I am.
Dirty Epic is deeply and profoundly 'mine' and at once it is 'our'.
thanks for making my love of this song richer
i remember hearing this back in '93 i think. i was only in the fifth grade, and i was awe-struck. beautiful song.
there is a comfortable dark meloncholic feel to this album which the tracks are arranged perfectly ,not really all thet gritty, just a smooth dark seduction love it glad i refound this after 10yrs
so atmospheric....takes you somewhere but i cant place exactly where...u know the point where everyones gone home on a late saturday night...its just before the sun comes up...still darkish....litter blowing around on the street...i feel so dirty..
As far as I know, this song is about Underworld (illegally?) listening to people's phone conversation (channel 6? connector in. receiver out?). I learned this in an interview with them, and they said that it eventually became too much, because people laid their emotions bare, and there were all sorts of family secrets discussed (affairs, etc.).
This interpretation of the song make more sense if you listen to the remix, which features fragments of sentences rather than these lyrics. songmeanings.com/songs/view/60232/ philsreport.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/brilliant-how-gillette-soccor-saturday.html
Listen to your eyes she said.
I was too busy...
I get my kicks on channel 6!
I'm so dirty...
I get my kicks on Channel 6
Jes! Me too is it Underworld channell?
to the off peak
Original to me. My age gives some a way, I'm now 33 and it's in a epic in song and video to me. It's what I remember as a youth :)
amazing! takes me back 16 years... givin me the goosebump!
I get my kicks on channel six!
this is the original. i have the vhs tape with it that came out in the 90's. classic!
this was when me and my friends were heavily into.. rave stuff
First time I heard this was in the Slimlight in London at around 4 am one summer morning and I was completely munted. Good memories from the 90's
immerse me in this forever! 10mins of sheer bliss!
I bet Bob Dylan wishes he wrote these lyrics!
I never NOT-- LOVE this !!!
Saw them play the whole album at a 20th anniversary gig at the the royal festival hall in 2014. Took the roof off. Strangely, it was an all seat venue and this bloke and his girlfriend just sat in the seats next to us through the whole thing while the place went absolutely ape shit around them. Probably went to the cinema and a meal after while everyone else gurned off clubbing.
It's almost a miracle that I knew this song. Because in 1994 Underworld was not famous in Japan. I still don't understand the meaning of the lyrics because I don't understand English. But I was obsessed with this song like a drug. At that time, I got something far more valuable than a millionaire who made a lot of money and a man who got a big house. I was only 18 at that time.
5:24、5:37、7:14
Yeah, man... that's the original. I remember when that song came out, it absolutely floored me. Awesome post.
@thedungeondelver There were MANY nights of my life spent listening to this track hoping the night would never end.
Here comes christ on crutches!.
The thing with this is it's just layer upon layer of subtlety changing synths and keyboards building to a crescendo....simple genius and easily there most well crafted song...i could listen to this till i die:) its a muscial gem...here comes christ on crutches!!
right on..
though I do think most of their music also weaves long threaded beautiful monologues
driving across the desert at night in August, as an Arizona monsoon thunderstorm flashes in the distance...
magique, magnifique les mots ne sont pas assez puissant pour decrire ce que je ressent quand j ecoute Dirty Epic.
Thanks for uploading, freakin' love this tune. one of underworld's best...
karl's 'stream of consciousness' lyrics can be quite random..'call me wet trampoline she said today' anyone??..but they fit great into this epic track....
It sure is a Dirty Epic
Absolutely brilliant.. Will always be so
Epic!
But they couldn't go far wrong basing it on "Dirty"....
One of the pioneering groups of the 90's for sure.
501s refers to the Levis brand of men's jeans, the verse clearly alludes to the lead singer's home sexuality "here comes another god like a buffalo thunder with a smell of sugar and a velvet tongue and designer voodoo..."
@Niven42 i signed in just to upvote this. that was a truly epic compilation; i can't tell you how much time i spent lost in my own head listening to it!
It's about unemployment in the mid-90's in England. There were only 5 channels on the telly then, and that's if you were lucky. Most of us only had 4. And even those showed only junk late at night when you're sitting there trying to stave off the boredom, but "all i could see was Doris Day" living in the nighttime and sleeping in the day because "the off peak electricity" was cheaper (2.5p per kW/h instead of 7.5p) and elecricity was expensive on a girocheque ...
So calm down It's not blasphemy
Night driving in the deserts of Nevada, Utah.... thinking of past loves... and the light, it blinds my eyes. oh, so dirty.
The lyrics rock.Buffalo thunder,Christ on crutches.Karl,s the man when it comes to complimenting the tune and embellishing it with his poetic narrations.Personal fave has gotta be Juanita, tunes bliss and the lyrics take you on the journey. Underworld, guys are gods...D
Thumbs up if you first heard this song on the '94 Wax Trax "Afterburn" Sampler. : )
I remember the very first time I saw this video on the USA Network's program... Night Flight. Later, I purchased a copy of 'Footwear Repairs By Craftsmen At Competitive Prices'.
best used album purchase ever
i can't believe somebody sold this back to Zia...flove this album, especially this track and "Dark and Long"
Base on youtube video, unheard of, nicely uploaded sir.
Still one of their best track. Good old times ^^
unbelievable!!! I love love LOVE this song! it brings back memories of long muggy summer nights! :D
so many late nights while growing up in south london
Scupp....from Ireland!!!!!
"here comes christ on crutches" was a hint to a dream for me. In the dream, a dead friend walked into a patio,
the ticking of his crutches told me he was coming round the corner. I was happy to see him.
again. really. nothing comes close to what i just heard for the one millionth time.
have got to get me more underworld.
Amazing melody and rhytm!!!!!
I was wondering if someone could put up dirty epic/cowgirl together as they blend on the album. always my favorite.
Never saw this clip.
This was my favourite track for 5 years. At least. Still gives me goosebumps after all this time. Totally unlike other Underworld, but totally awesome.
If I was to make a record (and I am trying!) I could die the next day if it were half as good as dubnobass.
Cept for the last track, it's pretty crap :) by comparison of course.
Can we stop the train? I need to get back to the 90s!
Wonderful and melacholic
i bought Dubnobasswithmyheadman when it was first released and to me Dirty Epic was the best track on the album .... its a shame they've not made anything like it since
Awesome song. It makes me feel sad but i still love it.
this is THE EPIC!! certainly a big track on the soundtrack of my life.
So melodic and moody! Love it!
immerse me in this forever!
The more I listen the more I like it.
Ive never heard of a pop rock/ electronica/ a song that sounded like this
yes, complete ecstasy, enveloping, warmth riding trains and casual encounters. all visual images and pathos without use of rx.
Desde Chile un fan Underworld los papitos de la electronica!! :-)
.... oh man, oh mann ! ! ! .......wo ist die Live Version ? Love
Pola 4 jutro ja slusam Underworld...Eto sta je Ljubav!
OMG.. ICRYING WITH THIS SONG..!!
