When I was working in China during the late 1990s and early 2000s there were few homeless people but mostly in big cities not in small towns. They would appear late at night and they would take shelter at 24hr cafes. Most of them do hold a job but they just don't want to rent an apartment but rather sleep out in the open and when the weather turns bad they hang out at 24hr fast food joints or sleep at their place of work double up as the " Unofficial " security guard. I know one of them who works as a cleaner at the place I was working.
@@wumao6797 But you are referring to 20 years ago. China has developed so much in 20 years ... I would guarantee you that if you went there today ... you would not recognise the country. I saw NO street people and I went to big cities. I went to Beijing and I went to Shanghai (plus many other cities). I saw NO street people in either of those Mega Cities ... and they are both bigger that New York City in terms of population ... yet in New York City there were Street People everywhere.
Western Media: our Democracy is great so that our homeless can have a freedom to roam free in the street, China kept their homeless in concentration camps 😂😂🙈🙈
Another thing is, Chinese people would always prefer to save some money, in case some unexpected accident happens, like losing their job, or someone in the family gets very sick and needs to be hospitalized for a long period, their life won't be dragged down. But in the US a lot of people don't save some of their salary for the future, so they are always in danger of losing everything.
@@dn9507 in america 3000 usd is not enough for cost of living and most people income lower than 3000. That's why in america people didn't go to work and just wait the stimulus from government. Because the stimulus pay them more money than them working. That's why america have worker shortage. The inflation in america make the cost of living increasing and keep getting higher.
The answer is quite simple Jason. If a nation constantly fights wars all over the world, they don"t have money for fighting poverty in their own country.
i used to volunteer @ needle exchanges & homeless shelters in Philadelphia, PA .. speaking to those people.. they hate China. all their problems are blamed on China, even their own drug addiction. (this is how propagandized Americans are)
@@white_devil_dethroner There is a Fentanyl problem in the USA but while it is made in China it is prescribed by US doctors and supplied by US pharmacists. They are propagandised to such an extreme the country is collapsing.
In 20 years China gdp grew 13 trillion $(2-15trillion) and USA grew 11 trillion $(9-20trillion), not bad at all for US but where did all that money go? to the already wealthy and super wealthy ones while the average Joe haven't seen their salaries raise for 30 years! That's the real problem.
I live in Bangkok,Thailand since many years. I haven't seen any homeless people. Why? Because the family members they help each other, take care of each other. They won't let any of the family members sleep on the streets and beg money. That's the nature of Asian people. Love and compassion. What a blessing !!!!
Like in Qatar under the football games, where people was forcibly removed from their current housing, their passport taken from them to keep them trapped for completion of stadiums.. So was it in China during the Olympic games in Beijing. Except it was their own citizens, who came from poor areas, predominantly in the south-western regions. In those villages there are not even streetlights, and the young strong goes to the big cities to work in unwanted jobs. Such services as maids, factories and harbour work.. When the Olympic games were to begin, they were kicked out of the city so they would not be seen. As they are like immigrants in their own country.. a low standing citizen, in what is portrayed as a progressive nation. That is how communism work. Only a select group can reap the benefits from the work of many
I live in California and it’s horrible , it’s so bad right now, they the people are trying to recall their governor in a vote . Thanks for sharing China 🇨🇳 is beautiful
I'm in Phoenix AZ and this city is being flooded with Californians migrating out of that state. Property prices are going up like crazy and has driven many young professional middle class Arizonians out of the market. People with Californian license plates drive like maniacs on the freeway. I hope they don't turn Arizona into another liberal state.
@@bohan9957 hahaha…okay I’m mean no disrespect, just so you know that every summer we see cars with Arizona licenses driving around in San Diego beach areas like maniac. We had the same complains about Arizonans. 😂😂😂
I just sent this link to a friend, who had a completely incorrect impression of China. This one is a fantastic video to start with, particularly if one is new to your channel. She will watch all your old videos and future ones as well as subscribe.
Thank you very much for introducing the real China to your friends.More than 70 years ago, China was one of the poorest countries in the world.China has developed rapidly in the past 40 years, although it may not be perfect now. Most Chinese people are very hardworking and believe that China will get better and better
@@franklinpenguin My pleasure, it is time the rest of world wakes up, and sees the truth. Now with the Internet and Mobile phones there is no excuse. I wish we had those in the 1970's and 1980's
Amazing. I come from India and overpopulation is often thrown in as one of the reasons, as to why we have many citizens in extreme poverty. However, China has even more people than us. Having lived in London, even Tier 4- Tier 5 cities in China look better. Not to mention, minimal violent crime, strict drug laws and a law biding society. We all have a lot to learn from China!
here I am a Latino living here in San Diego California and yet I have more respect for the Asians here and the Chinese community as well for their hard work and care for family values 😊
This is sooooooo true. I've travelled to USA and I've travelled to China. The thing that caught me by surprise is the Street People in USA. I even saw the ones you see on TV in Los Angeles under one of their bridges holding a sign saying he was a retired Vet and needed food. In New York City, I was staying on the 20th Floor of a Hotel only to be woken up by noises of bins at ground level were Street People were going through the trash to find stuff. The amount of Graffiti in USA was disturbing ... some were Artistic, others were not. But in all of China, I never saw ANY Street people. Everybody had a home to go to. And their Cities were absolutely clean. So for those trashing China ... you really need to go and visit China to see the TRUTH. I could NOT believe how misguided and misinformed we are until I visited China for myself. I was blown away. It was NOTHING like we've been told back home. And China is the most Futuristic Countries I've ever visited ... leaving all other countries (even USA) for dead. A Coopers to China!
@@johnchow8372 Good point. I didn't think of that. So ... we're all in a dilemma then. USA citizens are trapped in their own Country and hence will never be about to objectively see the truth and hence are bound by what they're being told by the Media. Sad. And a bit worrying as well because they can be manipulated into conflict as determined by their Corporations. You just reminded me. USA Citizen have the LOWEST ownership of Passports in all the developed countries of the world. Which ... what you pointed out ... could be the reason for that.
Couldn't agree more, GDP surely seems very misleading as an economic indicator, unless China is grossly understating its vs The US overstating its. Also, GDP doesn't reflect the lack of violent crime and the absence of homelessness. I think the day China (officially) surpasses The US economy in the not too distant future, is the day many people will be more curious and open minded about China.
Speaking of graffiti: If you see graffiti along a street in any Chinese city, they're always work of arts and and you're completely safe, day and night. If you see graffiti in any U.S. cities, turn around and get the hell out of that area. You're in a bad neighborhood and might get mugged or shot. Usually these graffiti are filled with racial hate slurs, Nazi symbols, and gang signs. Sad...
Chinese parents would like to support their children in buying a new apartment for marriage, but they also control their children a lot, like schools or hobbies ...hahaha, but they definitely love their children from another aspect
India is now the country with the largest population. In fact, China’s concept of health was very poor 20 years ago. However, through education and government intervention, China has improved a lot.
Then you haven't seen how badly affected they are, by smog.. Plus other dangerous polluting substances. Recently it has been revealed, that for over 12 years, trucks carrying fuel and crude oil.. drove straight from the refinery to the cooking oil factory. Without cleaning the tanks.. Now there is talks of the link between the toxic materials, and the high number of cancer cases in China. Last time this was a big story was back in the 80's.. also in China. Imagine what is going on behind the curtain. That too can be said about India, where the government is in control of what news comes out

My half brother lives, works and my sister in law is Chinese . If you ask me if China is advance I can say it is true! I still use my ATM and cash whereas they use digital pay as the norm in China. You can even buy stuff from a vendor at the flea market using just your smartphone! China has more people using digital pay than any country in the world. I just wish we were more adaptable to new technology and embrace it but some people are just not use to changes but China is open to it.
When I grew up in China, I had never seen any homeless people in any Chinese cities. Although the average income of the people in China is lower than many western countries, most Chinese owe their houses, and there is no need to pay house tax and council tax, the utility bills are very cheap as well, food and other service costs are cheap too, so the people's living standards are actually no worse than many developed countries.
I have to say it's not true. Decade ago, I was in college, a homeless lady wandered in campus for years since she have some mental issue. Luckily, she got help from government before I graduated, sent to home town and get basic allowance. I also saw few homeless man during my childhood, not much but do exist. I also saw some of them in midnight MacDonald in Beijing few years ago. Though, I have to admit that homeless isn't common.
I’m a Vietnamese, 10 years ago I went to Melbourne for studying, the very first thing that shocked me is that there were many homeless people on the street of Melbourne CBD. They’re not old or disabled or mental ill people but young and look strong, and yes they still asked for other people money and mercy. In my country, no one would behave like that, as long as you have no health issue, you’ll want to work for money, if you’re ill, disabled your family, your neighborhood and local authority will take care of you. The 2nd shocking issue for me is the racism among my western Aussie classmates, they think they’re superior and I feel sad for them. Tellers in the bank, shop clerks, they all show their racism to Asian people like me. Many of my friends admire western culture, freedom but not me. I decided to come back to my country, now I’m proud of my decision to comeback and contribute to my motherland. You’re welcome to come and see my country, and you’ll feel like you’re at your home with our people warm regards. See you, my friends.
Western countries have prejudice and discrimination against all but their white counterparts. They treat black people with fried chicken and watermelon, and yellow people with squinting eyes. It is their norm to think that they are superior, and their vagabonds are also normal, such as drugs, casinos, and the pornography industry. Of course, this is part of it. There are also failed entrepreneurs and unemployed workers, which is also their government's inaction🤔🤔🤔
Very appropriate video, I just got home, was grocery shopping (I live in Montreal, Canada). The supermarket is around 4 blocks from my house, I live downtown; Oh dear, the homeless, the drunks and the junkies are taking over the city. There are streets that reek of piss, and with this heat, the situation is dire. Disgusting.
I visited Montreal in 2019. I took the metro on the day I arrived there. There were 2 people holding paper glasses begging for money at the exit ticket gate. It was so funny. I had seen beggars in every country including China, but never at a ticket gate.
Your comments hit me. I live in Shanghai and am planning to move to Vancouver for study. I'm still on the fence because of COVID-19. I want to go to Canada to study master program in computer science and then look for a new job. Because I yearn for that kind of life close to nature. I heard that Canada is very clean, Canadians are of very high quality which is against what you say. Now I'm confused. I have a well-paid job in Shanghai, however, feel much pressure to afford a house( an apartment with 100 square meters in shanghai needs 1.5-2 million USD ), so I want to live in Canada. As a Canadian, can you give me some advice on whether I should immigrant Canada?
@@zhewu9052 I am in Vancouver right now. This is where my house is, not where my home is. They just need your butt here because as soon as you landed, you started paying right away. DON'T BE STUPID!
The real truth about homelessness is that it is mainly an overwhelming sense of "HOPELESSNESS". *I live in the Bay Area. When people feel they don't belong (family/community) or they can't keep up with the capitalistic class system (money) the abysmal downward spiral of mental depression often than not leads the individual to resort to drugs to cope... ensuring their ability to comeback that much more challenging. The problem with worshipping money above all else is what you see in the West: no communal identity and therefore no loyalty to each other...
I was homeles n broke once,,never touched booze or drugs just looked for work until I found it ,if theres was no work I traveled where it was. Saved enough to buy house, fliped it and made more $ bought new house cash, life is what you make it. !
It's true the government has done a lot to help people out of poverty, but in Hong Kong you can find homeless individuals in certain places late at night. The Hong Kong government is trying to deal with this problem. There are many causes of this problem such as high rent, high living standard and unemployment etc.
Chinese people are worshiping money too, but in the Chinese culture you have a strong sense of collectivism whereas in Western culture the sense of individualism is given priority to (hence the priority given to human rights and freedom of speech as compared to alleviation of poverty or protection of minorities)
Jason, you and Jiao are both important asset for China: introducing to the world the real China. For being a socialist country, the government devoted much resources to "eliminate" poverty, build modern infrastructure and "lift" the poor. Chinese, rich and poor, now enjoys their life much better than 40 years ago, thanks to the reform. Chinese government has been doing a good job building up the country, better than US for sure.
I am a Chinese people. Welcome to my country China. And visit, travel and learning Chinese language. Chinese like peace. But USA government like war. I hate it.
Greetings from Shenzhen. 12 years ago in Beijing there were still a little bit of homeless but they were taken care with the poverty program since about 9-10years ago... Since then, I didnt see any. Now in Shenzhen for 2 years and still no homeless anywhere, wherever I go, even the small factory cities around or the villages etc... Been in almost all provinces, and worked with a lot of minorities programs aswell, so I've travelled a bit, but this is something they really worked super well on. Great video, you got a new subscriber
It is very difficult to believe this RUclipsr, as I got taught that only a DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY can create an ecosystem to eradicate homelessnes and poverty . Plus China, officially is a DEVELOPING NATION . Can you imagine how wealthy China will be when it becomes a DEVELOPED NATION - HOLY COW.
@@laisensei6984 I did question my "indoctrination" at the grand age of 67! I'm so glad I did, because China has, & continues to evolve a governance system which works for her needs. I'm fed up of the "China bashing". IMO we could learn so much from her to improve our own governance. For a start - stop criticizing everyone else, keep our "eyes on our own plate", understand the fundamental causes of our problems, & get on & do something about it.
I'm actually a bit perplexed on why the Chinese government continues to call China a developing nation. Is it because of the low Per Capita compared to other industrialized nations? Mathematically, Chinese per capita is low because of China's huge population. If you factor in GDP, manufacturing throughput, industrial diversity, technological expertise, advanced infrastructure, human development index, literacy rate, health care system, and number of Chinese global corporations in the fortune 100 category, China ticks every box to be categorized as an industrialized nation.
@@bohan9957 Because despite how developed coastal cities and coastal provinces has gotten over the years, there are still multiple areas of the inland provinces that can still be considered in not very different from the state of a developing nation. Even the so called "nine years of obligatory education" has yet to fully cover every single corner of the country. Much more still needed to be done before the entirety of the country can be considered a developed nation. Good thing is that the Chinese government is very willing to invest as much resources as possible to get those distant inland areas out of poverty.
Jason, most of people in the west can't even tell where Asia is , let alone the difference between Asian countries. I appreciate for your efforts to educate western people about China. A big challenge ahead but I hope you will succeed.
Some Americans can't even tell on their own map where they are, LOL... I ain't kidding ya, kiddo. My classmate from Philadelphia had a tough time pointing out his home city during a seminar. He pointed to Chicago.... LOL. This is a true story!
The senior management person ,my previous boss visited my country in ASEAN near year 2000.he was impress our upper middle-class live semi luxury life. Needless to say, many ASEAN people are well educated , run businesses well and live a very comfortable life The west still think most of us live in semi slum environment
in fact, China looks nice for traveler (cheap food, safe, high efficiency and travel convenient) but if you live in China, you will face: expensive house, kids education, competition pressure, political opacity...
Jason, You nailed it when you answered your mother-in-law's phone call for dinner in local dialect (which I speak). Enjoy your life in China, it probably does not get any better than that.
I think you really covered it with the way families are in the US compared to China. Something has changed in the last 50 years in the US where most families are not close and do not help each other the way they used to. I remember years ago when my grandparents were alive we would have cousins upon cousins at family visits. Now even siblings do not talk as much or help each other.
Similar changes have taken place in China. After all, sometimes you can't participate in festivals because of work. The Chinese New Year is a family gathering Festival. Maintained the relationship with grandparents, cousins and cousins. The second largest festival, the Mid Autumn Festival, is also a festival that emphasizes the reunion of family members. Maintain the relationship between parents and grandparents.
@@arossaos344 Then you can choose not to participate. This is not mandatory. This kind of party can be played with cousins of the same age. Taking me as an example, I also choose to sit at the same table with my cousins of the same age.
OMG Life in a small Chinese city could be sooooo happy with your families and friends around. Everyone always support each other. Super low cost but the city has everything you need!
I am retired , I remember when people with mental problems were taken care of here in the US. In the 80's they were released and many became politicians and presidents.
Reagan released them all under the precept that the only reason they are having problems is because they are mistreated in mental institutions, and if they are put in neighborhood group homes they will get better. As someone who had a group home two doors down, with them fighting one another and once, a semi-nude one decided to sit on my porch, I can tell you Reagan was wrong and stupid.
Me too, I thought L.A is the best city so I went to L.A, I saw maybe 40 tents in a small square in a park so I told the taxi driver “wow! They are going to have a concert or event in this place! Look at those tents , so cute, maybe they are waiting the star. What event is it? Who will perform? “ But the taxi driver didn’t answer me anything. Other people in the taxi looked embarrassed and avoid my question too. I went to San Diego old town station. I saw many rats are running , I was very happy because I love animals and I never seen rats in china, I thought they are very cute like pets. I mean I still think they are cute. Even racons are very cute too.
Watching your videos has convinced me I'm in the wrong country. Take the topic of this video for example; I just got back from a walk in the US. I was asked for change from several people, the first one, I only had a dollar on me, so I gave it to him to be nice. He immediately asked me for drugs when I handed him the money. I've also noticed a distinct lack of roadside trash in your videos. The egg was cracked, true. However, the trash I saw on my walk was empty liquor bottles, drug needles & random piles of miscellaneous junk. Normally I'd pick the trash up, but I stopped doing that because of COVID. Seriously! Who leaves used drug needles at a playground where children play? Anyway, I hope I can explore China someday. Keep up the great work!
China is friendly, beautiful, clean and very safe. You can get everything you want at very reasonable prices. The scenic spots are awesome. I bet you will not regret visiting China and Will go back for more like I do.
I once walked alone at 2am in the street in Shenzhen and it was safe and peaceful and the air was cool and fresh. There were still fruit stalls operating at this time of the night. How wonderful.
As a native Chinese, I will tell you that there are homeless people in China, but you can't see them, most of them are in remote places, but all the big cities have city managers who do not allow homeless people and street vendors. Chinese people attach great importance to family and stable job, many parents will use all the money to find a job for their children and get married, buy a house, buy a car
After traveling 43 countries, I can definitely say, Chinese government care and love its people and has uplift millions out of poverty in past thirty years. During this thirty years corruption has entered into the people of USA. They just worship money and left great family values which made them a great nation once. I pray Chinese people stay lovely like they always are. Thanks for a beautiful video blog
@@omav999 so what, I didn’t say it has taken out everyone but hundreds of millions out of poverty. China definitely is a success story. Go visit 30/40 cities of China and compare it with India or USA or Africa. They made lot of progress on infrastructure and poverty elimination
China is awesome! I hate that I wouldn't be able to listen to some of my favorite music like Mercyful Fate or Felled but heck! Look! Did they take influence from Socrates? Also, don't like the sexism there... And racism seems to be there through videos I watched to.

High living cost is not an excuse to have so many people living on the street. Singapore is a high living standard county and you will find difficult to see anyone living on the street. Homeless people is a very common issue in western county.
I think it's also about the culture. In many Asian cultures, we are taught that as long as you can still move around, you should go find a job and work to support yourself and your family. That's why in China you see people who lost everything from tragedies working really hard to get their life back. You see people who lost their legs or arms from accidents learning how to adapt to new life and take the challenge and develop new skills. I used to buy hand-made clay flowers from a disabled man on the street every week. He lost both hands and one leg from an accident but he never gave up his life. Instead, he learned how to make decorations using his mouth and arms and foot and even made it to the newspaper with his story. He never took donations from people buying his stuff. And he's just one example of the many.

I lived in China for four years, in Shandong province and i travelled around, Beijing, Anhui, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Xian, Shanghai, Nanjing, Rizhao, i've been in big cities and it small villages and not once have i ever seen a homeless person. I can't swear there's none, China is too big, but personally not one. I am Spanish and here also there's more and more precariousness
@Daniel Okeke TV that might be wherever you live, not where i lived in China! actually many nights i've passed by the McDonnald's near my house and never have i seen any homeless person sleeping in there. Not in there nor in any other place. And why would i need a chinese person to identify a homeless person?🤣 a homeless person is someone who doesn't have a house, so either sleeps in the streets or spends the nights in some night shelter... In Spain, where i'm from, it's not rare to find homeless persons sleeping under bridges and alleys, in the bank office doors and other shop doors, also in the parks, even during the daytime... 🤷🏻♀️
@Daniel Okeke TV Also, McDonald's is open 24h and those places or karaokes for example are were some people can just spend the night. i knew a chinese student whose father was violent, she spemt some nights around those places! About actual homeless people staying at McDonald's i've only heard about it in Hong Kong and that area, no surprise after decades of british economy-politics... life in Hong Kong area is only affordable for a few, house pricing, salaries and life cost... they have big problems! hope the chinese government will soon pit and end to all that

Also, if you don't know where i lived in China, care to read my comment in the first place 🤣 Again, as i alreqdy said not everyone sleeping at a McDonalds is an actual homeless person, there are multiple cr@p situations as for why someone will nap in there, as i also already said. But you stay pressed and obsessed dude
@Daniel Okeke TV Shops don't "give them shelter" but rather people is free to hang out in 24h open shops. McDonalds near my house eas a great choice for a burger+cone after going out to the pub!! i can tell who is drunk napping, who is wandering, who is passing by and who is a homeless person which usually carries with him/her all the life belongings with them around, and again as i already said in my 1st comment... i haven't ever seen a homeless person in my YEARS of living in China 🤷🏻♀️🆒
@Daniel Okeke TV in China they dont usually throw you out anyway, you can stay there studying, working, sleeping or doing whatever, the workers won't care and companies won't even bother to mind other people'd business. As i said i know people that have stayed the night in restaurants and karaokes, it's not that my chinese boyfriend has told me, it's also my chinese friends and specially my own experience of years living in China, again i haven't seen homelessness as there's in the Western countries, it's shameless here (the West). I've just come back from the city centre in Madrid and i've seen more than10 and some empty beds+personal items in two closed shops doorways... it's getting worse and worse and in the meantime governments are busy minding their mogul friend's pockets...
My experience in L.A. was shocking. Walking down Hollywood Blvd, there were trashes everywhere. A big black trash bag was blowing into air and floating everywhere. Venice beach had homeless tents everywhere. That was a little over 2 years ago.
LA is way too overhyped and misrepresented. There are glamorous pockets where the rich live but the average person cannot afford to live in those areas. The core of the city and where most live and hang out is much more run down and awful looking, just with palm trees all over to try to distract from the reality of what it looks like at ground level especially as a pedestrian. The nicest spots are near or in the hills or along the coast, minus Venice area. The rest, not so nice looking. San Diego and Santa Barbara are much better looking as a whole but there are also many homeless in them as the homelessness issue is a national problem in the US.

Totally agree 1000%. USA is out of control. I'm a foreign student from Indonesia ( Honestly, the Universities in USA are still one the best in the world), I witness so many homelessness, crimes , break-in ( cars), drug addicts and gun violence. Most of the street, in the poor area, are littered with garbage and human feces. San Francisco.....you just type " Tenderloin area", " Break-in" , " stealing "and " Crimes". At night ( 10PM...) the city, basically, is dead!!! So Irony, the Policeman of the world but USA can't even control/manage the country.

I was in San Francisco before. Within the time of smoking one cigarette in front of my hotel, there were at least 2 homeless asking me for a cigarette. There are tents just next to the road too, don't need a tunnel.
That because China made no bone about China being socialism. / communism. Latest is Xi talking about a fairer distribution of wealth and government looking into transparency of payments of commission to cab drivers. A leader in a capitalist nation would be castrated and ousted within days if he make that statement.
In China (and to a less extent in Russia) the Oligarchs are controlled by the Government for the benefit of the people. In the West, even Canada, the Oligarchs control the government for the benefit of the elite 1-5%. There is no equitable distribution of wealth. In America Especially!! There, Lobbying of Government, is legalized Bribery. In most cases 90% of legislation is created to benefit the Wealth, often times written by those who benefit from it by the Lobbyists. The 10% of legislation, faces a harder path to being enacted, because it often goes counter to the benefit of the Wealthy, as it benefits the lower classes. Just look at the legislation during the Reagan to Trump era, that was suppose to aid the countries poorest during times of want. Who got the most (often 80-90%)? It was bailouts for the wealthy, and an after thought pittance for the rest of society. Even their Covid Relief packages. That should open the eyes of the population, but the Media, ranted against it as Communism or Socialist Policies, to a society brainwashed to believe that they will one day be in the upper class, if they work hard. They vote against their own best interest for that reason.
The Western media is too powerful, afterall, one of their strengths are at brainwashing the people. But situations are changing, there are more americans being aware of it but they still have a long way to go

I visited Hawaii in 2018. On the first day of the trip, I saw heaps of tents with suitcases in a seaside park. I thought they were tourists having fun initially, but I realized I was wrong later. Ironically, a few good-looking and well-dressed Japanese couples were taking wedding photos in the same park. What a different world in such a short distance!

Actually travel to China is very cheap. Before the pandemic (it is very different during the pandemic) the cost of flights (2 way tickets from CA to China could be as low as US$500. Hotel and food are much cheaper than US too
Why are you asking China to do everything? We should instead be inspired by the development of infrastructures in China and do it ourselves.. like the highways, railways and hydropower stations that they've built in rough geographical terrain like ours.. we should be focusing on producing scientists and engineers instead of hotel and tourism managers.. we should stop the people of the four major indigenous ethnic communities Magar, Gurung, Rai and Limbu from serving in foreign armies.. Nepali and their children living abroad should be inspired to return to Nepal and develop this country
I am not from China. Nepal is located next to the most environmentally harshest provinces of China where food cannot be grown to support its population. The 2 1/2 million natives rely on food grown in valleys and other parts of China. That is why about 3 million Tibetans live in other Chinese provinces as far north in Gansu about 1000 km from Tibet. That said, the terrains from China to Nepal are treacherously steep and rugged to build a rail system ranging from 4000 m in Tibet to Kathmandu of about 1500 m. To power the trains, there is also no electricity along the route from Shigatse to Kathmandu. As a crow flies, the distance maybe about 250 km, but the rail line would likely be double that distance to avoid rivers, mountains, and permafrost land. The cost of building that railway will likely be more than the GDP of Nepal. My best wishes to the folks of Nepal.
@@Mayangone yeah by the time the train line will be built and start running, the world might already have invented new transportation technology suitable for transport between the region..
Hi Jason and ALL ! I've Been to China Quite few Times. I Did Never, Ever, See a Homeless / Beggar Person There : Shanghai , Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Kunming, Guilin, Yangshuo, Lijiang...Even in Remote Areas Like the Small Village of Qiaotou in Yunnan Province, Where I Started The Insane 3 Days Tiger Leaping Gorge Trek. One of the Reasons is Because Chinese People Are Happy With Their Government Huge Investments Everywhere. Another Reason is There Are Jobs Available Everywhere→→→Everywhere.
Indeed the last time I saw a beggar in China was in 2001, at a bridge in Beijing. Since then, much has changed and social reforms and economic development has delivered many from poverty. There are definitely still poor people to be sure, but they do not meet the level of destitution and death that poor Americans face.
China is a country of homeowners with more than 90% of households owning homes (87% in urban and 96% in rural China). At the same time, more than 20% Chinese households own multiple homes, higher than many developed nations. I am from urban China and I actually think the 87% urban home ownership rate is underestimated. Because 30 years ago, there was no housing market in China. Being a socialist country, everyone was distributed with free dorms or housing from their employers. The housing reform started in the 90s, and people were given options to buy homes from employers at a very discounted rate. My parents first home was bought in 1999 like that for 90,000 RMB, now it is worth 3 million. But we don't have Laojia (ancestral homes), those who have Laojia are from rural China, where everyone was given their share of lands and built houses on their own lands because of the land reform carried out by CPC. Land is collectively owned by villagers and is not allowed to trade freely, so some rich people can't just go to a village and hoard as many lands and homes as they want and cause others homeless. When rural people go to cities to work and lose their jobs, they can just go back to their Laojia where they for sure have their own lands and houses through the land reform, may not be good ones, but still homes. When urban people lose their jobs, they still have their homes that they purchased through the housing reform with no mortgage or property tax. So most Chinese are already secured with housing. That is a very unique situation of socialism China that contributes to the no homeless phenomenon in China. In other countries, especially developing countries, when rural farmers lose their homes and lands due to different reasons, and they can't find jobs in cities, they have no Laojia to go back to, so they have to live in slums around cities, or even become homeless.
I have visited several relocation places in western China in the past three years! One in Tibet plateau, and one beside the desert in Gansu have impressed me deeply. They have school, hospital, police station, shops, sport field et al. , all the facilities for life are available. The local government also provide vocational skills training for free. Many local specialties are processed and sold, creating jobs and increasing income for those immigrant households
Yeah, although not been to one, I've seen many many relocation villages and towns as part of the poverty alleviation efforts on YT, they are amazingly beautiful and functional. I am very impressed too.

Unfortunately, it is 17k - 20k monthly for a smaller apartment in HK. HK gov shall work smarter and harder to catch up what China Gov offer to the people.
I feel for the renters in Hong Kong. Unfortunately there are way too many people (either owner occupiers or rich developers and property investors) in Hong Kong wanting the apartment prices to remain high or go up. There is nothing much the hk government can do, contrary to what the anti government people are saying, as it does not have the authority to force the market price down and there is not enough vacant land to be developed. Unless there is a big exodus of people or high mortgage rate comes back the property market will remain high, and rent will remain high too.
@@susanlv8540 as I understand in China the local authorities are actively assisting or pursuing homeless people to have a cover over their heads. It is the central government’s policy - to alleviate the destitute and also undeniably to portrait a good image for everyone to see. It is different in Hong Kong though. Rental is simply too high even with the government subsidy of close to $HK4000 a month for very poor families, and a lot less for a single homeless person. I also understand most of these homeless people are drug or gambling addicts and are caught in a vicious cycle. This problem is not as prevalent in mainland China.

When I was working in China during the late 1990s and early 2000s there were few homeless people but mostly in big cities not in small towns. They would appear late at night and they would take shelter at 24hr cafes. You can even buy stuff from a vendor at the flea market using just your smartphone! China has more people using digital pay than any country in the world.

We Asian are the most racist people. Don't complain white people being racist. Here in the US, Asian are the worst

Wages too low for the high rents. Under Reagan they closed the mental hospitals.

Chinese people are worshiping money too, but in the Chinese culture you have a strong sense of collectivism whereas in Western culture the sense of individualism is given priority to (hence the priority given to human rights and freedom of speech as compared to alleviation of poverty or protection of minorities)
In this video, you were the only one that looked timeless. It was awesome.

It's all about a more equitable distribution of a nation's wealth. Only a good and strong govt can do it.
财富不能集中在少数人手里。
Wealth cannot be concentrated in the hands of a few people.

NAMASTE FROM NEPAL. WE LOVE CHINA.
WAITING FOR CHINA TO BRING A RAILWAY INTO MY COUNTRY NEPAL.
NAMASTE AND LOVE

You've been around in China! And I bet u must have enjoyed the amazing scenery in Yangshuo!
Indeed the last time I saw a beggar in China was in 2001, at a bridge in Beijing.
Since then, much has changed and social reforms and economic development has delivered many from poverty.
There are definitely still poor people to be sure, but they do not meet the level of destitution and death that poor Americans face.
An they think they're better than the Chinese US evil Zionist regime is a joke
China doesn't have that many jobs they use slave labor
Jason, have you ever considered visiting Yunnan Pu'er? It's a wonderful place to explore!
